i have only ever had bugs in new vegas....
And seeing as that wasn't made by Bethesda (made by Obsidian), I think their reputation is still pretty good.

I for one never encountered any major bugs in Oblivion. AI glitches, sure, but what game doesn't have crappy AI?

I've lost faith in Bethesda making a stable game. I would love to prove my distaste for releasing extremely buggy games by boycotting them...but their games are too good that I'll just complain and give them my money when Skyrim is released.

Even so, supporting a developer who releases such 'buggy' games sends a terrible message as to what is considered acceptable to consumers.

I don't think how buggy the game will matter, but they are using a new engine so it may not be buggy at all or it will be buggy but still so new I won't stop playing.

Also your poll is really unbalanced I don't see any option that says the game will be okay. (because if the game was programed by sheragorath, doesn't that means i'd be really buggy?)

Like all Bethseda games I play, it'll probably crash a lot because I got a ton of mods for it, and a few probably aren't fully compatible.

Minor problems like omnipotent guards can probably be expected though. And horses that report crimes :\

FUS ROH D-

.....

RUNTIME ERROR

But, no, I'm going to be upgrading my hardware specifically to run the game. Or, I'll get it for one of my consoles... probably not.

Bethesda and Obsidian are like identical twins when it comes to bugs and glitches. They both are fucking terrible at finding and fixing shit the community fixes in 10 days after release. At the very least, Obsidian has good RPG elements and writing to offset the bugs and glitches. With Bethesda games, the most roleplaying I get is whether I kill a guy with a bow, a sword, or a lightning bolt.

I thought Ocam's razor was an Oblivion weapon... Or was it Mehrune's razor? I don't know, damn you DLC-less PS3 version.
Occam's Razor [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Occam%27s_Razor] is a unique combat knife in FO3 its not very good actually i just like it bacause it has a cool name

Morrowind only ever gave me problems when I installed graphics mods. Otherwise unblemished performance.
Oblivion on 360 had a couple AI glitches, but nothing game-breaking.
Fallout 3 on 360 was damn near perfectly well behaved.
New Vegas on PC was fucking atrocious.

The pattern seems to point to Bethesda not being as bad as I hear it is.

firstly u should research what your talking about because skyrim is using an all new engine called the 'creation' engine. secondly the only game that ive had problems with from them was new vegas and i blame obsidian for that.

Dear sir or madam, your pole is hypocritically one sided, I fail to see the point of collecting opinions if you only want them to reinforce your own.

I was under the impression that Skyrim will feature no psychic guards and be built on an entirely different engine. As for your other complaints, I myself experienced no such things in my unaltered playing of these titles. The lauded bugs were rare and the primary quest chain went fine(It wasn't very good, but it worked).

I played all of these games on the consoles and never had any problems, I played them on my PC and set the graphics as recommended and never had any problems.

The poll options suck. Why can't I vote for an all around stable engine?

1. The Creation engine is indeed based off the GameBryo engine. While certainly heavily modified in order to finally have things that are usually standard graphical tricks like shadows and half-way decent animations and textures, it still has that some of that same code we all have come to love.
2. Bethesda was the one who handled the Fallout: New Vegas bugtesting and patching, as confirmed by their lead developer here. [http://www.formspring.me/JESawyer/q/189616367522055108]
Q: Hello Josh. What's the process of making a patch of FNV? Does Obsidian QA team test a new patch first and then send it to Bethesda for further testing, or Bethesda does the most of testing?
A: Our internal testing team is very small and typically consists of 2 to 4 people. They do test specific things, but they are not responsible for the majority of testing. As with the core F:NV product, Bethesda handles most of the QA for updates and DLCs. Microsoft and Sony are responsible for certification.

I said it was programmed by Sheogorath because I want everything to be made of cheese. Scrap that, no cheese. That can be a celebration too, if you don't like cheese. No cheese for you.

Anyone who is familiar with the works of Bethesda should know by know just how unstable their products have been. Considering that each new game is built upon the reconditioned engine of the previous title, it wouldn't be too far of a stretch to think that Skyrim will be as bad (maybe worse) in the terms of stability.

Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas all built off slightly altered versions of the same engine. Since Skyrim is using a further modification of the Gamebryo engine, its a safe bet it will have it's fair share of problems come launch day.
RTFM, Bethesda dropped Gamebryo for Skyrim; they are now using the Creation Engine.

Its especially fun when you know what Occams Razor actually means. ie: the simplest possible explanation is preferable.

to me, oblivion had fewer bugs than morrowind, so i'm not that concerned

and none of the morrowind bugs i noticed were THAT bad... the occasional program crash and the fact that when i used cheats, it set the base sale value for every potion i made at about 5,000, so i couldn't sell them to anyone
