Oh dear lord.. It's just like the regular fucking flu. Sit down, have a glass of hot tea with honey in it, watch some cartoons, and you'll be fine...

To be honest I thought the Swine Flu was old news, and yet people are still crapping their pants about it.

Also, you're poll is ridiculous.. It goes from one extreme to the other. From pathogenically paranoid, to conspiracy theorist.

I think you all know where I stand on this subject...

It should have been just yes or no all that other stuff is stupid.

I'd say no. It's just another flu outbreak. My college and other colleges have been on high alert though. Since we live in dorms, flus spread quickly, thats the only reason they worry.

The options are too extreme. Yes Swine flu is bullshit, totally blow out of proportion by the media, and no I do not have a gun for them to take away.

It's all hype, 3 kids in my school just came back from being sick with it and they said it was just like the normal flu. You are more likely to die from your toaster haywiring than from swine flu.

My father in law caught it, as a man who almost dies from a cold every time he gets one he still managed to survive the swine flu. Don't get me wrong, he almost succumbed to it, and without Tamiflu he may not have, but he did, and he's a man with as weak an immune system as it comes.

I don't worry about it. Just wash your hands before you eat meals and you'll be fine.

Oh and this thread has been done before a million times. Well, not a million, but at least ten.

Just a short thread/question. Based on what you know, do you think that swine flu is really something to be worried about? I've heard from a couple of people that it isn't very different that the better-known flu. I've had swine flu, and while it wasn't "fun" it wasn't really all that bad. I just think it propaganda, and is meant to scare people. I think it's just a scam like global-warming, and is meant to be profited from.

So what do you, the escapists, have to say about it?
I wouldnt call it propoganda considering that is real, my cousin had its and she said its wastn all that bad, same as the regular flu in her case. The issues is that theyre afried its may mutate and actully cause some real troubel for the population. Becuase its not seasonal its basiclly has the whole year the cross exchange genes mutiply and muate, and and ther is the chance that the virus coudl gain and immunity to the vaccine.

For right now I belive that its simply over palyed, but people worreis are grounded (or atleast bassed) in reality.

Here in Beijing they've been a lot more vigilant about it than in the US, which I suppose makes sense given East Asia's recent history with the flue and other assorted tasty contagions. The government is taking a lot of measures to make sure that it doesn't enter the country, and I guess it's working. Besides everyone on my plane being checked before we left, I've pretty much gotten used to random quick temperature checks wherever I go, be it the gym, campus, etc. In the US I think it's pretty exaggerated, but I really can't say much about Beijing and China, because the health standards in a lot of areas here aren't exactly as strict as in the West.

It's harder on the very young and very old, most other people can bounce back from it unless they have some problems with colds/flu viruses.
My niece had it, she's 12 and really was just miserable for a week or so and has been fine ever since. I was around her for that entire week and didn't catch it, nor did my fiancee.

Media is turning it into a bigger scare than it should be.

Man, Swine Flu is going to wipe us all out (excluding Madagascar), just like Bird Flu did.
You didn't happen to play Pandemic II by any chance?

Swine Flu is just like the regular flu for the moment, but they fear it can evolve into a more potent and deadly virus if it mixes and evolves with another virus. The speed of the spread is why the WHO (World Health Organisation) listed it as a pandemic.

I have had a family member that had the Swine Flu. It's bad, but you're only likely to die if you have a pre-existing condition or are very young. People born before 1953 are likely to be immune to it as it is a modified strain of the flu from the pandemic of the 1950s.

I'm not sold on the notion that the flue is 'killer.'

Umm, Do you guys recall the Spanish flu in history? Its the same strain, N1H1. The problem is that with the abilty to spread so easily it means that it could easily mutate or pick up another protein that could make it even more fatal. With the spanish flu it started out EXACTLY like this. Came in the spring, well thats clearly odd for a flu...Then around flu season it hit people like a ton of bricks. Competely healthy adults where dropping in the street after getting the virus only hours earlier. We are learning about it in my microbiology class. The threat is there, we just need to see if the virus is going to take its chance to become something more.

It's pretty much real by now. Just thinking the government took opportunity of this swine flu paranoia to get people to buy meds and everything that has to do with staying healthy.
