Tank. Moving on.
Actually, that's a horrible idea. Read World War Z to find out why tanks are horrible anti-zombie weapons, and as a vehicle they suck too: they require loads of fuel, they're relatively slow, and if you run out of fuel you're sitting in a metal death trap. You can only leave the tank from a little hatch on top, and I don't think you want to open that if the tank is swarmed with zombies (and it will be). If you want to survive, for the love of the Lords of Kobol, do not get a tank.

Anything with fuel is a bad idea anyway, if you run out you're screwed, so I'll also go for bicycles and pedal powered carts for multiple people. They're also easier to maintain and easier to escape from (see tank example above), plus you'll get a work-out and that'll come in handy when you're fighting zombies.

The only motorised vehicle I could see working is a motorcycle, they're also relatively low maintenance and you could manage if you would plan your travels well enough to make sure you've got fuel.

Motorbikes are actually your best choice against fast zombies. They've got all (at least most) advantages of a regular bicycle, but they're a lot faster, which is something you need versus fast zombies.

Helicopters and planes are the worst-VERY little armour in most cases, virtually no room for supplies, and they are fuel hungry beasts.
What do you need armour for? You don't have to defend yourself against .50 cal rounds, just teeth and claws. If anything, armour makes you heavy and slow, the only fortification to a car I could recommend is lamination for the windows (on both sides, just in case) and proper sealing for the doors so they can't pry them open. But I wouldn't recommend a car anyway, you don't want to be stuck in a tin can when zombies swarm you.

Yeah.
Best thing is, you don't even have to have read the Zombie Survival Guide (I haven't yet, only World War Z) to get all this. It's common sense really, shame that common sense isn't so common.

I would almost say a bicycle. Bicycles are silent and can be pretty fast.

Only problem with bikes is that one couldn't carry much...
Yes! I was going to say the same thing, only when I tell people this they don't believe me.
Yeah, I mean it may not be super great for a long trip from the east coast to the west coast but it would be good for short trips. Plus it would force the individual to travel light.

I will walk. Sure, not fast, but unless zombies are of the runner kind (and we all die horribly in that scenario), i should be able to outwalk all of them.
Also, cant climb walls/cliffs with a car.

most definately an suv... it's big and reasonably durable so would be able to run over a few zombie and unlike something like a helicopter i can actually drive it....

A Boat, with sails or paddles.
Zombies can't attack you on water, you'll never run out of wind.
Maybe even the Bang-Boat... we need to reproduce after all.

Failing that, a hamster ball you can fit it, which can be locked from the inside, too hard to zombies to bash through, with hoes big enough to shoot poke spear through, but not big enough for zombies to get their hands through.

Armoured Personnel Carrier. Lots of space for supplies/people, can drive through/over small buildings, other vehicles, and of course zombies without much trouble. I think they might be comparatively fuel cheap for their size, too.

A good tractor could do the same job overall but without as much space for supplies.

Edit: I might add, gas shouldn't be a problem as a "long term" investment. Do you expect to keep pedalling on your bike for 30 years or something? The important thing is getting where you're going, not to run forever.

Talon Riot Control Vehicle. Electrified outer shell, bullet proof to survive AK47's, grenade launcher, sound system, enough room for the legendary bicycle and some seats. Also has a toilet onboard so you don't have to dump out of a window.. Features include a caged windscreen too, no zombies in that way and a lovely cow catcher to not catch not cows..

Please don't take offence this is just my personal opinion, but boat and helicopters are a bad idea, cant be bothered doing the rest of the vehicle types :p

First i will explain why the boat isn't a great idea.

Gasses build in a body if there is decomposition, making the body have buoyancy, in turn making floating zombies, also you have take into consideration the idea of not just you trying to flee a zombie apocalypse, others with similar mindsets would do the same, then is the problem of people turning while wearing life vests, more floating zombies, you also have to remember in most fiction zombies have a primitive ability to climb, anchors and other ways to get onto the deck make your boat not as safe as it should be.

THEN the major problem of survival, people are smart, maybe too smart, congregation on isolated areas such as low populated or non populated islands and lagoons will be a definite and also runs the risk of zombies, you also need a good amount of survival knowledge to know what is edible and what isn't, where you can camp out, what animals are near by etc, the last and most deadly thing about boats is if you know how to pilot one or not, remember vehicles aren't like in the movies you need to have some knowledge in boats to know how to drive one, and fuel consumption and replenishment is a problem, same could be said about helicopters.

Now for the helicopters, The make a lot of noise, they use a lot of fuel and you need a lot of training to pilot one, its easy saying "yeh I'll get a chopper and fly away land when i need to" you have to think about constant instrument observation, set a course, make sure you have the right amount of fuel, know every safe area from the zombies, know every small airstrip to refuel, then is the matter of most helipads and airstrips being in built-up areas, the middle of airports or even in the country, all 3 as deadly as the last.

Metropolis: Large concentrations of zombies, hardly any refuel points, more chance of being surrounded

Airports: Large congregation point, a lot of zed's or military, most likely get shot down or surrounded again.

Country side: best choice, but most of these small isolated airstrips are unprotected with fences, refuelling is normally easier but more dangerous.

There is a lot more types of landing zones I haven't mentioned and a lot more random things that could go wrong, personally I would rather take my chances on foot, when you think about the congestion on water and in the air when and if this hit its not worth hitting another boat of crashing into another air vehicle, i know most of this is only fiction, but i hope this helps :p peace :D

<3 =Fletchy=

P.S. Dosent a Moped with a chainsaw on the end sound ideal? XD
