Tau.
They are what got me started.
Same. The Tau just have an aura of coolness around them, and Space Marines, while cool, are dramatically overused and GW seems a bit biased towards every race that isn't Space Marines. So I pick Tau because they manage not to be Imperial in any way, and because I love firing into melee. Second would be IG, though. I like math a lot, so they're the logical choice, because you're just working with numbers.

Tau are awesome. Even though they suck at close combat, they make up in sheer firepower. I remeber in SS I had 5(The max for the air units for tau) Baracudas(SP?)and destroy a baneblade pretty fast. Im not 100% sure, but I think they computer had like 2 more(playing against 3 IG on Hard) I might have killed all 3 before their soliders brought me down. But it was awesome, though we lost that game.
Try DC, I've said it before, but I liked it ten times better than SS.

I say the Space marines. In DoW they're the most adaptable army, so no matter what situation you put them in they'll have a way out of it. They have the ultimate uber-killer squad (assault terminators), and they're the only army that can drop a whole battle force smack dab into your base without them needing a building in it.
In later games they aren't the only ones, however. Eldar can send their army right into your base with one building, that can be invisible, that only costs 100 req. Tau can have an army in your base before you knew you were playing against them (Devilfish, Stealthsuits, and Fire Warriors behind or in the Devilfish.). Lastly, Orks have an army wherever they go, so that's another exception.
