Ok, let's see if I can do this without stepping on any toes...

I'm against cruelty to animals, completely. I think it's wrong, and deplorable. There truly is something innate inside me that saddens me when I hear, see, or think about someone abusing an animal for the sake of some deluded sense of self satisfaction.

I think killing animals purely for the sake of sport is wasteful. You're taking a creature from this planet for your own enjoyment, while forsaking the creature you killed, as well as the habitat and ecosystem it belongs to. Our species has been directly responsible for the extinction of many species, and that is truly one of the biggest blemishes on humanity's record.

I am not a vegetarian. I think that in eating meat, we've at least given these animals a purpose. And while I'm sure there are many to say "who are we to decide whether any creature lives or dies," the fact is, that we do. And, we aren't the only species in the world to do it. As a matter of fact, there are species in nature who survive solely on the meat of other creatures. They are called carnivores.

I believe that if a person decides to adopt a domesticated animal (namely dogs, cats, and animals of that nature), then that person has a responsibility to respect the life of that animal, and take care of it to the best of their abilities. Pets aren't decorations, they are responsibilities and in many cases, companions.

Hmmm...I think that about covers it.

I'd say a bit of both, I don 't mind animals being used for something that makes sense, but unnecessary cruelty is just plain wrong.

I do like my meat, do I have to see it boiled/skinned/bleed out etc. alive to show me how fresh or clean it is or to make it's meat very tender? Certainly not
Do I see the sense in using them to test new medicine or operating procedures? Yes absolutely
Any sense in them sufferering to test the newest useless make up line? Absolutely not

I believe that animals should always be treated with respect and kindness. All animals. Even the ones that scare the women in your life.

However, I've got nothing against eating meat, as long as the death of the animal is quick and painless and the animal is honored by the use of every part of its body.

I believe that animals deserve humane treatment as living beings, and I also believe that meat tastes good, fur looks cool, and PETA is among the dumbest organizations on the planet.

Animals are great--I love 'em. I've had pets all my life and I love my dog almost like a brother. But one must never forget that Human lives are more important than animal lives.

Would I swerve to avoid hitting a small animal on the road? Only if I was reasonably certain that such an action would not put myself or any other human in danger.

I don't know. I believe in making the planet nicer through vegetarianism, so that makes me a stinking hippy who's opinion is instantly void.

Um..People who torture animals should be tortured back?Or something along those lines.

All for it. But... (This gets me in trouble with my girlfriend a lot)

Animal testing: Good

As for issues about overfishing and hunting it is very hard to circumvent when the people doing it don't care as such its hard to fix. I'm not so bothered personally.

Animal rights only exist when people are well off. Human welfare comes at the cost of animals. That's how it is currently, don't know how it'll be 200 years later. I think it is fully acceptable to make expendable animals if it means that non-expendable natural resources are saved by the process. Biodiversity is much more important to me than a few animals.

Also, I think I have the right to decide which non-wild animals I want to put on my plate if they're killed humanely, be it cows, dogs, cats, or horses. I'd rather eat a horse than a cow and bloody hell, I think I have the right to be offended when people tell me I'm horrible for not wanting to waste delicious herbivore meat by BURYING or CREMATING it when there are other similar animals being grown in hideous conditions to be in their place.

People should take care of animals and protect them from all the dangers we have created. People should ensure that the balance of creatures in the wild is maintained, and that as many species as possible are preserved.

Eating animals isn't wrong, death is already a fact of life and animals can be killed humanely. Life kills for the continuation of life, but cruelty can't be justified.

Well, it depends.
I'm generally against animal cruelty, but I reckon eating meat is perfectly okay.
I mean, as long as they're not being horribly mistreated before they're brutally slaughtered so I can eat them, I don't see where the problem is.[/quote="

I love meat, but love animals too.....but I do think its right that humans eat other animals

I'm mostly for animal rights, except for the animals we eat. Let's face it, poultry, bovines, and other game animals, are going to be killed for our consumption. There's nothing wrong with that. What is a problem however, are other animals. I don't see the point in hunting bear, i don't see the point in the mass hunting of whale, or the violence against shark and tigers. What purpose does the violence against these creatures serve except for somebody to say, "yeah, i killed that", and while the chinese maintain that there are medicinal purposes for the various things that they harvest from the dead tigers, there has never been any evidence of tiger anything curing anything. Pointless violence towards animals is terribly sad, and on the realistic side of things, severely harms ecosystems should the animals go extinct.

as long as you let me eat whatever i want then you can treat animals like they're worth more than you.
this. animals should be treated well, but not at the expense of meals to people. IF the species is going extinct then move the food source to another animal.
If the species is tasty or valuable enough, people will domesticate it and raise enough to keep it off the endangered species list. That's what happened with the buffalo.

Pretty weak poll. You could be of the believe that humans are scum and that we should dedicate our lives to serving animals or you could just wish for animals to be treated more fairly and yet you are in the same category.

Similarly you could think we treat animals fine as it is and your in the same category as some heartless tyrant who believes animals should be wiped out to make more room for humans.

Animals should have the following rights:

1. To not be treated with cruelty or contempt by other humans.
2. To either be fed to an appropriate degree or left to fend for themselves in their own natural habitat.

errr yeah thats about it. If you have pets look after them, if you don't then just leave them alone and let them get on with their lives.

Humans are animals too, so they also deserve those two rights as a bare minimum.

One day when we have Star Trek like replicators then we can do away with the whole nasty business of killing animals for food as well. Hopefully in my lifetime we can make testing on animals redundant as well as we should hopefully have the technology to do it without them much more effectively.

I don't like talking about animals rights, shouldn't have to, people should know to treat animals right. But some people are ****.

I think it is moronic, what possible use for human rights is something stupid enough to willingly eat its own crap going to have?

What is your stance on it?
I think you're a bit confused about what animal rights are.
Animal rights are about giving animals the same legal rights as humans, what you are describing is animal welfare.
I do support animal welfare, I think that all animals should be able to have all of the five freedoms (freedom from hunger and thirst, discomfort, pain injury and disease, fear and distress, and the freedom to express natural behaviour). However I'm in a grey area with animal rights, as this is the belief that they should be not be used as clothing and entertainment (this is where I agree with animal rights), and as food and research subjects (this is where I do not agree).
