Ok, let's see if I can do this without stepping on any toes...
I'm against cruelty to animals, completely. I think it's wrong, and deplorable. There truly is something innate inside me that saddens me when I hear, see, or think about someone abusing an animal for the sake of some deluded sense of self satisfaction.
I think killing animals purely for the sake of sport is wasteful. You're taking a creature from this planet for your own enjoyment, while forsaking the creature you killed, as well as the habitat and ecosystem it belongs to. Our species has been directly responsible for the extinction of many species, and that is truly one of the biggest blemishes on humanity's record.
I am not a vegetarian. I think that in eating meat, we've at least given these animals a purpose. And while I'm sure there are many to say "who are we to decide whether any creature lives or dies," the fact is, that we do. And, we aren't the only species in the world to do it. As a matter of fact, there are species in nature who survive solely on the meat of other creatures. They are called carnivores.
I believe that if a person decides to adopt a domesticated animal (namely dogs, cats, and animals of that nature), then that person has a responsibility to respect the life of that animal, and take care of it to the best of their abilities. Pets aren't decorations, they are responsibilities and in many cases, companions.
Hmmm...I think that about covers it.
