Buy a PS3 now, xbox next year when they release their new one and get a wii in 2011 hopefully with HD.

Or a PC if you have lots of cash.

Speaking as someone who owns a PS3, Wii and Xbox 360; get a 360. You can buy Live for 30 quid a year instead of 60 if you go to play.com, and the online system is far better and the RRoD problem was fixed long ago, for anyone who still uses that as an argument.

Gonna need one of these...

I'd say PS3 if you can afford it, as it has free online, good exclusives and a rather comfortable controller.

360 hands down. I own all three, and I can say without a doubt that the 360 is the best. Not only is it cheaper, it has way more good games than either the wii or ps3. Sure, LIVE does cost money, but it's totally worth it.
This. I completely agree because what I've seen is that PS3 exclusives are very much graphically orientated while PC and/or Xbox exclusives seem to be more gameplay orientated
I'm proud that this has not boiled down to a flame war

Thanks! and thats a bummer. Well considering the only thing I don't have is an xbox 360, i'd say get an xbox 360...My only reasoning is that pretty much everything else is collecting dust cept my ps3 which is dominantly just being used as a blu-ray player :s

Considering the "new" xbox for 2010 might be a rumour mixed up with the natal project, there might be no real point in waiting. Considering the recent price drop, wouldn't hurt to buy a 360 elite like I will be doing shortly.

I've had all three at one point and have to say i prefer the 360 because of XBL and a general preference for the games. Both PS3 and the 360 have their share of good games so it depend on your tastes. For the love of God don't get the Wii though. I sold it after maybe four months after no games actually came out on the thing.

EDIT: If you get the 360 make sure to get Xbox Live as it makes the console so much better.

If money isn't a problem (I'm guessing it's not, since you can afford any console), I'd always go for upgrading your PC.

If you must have a console, then the PS3 is my favourite. Reliable, free online play, very ergonomic and comfortable controllers, better exclusive games.
Unless the PS3 has some hit new game called "We don't have any exclusive games" I don't think they have any good unique franchises

Especially since Final Fantasy is now coming to 360 too

Go for 360, you get what you pay for, and xbox live is SO much better than PS3 online, with a PS3, you're mostly paying for a Blu-Ray player that you'll probably never use, with the 360, you're actually paying for a GAME console, a damn good one at that
A damn good console that bricks itself half the time?
Also, you get what you pay for... doesn't the 360 cost less than the PS3? That's like openly admitting it's inferior.
Exclusives for the PS3 (just to name the really popular ones or the ones I really like)
Demon's Souls, FF Vs XIII, God of War, Gran Turismo, Heavy Rain, Heavenly Sword, inFamous, LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid, Motorstorm, Ninja Gaiden, Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, Siren, Uncharted, Valkyria Chronicles, etc. versus, what, Gears of War and Halo? Both of those games are so derivative that I might as well play Doom.
When I say you get what you pay for, I don't mean which has a higher price, I literally mean you are getting WHAT YOU ARE PAYING FOR. In the 360, you pay for it to play games, and a little bit of that purchase price goes to its ability to play DVDs. For a PS3, you pay significantly less for its gaming abilities, because you are shelling out most of its huge price tag for its ability to play Blu-Ray movies that almost nobody buys.

Also, the fact that the 360 bricks itself so much and is still so popular, attests to its extreme quality of gaming entertainment, if you take care of a 360 properly, you can lower its failure rate by leaps and bounds, for instance, most people place it vertically, that is bad for it, place it on its side and it will be much more reliable (due to cooling/ stability problems when placed vertically)

Not to mention, PS3 online is free, but it sucks, xbox live is amazing, and there is a reason PS3 is copying its achievement system with "trophies" and most exclusive DLC is for xbox live (Fallout 3 (not totally exlusive, but delayed for PS3), GTA4, the list goes on and on and on)its because xbox live is MUCH BETTER, and with this generation putting a major emphasis on online gaming, the 360 takes home the gold

EDIT: Left 4 Dead alone is enough to put xbox 360 ahead of the PS3 despite all of those titles you mentioned, but there are a whole heap of exclusived out there, just do a google search "xbox 360 exclusive games" there are a huge number of them. Besides half of those games you mentioned are crappy action games anyway, PS3 has been trying to fill the gap from the decline of RPG's, they do it with action games, the 360 does it with FPS's. I love multiplayer play, and I would much rather play a good multiplayer FPS like Left 4 Dead.

Xbox 360 is the way to go this generation.

Xbox was the way to go the previous generation as well but I guess it was just too awesome for the general population to take in at once (seriously, compare Xbox and Playstation 2 online support).
Yeah, and then compare the game libraries. I think your fanboy denial is showing, because while PS3 vs 360 is still relatively debatable, PS2 vs Xbox is a hands down PS2 win in about 1900 ways, and no that is not debatable. I mean seriously "too awesome for the general population to take in at once?" Yeah, because obviously only a select few Xbox fanboys fans were able to see it right? Not the conceded masses making up the 150 million customers of PS2s, right?
You didn't address how AWESOME Playstation 2's online play was. It sucked, face it, this isn't even debateable. I use "suck" the past tense because VERY few online Playstation 2 games are still up, while nearly all of the Xbox games are still running. What good is a game if I can't play it?

The Xbox was superior in every way, there is nothing "fanboy" about it, the more shit something is the more money it will make (see also: Transformers 2).
Really? Name 5 good Xbox games, and I dare you not to use the word Halo. The console was carried by Halo and GoW, and any console that relies on 3 or 4 games is not "the best in every way". Yeah I guess it had online, but it was online for the same fucking 3 or 4 games. To be honest if I want to play online I use a PC. (Read: Mods, Mouse/Keyboard, vent, less 10 year olds...). Oh, and you don't need online to play a game FYI, not that you'd admit that of course since you're apparently a Microsoft fanboy (ironically you've probably crucified Sony before in posts criticizing their *free* online).

On the otherhand the Ps2 had TONS AND TONS of games, and many of them were actually good (not all FPS cutouts). And it still sells hundreds of thousands of consoles. Something that makes a lot of money is shit eh? Well I'd like to introduce you to my friend here -Xbox Live-, who must suck some serious ass huh?

I use to swear by the 360 up and down, but now that I bought a ps3 its a tough choice. I've owned a 360 for awhile, I'm more excited at the moment for the ps3 because of all the great exclusives I've passed up and get to play. For the value, the ps3 blows the 360 out of the water. Free online, built in wifi, rechargeable controller, and a blueray player. That said, 360 is still my primary console for multiplatform games because I like the controller better, XBL is a better service(you get what you pay for), and my friends own 360s.

I'm sure its been said many times by now, but find the exclusives you like more and buy based off that. They are GAMING machines, get the one that has the games you want.
