Taste.

Well most of the flavours you actually taste are down to smell anyway, taste only gives you sweet and sour and salty, etc.

So if you kept smell you'd still be able to taste things.

I see smell is the most popular choice. what most people don't realize is that taste is a by product of smell.
Without smell, you cannot taste.

The more you know...

Taste, as it is based solely on deriving pleasure from good food.

It's not like I go about licking puddles, you know.

taste. i need the ability to hear for music, sight and touch for gaming. that leaves taste and smell and as smell contributes to taste i don't think i would miss taste as long as i had smell.

Taste, i guess. I don't really eat much food or drink that much anyway, without taste it'd be even less 'cuz i wouædn't eat for pleasure's sake.

Reasons why i wouldn't wanna lose the other senses(In no particular order):
Hearing: The voice of the one i love would be a great loss as well as the fact that i wouldn't be able to listen to music anymore
Smell: The smell of the seasons and the lovely fregrance of my girlfriend's perfume >_>
Sight: If i couldn't see the face of my girlfriend i'd probably go crazy, and i love anime so i'd wanna watch that.
Touch: Because intimacy requires touch if you ask me, and pain is important no matter what others might say

I could go without hearing, it would give me excuses to ignore people, I know some sign language already and sight, smell, touch and taste (mmm...chocolate) are to important to me.

I went with taste after reading a few posts. The only reason taste would be necessary is to taste if the food is rotten or something, along with force us eat certain food in a way. I was hesitant between taste and smell. I got low smell capabilities, but I think I'd like to at least keep what I got, I can still smell smoke, propane (only for a short time naturally) so, still more useful, I think.

As for the others, I enjoy music too much and I determine where people are in a house by hearing them, so I would become even more paranoid and I don't want that. Touche, well, holding stuff and such, I mean, go to the dentist, have him/her numb your mouth, and you'll see it can be dangerous, you can rub it more then you should and hurt yourself, as well as motor memory for movement, probably have some touche in it. sight, well, I might be able to hear people, but I prefer to be as aware of my surroundings as I can, and there is gaming and other pleasure of life of course. But it's not like by reading replying to this we are going to lose the chosen sens is it? Hello you behind the monitor.

I wouldn't mind if I lost my sense to smell.

I wouldn't be able to smell smelly things!

I could stand to lose touch. It means my brain compensates anyway, I don't lose any huge practical function, and I don't feel pain.

Smell, seems to be the one least needed, along with taste, they're pretty connected as well, hence the lack of abillity to taste proberbly when you've got a cold or something, if you doubt me, hold your nose while tasting something and see for yourself.

Beeing blind sure would suck, i would hardly be able to do any of teh things i enjoy, this would be the worst of teh options for me
Beeing deaf would prolly come in second worst, cause it woudl be quite a handicap.
touch would prolly be middle wise, it wouldn't be as much a handicap as the above two, cause you'd still be able to do most of what you do now, but theres many things i would really miss, most of them regarding me and my girlfriend.
Taste and smell would hardly handicap me, it would just suck, so i'd go with one of those, and seeing hwo i always controll what i put in my mouth, but can't really controll how my surroudings smell, loosing smell would have some benefits along with teh disadvantages.

Besides, theres not 5 senses, theres a few more, can't remember all of them but sense of equilibrium (balance) thermo-sensitivity, pain (which should be different from touch sense, according to wikipedia) and i think theres 1 or 2 more, can't be botehred to look it up atm.

Who the hell wants to smell things anyway? I figure taste is one of those things I wouldn't miss until it's gone.
