This kind of thread is bound to spawn racist comments, people calling muslims terrorists which they are most certainly not.

Nice argument there. This reminds me of that thread about Israel where you willingly labeled yourself as an anti-Semite and in your next post denied being an anti-Semite. You get really confused when it comes to discussing anything related to Jews don't you?

And you have still yet to explain where you get the idea that "Judaism is based on an us vs. them mentality", and you have also failed to explain what country Jews are from, if "Jewish" is indeed a nationality as you say.

Your insane and contradictory comments are so predictable and inaccurate that it almost makes me wonder if you are taking pleasure in trolling me. I don't feel like arguing with you anymore. You can only toy with trolls for so long before it gets boring. I have math homework to do.

Can we all just agree tho, and I've made this point in a damn pile of religion threads...

The terrorism, the homophobia, the 'god hates fags' bunch, doesn't matter what religion you're talking about, people can choose to interpret the 'holy book' how they want, if you choose to use the religion you chose to be an asshole, I don't blame the religion, I guess I started out as a christian, (lapsed now), and I've never felt any need to kill a man who lies with another man, or a woman when she is having her 'unclean bleeding', yes, periods are a dirty dirty thing and the women should be outcast.

Or, you could take the basic ideas of good, and try living by those, about peace and loving everyone equally and helping the weak etc.

In short, if you're an asshole, its because..you're an asshole, not because God told you to be one.

Note I don't subscribe to any faith any more, but damn, people need to quit using it as an excuse to be a shit to others.

We need MORE people following religions for the good reasons, if a belief you have some magic reward when you die, is going to make you treat other people better, then go for it, I salute you.

I'm sure people have seen my own beliefs in other posts, from the outside they look dumb I'm sure, but there's no malice or way to abuse them.

Judaism is "based on" an us vs them mentality to the extent that in the bible almost every nation that the Jews come in contact with either wants to kill them or is occupying land that God has promised them and must be killed. However I think it's ludicrous to say that that is one of the founding tenets of Judaism as a religion.

No because
1: It is a religion which demeans and women and forces them into a submissive state
2: It is one of the three most backwards religions in the world (along side Christianity, and Judaism)
3: It demands the absolute abandonment of free will (like all religions)
4: Seems to have more fundamentalist extremists than most other religions

But this being said it is still your decision. Your faith is not for me to decide, and if believing this makes you happy or more fulfilled, do it.[/quote

1. That's not true women are made to cover up in Islam because of adultery. Meaning that in Islam they do not want any other man other than the womans husband to find her attractive.

2. How so?

3. Thats very far from the truth. The only part of free will that you abandon when becoming a muslim is the choice of sex before marriage. Yes there is the fact that you cannot eat meat but thats not strictly true. They can only eat meat that has been prepared in a certain way according to the Quaran and TBH it tastes the same as normal meat.

4. Hardly think of all the evangelicals they are right wing extremists and theres lots of them. Most muslims are normal people who are just following a religion just because that Religion is Islam doesn't mean they are all terrorists.

Because converting to a religion is false, you can't honestly just start believing something.
This guy has a point.

Altho if you really want to, and made your decision, then its Yes because... You want to.
So an extreme capitalist cannot suddenly become a communist because of some deep thinking or a life experience, for example? I mean I don't really see what keeps someone from suddenly finding something that makes them sure of the existence of a god.

Nice argument.

I really wonder why you bother posting when you almost always have absolutely nothing of importance to say.

I think the thing you're thinking of is an epiphany. they happen all the time. every single person who's given up a heavy addiction has had one. my girlfriend's epiphany to stop smoking came when her daughter was putting a cigarette into her baby's mouth and shouting "BLOW LACEY! BLOW!!". She quit that day, and never looked back.

If you honestly believe that Islam is the one truth, then you should follow it. If you don't believe it, then you shouldn't. It's as simple as that. Faith cannot be dictated by those around you, it is a matter of belief or disbelief.
^This
all too true. it's whatever makes YOU happy that counts

if you believe in god, and you don't become an extremist, go ahead, which religion you are makes no difference, but you have to learn farse. if you are an extremist in another religion then you can become an islamic extremist, if you aren't an extremist then become a normal muslim.

I'm not going to kill innocents, I'll be working with logistics but on the tank end of the deal or I might actually end up with helicopters,
just don't go lopping off heads with rusty machetes and I have no problems with you being Islamic, I only hate the extremists

No, because religion is never a good idea.
To put it in geeky terms, if philosophy was writing, then following a religion is compareable with writing crappy naruto fanfics.
Also, All things that chackle your brain, hinders you from experiencing new things and makes you live in fear are generally bad things.
Think for yourself instead.
