Probably wait for the Game of the Year Edition like with the other Bethesda RPG's.

It depends. I thought Oblivion was the least buggy out of all Bethesda's games. Fallout: New Vegas and Morrowind were horrendously buggy.

If I hear that Skyrim is buggy, I'll hold it off for a little bit until it gets fixed.

Oblivion was never unreasonably buggy for me, and I've put probably like 400 hours into that game over the years. New Vegas is Obsidian. And I kind of just breezed through the main story of Fallout 3 because I didn't care for that game, but I've forgotten about any bugs I may or may not have encountered.

I'll preorder it, as it is sure to be a game I'll play for years. The fact that the game won't be running on Gamebyro has me happy. Not that I hate the engine, but it's just all too familiar now.

Bugs are a fact of life. I shelved New Vegas for a few weeks to wait for a patch, but I'd put 85 hours into it beforehand, so I more than got my money's worth.

But it's not just Bethesda or Obsidian---Firaxis (Civ 5) and Paradox (Victoria 2) and Creative Assembly (Total War) and smaller studios like Gaming Minds (Patrician 4) all have the same "wait til 1.2" mentality that's been prevalent in PC gaming for at least a decade now.

But is that really a bad thing? Rome: Total War, the greatest game of all time (one man's opinion), didn't become that best-of-all-time game until 1.2. Tropico (another top-5 game of mine) needed seven patches and an expansion pack to become the great game it was. Fallout 3 needed five patches and a big DLC pack (Broken Steel) before it even cracked my Top 25 (and I have it at #3!)

And Oblivion needed a pair of major patches and a metric fuckton of mods before it became a great game...but it's still a GREAT game. I don't feel bad about having supported the developer by paying full price at launch. Those sales are what make publisher's decisions about whether we get sequels to the games we love.

If Bethesda apologizes/fixes FO:NV I'll buy a new copy of Skyrim, otherwise I'll get one from Gamestop.

I know just how deep Oblivion was, and it's pretty god damn shallow.
and so your blaming the console for this?

great conclusion. applause is highly induced right here.

oh but wait..

wait..wasn't morrowind on console too?

i guess that doesn't count, and neither do the other of hundreds of other rpg's that are made multi platformed or console exclusively and are also "deep" as you put.

So the question is whether I am going to purchase the sequel to my second favourite RPG of all time at launch? (first being KOTOR/ME2 joint)

Honestly, I really don't care what bugs it has. I bought & played fallout 3 and new vegas on launch day, didn't get many bugs, and didn't care at all about the ones I did get. Bethesda makes good yet buggy games, and since I don't give a crap about the bugs, I just see a great game.

I would if I did that sort of thing. I never buy games at launch, so no i won't. I am very excited for this game though.

If I have a good enough computer by then (I'll most likely need to get a new one), I will almost definitely get it at launch.

which showed me that there has not being ONE game in the whole series that Bethesda has made without a bug on launch day!!
If you want games without bugs you might as well take up boardgames because there's no such thing as bug free software.
That isn't true at all. That's just excuse making for Bethesda. I've played hundreds of games that were bug free. For the PC and every other system released that I owned. I've never played a Bethesda game that wasn't a bug filled mess however. No offense meant towards you, but your comment is very much untrue.

I'm going to wait on this one because I felt burnt by Oblivion. I didn't play Morrowind until after Tribunal was released, so it had some time to polish out its issues

On a related note, my friend sent me this...

If it's designed for consoles, the way oblivion was, I doubt I'll buy it on release. I will buy it but I'll wait a few weeks for modders to tweak the inventory and menu systems to a more intuitive system (I won't be buying it console, TES games have always had awesome mod communities, and I don't intend to miss out on that).

Though if it even remotely resembles Morrowind I'll likely be at the midnight release.

Oblivion was ported to the PC, where Morrowind was ported from the PC. That's a pretty substantial difference.

There were a lot of things that Morrowind did a lot better (and to fans of the series, these things were very significant), the obvious reason is because they were designed differently, for different demographics and systems. It is a bit of a stretch to say the relatively shallow world in Oblivion is because it was aimed at consoles, but then again, how much development effort went into making it port to the PS3? It's a very different system to both xbox and PC (TES 3 was only on PC and xbox, two systems that are very similar), perhaps the money used to develop that port was money that previously had been spent on world design.

Hell yes! I'm going to pre-order the collectors edition, go to the launch, and play it all night, as well as skip work the next day...

ah i see, well touche for clearing that up then, and while i respect that, and normally would have been about my merry way, i just ridiculously hate ignorant elitism for no reason, especially when it spawns out of nowhere on a thread.
