It depends who is invading. If they are worse than my government, then hell yes. If they are better, then I say welcome, and can I interest you in directions to the nuclear wessel?

I'll say it with the words of General George S. Patton:

Patton said:
The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his
In conclusion: I would fight for my country, yes, and die for it when my time has come.

I have a feeling that a lot of people are going to get banned after they make their posts on this forum.

I am also disappointed that the "No" answers outweigh the "Yes" ones, but oh well.

And, yes, I would die for my country (United States). A country is: the land and its citizens. This is possibly the most liberal definition of a country, and even if a country only amounted to those, I would gladly die for it.

I mean, you'd be pretty damn messed up if you weren't willing to die for at least one fellow citizen you cared about (unless you're an unaffectionate emo who sits weeping in a closet). Seriously. Don't you guys (or girls) have girl/boyfriends? Or spouses? Or brothers? Sisters? Parents? Sons? Daughters? Friends? If any these are your fellow citizens, wouldn't you die for them? And if you wouldn't, well...
It is just a bit sad, but what can you expect? And why do you think people will get banned?

That is probably one of the best speeches in a movie I have ever heard, damn I need to watch that again.

No. The United States is basically like my high school. I don't mind the place itself, don't really mind the people in charge (but I do tend to disagree with them), but I have an extreme hatred for 80%+ of the morons I'm stuck here with...

Nah, Denmark isn't worth my life. If we were attacked I would try to help (as much as little me would be able to) but I wouldn't sacrifice my life.

Or that of course.

I cannot remember the quote exactly, but it goes something like "The point of war is not to die for one's country, but to make the other guy die for his."

That's what I'd be aiming for.

I find the question too simple to be responsibly answered.

Would I put my life on the line for an adequately good cause? Sure. Nobody lives forever anyway, and if I end up spending my life on something far greater than I could have accomplished with that time, then it's the best legacy I can leave the world.

Would I enroll in a military whose conscripts lives are thrown away in unworthy causes whose main purpose is to serve the profiteers under the pretense of patriotism? Not if I can help it.

"For your country" is ambiguous in that it does not clearly establish the true scenario. World War II was a good war with a good cause. Many of the wars that have followed, however, smell strongly of the later scenario. Throughout history, in many cases, fools being duped to be pawns in the power struggles among the upper class have always been the true face of war. It's much harder to spill blood for truly good causes than it is bad causes pretending to be good causes.

I'd defend my family or friends if they were threatened, but if it was some war that doesn't affect me there's no way in hell I'm getting involved.

And where am I going to live instead, the moon?
Yes, and you will have a minimum of one wild sex orgy a day with the rest of the moon-beings.

I always wondered what the end of warfare would look like. Doubted it would be a billion chilled-out humanitarians sitting around in a circle singing Let It Be.

I think this thread is a fairly good example of what it'd really be like.

It's bunch of cynical-before-their-time individualists proclaiming their own self-worth and importance above that of the collective; neatly rationalized through convenient exploitation of the inherent flaws and complications of a complex system and sustained through the willful misreading (or outright dismissal) of the actual meaning of what it is to be united under the banner of a nation.

Sheesh. I'll take over-enthusiasatic nationalism any day. It may not be pretty all of the time (though it certainly can be), but at least the participants don't put Nietzsche's Last Man to shame.

America hating Socialist! Quick, everyone hide your grandparents!

Seriously though, this. It would vary widely on circumstance, as it stands now I will not serve a military force that won't accept me as is. I would also like to believe that I think for myself enough to fight for my own ideals, and not just blindly follow the ideals of my countrymen.

For England! No. For Ireland, Italy, Canada and Russia, yes! Never been there, but they seem fun!
