I find Bayonetta herself rather unsavory because I dislike spectacle fighter games, and sexual violence of any kind, even if it is in jest, makes me uncomfortable. A male version would probably be the same to me.

Thank you for posting that. I wasn't sure if I would find an excessively sexualized male version of Bayonetta quite as hilarious as I find the excessive sexualization of regular Bayonetta, but now I'm fairly certain I would.

On topic, no. I would find it kind of hilarious and now wish they would make some DLC to play through the game as a male Bayonetta, but change NOTHING else. Change the costume as appropriate, and re-record with a sexily voiced male VA, but otherwise nothing else changes. Same animations, same character interactions etc. It'd be a thing of beauty.

I approve immensely.

I may be a bit biased, being gay, but I am perfectly fine with this.

I'll admit, that pic of Big Boss in Quiet's outfit just made me laugh.

However, having seen some people do genderflip art of Bayonetta (I guess you'd just call him Bayonet?), I'm not uncomfortable with the concept. Some of it makes me laugh, like a Bruce Timm-style male Bayonetta with a giant macho physique, but nothing that makes me feel uncomfortable about the concept. I do, however, find that the outfit still ends up looking rather silly no matter who you put it on.

A male Bayonetta wouldn't make me uncomfortable.

But for the record, Dante only half counts. It's not like his move set is sexual, or his clothing continually disappears mid battle. He just has a few cut scenes where he shows some skin.

In comparing Dante to Bayonetta... Only half of it is the pure physical stuff. The rest is innuendo. A lot of innuendo. And like subtle suggestive actions.

For classic Dante, his initial interaction with Trish had that in the first game. Couple more mixed in.
DMC 3? The way he treated Lady throughout. Especially after the fight with her where he seems to corner her against a wall and leans in like he might kiss her. And before her the fight that was basically against a vampire succubus. There's even an attack she does if you let her where she kisses Dante and takes his health away.

Then we have DMC 4. Which really poured it on. But the most memorable is the giant frog like demon that uses lures in the appearance of glowing naked women. Like those fish that live in the darkest part of ocean. Dante clearly knew the women weren't real. But he was all up in their space. Practically groping and letting himself be groped too.

And of course there's the new Dante in DMC: DMC. Even ignoring the intro sequence, he was suggestive with Kat and even Mundus' whore lady. Mostly in the language.

Bayonetta had a lot of suggestive moments in the game that didn't necessarily have to do with her showing any skin. Her lollipop. The first time she gets her gun scene. Her own little cutscene where it looks like she's about to kiss that guy when she was really just getting herself and him out of the way of a hostile attack. And let's be honest, the woman is a total teasing flirt. Just like Dante.

No. Mainly because I don't give a shit about the gender or sexual orientation of the main characters in the games I play. I do give a shit if the acting and writing is bad. That would at most bore me and make me regret my purchase, but uncomfortable? No.

Yes... But I find all overt sexuality uncomfortable so it hardly matters. :)
This. I find Bayonetta uncomfortable, I find Mount Your Friends uncomfortable, I find Catherine to be uncomfortable, etc. I don't like sexual overtones, period.

No it would be silly because there is no Male Bayonetta. Might as well call her a Female Dante.

The guys from Platinum sexualize everything, male and female alike. and do so pretty much equally. Whoever their main character in an action game is, they're gonna be proud of their sexuality

The very first scene of Devil May Cry 3 is Dante coming out of a shower, Shirtless and damp. He spends the entire first mission like this and only ever puts on a coat, never a shirt. Does sexy poses, has an attack that uses a stripper pole. And if it was on next gen would have been more detailed.

This isn't something new to them and isn't something they did with Beyonetta because she was female. They did it because she was the main character.

Wow, okay, Snake in pantyhose. What a way to start the day.

You mean Raiden? Because he's just as acrobatic and sexualized.
Yeah, he came to mind too. A level with a guy that's naked covering himself with one hand...

I believe I would spend the whole time absolutely laughing my ass off. which is to say the exact same response I have to regular Bayonetta.

See also the Dante already existing thing.

Uncomfortable? No.

Not as fun for me? Yes.

Crazily enough, as a heterosexual guy, I'd rather see (almost) naked women than (almost) naked men (nuts, I know).

That being said, considering Bayonetta is so hyper-sexualized it's almost a parody, it WOULD be kind of funny to have a game where the male character, every level, is in some new stereotypical male stripper outfit for basically no reason. So he's dressed like a firefighter in one level, a cop in another, a cowboy in the next one, etc.

I love JoJo so.....

Also I don't think "Guy in Women's Clothing" is what a male Bayonetta would be.

Now that gender-changed Male Bayonetta posted earlier? Holy shit that would be amazing. I'd play that.

Of course, a guy going around making a bunch of male innuendo jokes would probably be labeled sexist too...soo...

I really have to stress this point. How do people not find Bayonetta hideous as is? She's got to be one of the ugliest characters I have ever seen due to her ridiculous inhuman proportions and her old aunt with doily clothing look.

I mean, I find her uncomfortable because she's nestled at the bottom of my uncanney valley (no innuendo intended), not because she's sexualized or some such nonsense but because she looks like a glitch or mistake.

Except... that this whole concept is really just Kratos. I mean, he even literally wears less clothing than Bayonetta usually does (well... if her "hair" counts as clothing... w/e).

And I don't think it's fair if an example includes a man wearing what appears to be women's clothes. That's really not the same concept. The same concept might be a woman wearing skimpy male clothing. Which... ironically, would probably involve her wearing even less.

Men in games have quite commonly worn very very revealing clothing throughout all of gaming, Ax Battler for instance:
http://www.gameit.es/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Personajes-originales-de-Golden-Axe.jpg
(Also note the poor objectified woman actually wearing more clothing than the man who managed to find a cave full of anabolic steroids in a fantasy world.)

I think the people who ask these questions are either being disingenuous, are very ignorant of gaming, or have very bad memories.

And besides about that picture of Snake... FFS, Snake has always worn unnecessarily skin-tight clothing to show off his shiny, firm, round ass for some reason. Are people literally blind and unable to see things that take place in front of their eyes? >__>

Only if a woman wore such clothes would there be controversy.
