The DSI does not have any features that interest me. I don't give a damn about cameras and slightly larger screens.
If the xbox portable thingy ever comes out, I'll approach with caution. I'll wait at least a year after launch to make sure there aren't report of their RROD equivalent causing the system to explode in gamer's hands.

Yeah im very hesitant about getting any MS products again. I said id never get one again after the original xbox, just sick of the consoles reliability and poor quality of its hardware compared to the market.

It might be cool to have one for the first few weeks after its out but the DS will still kill it. Face it Nintendo make some really great handheld games.

xBox handheld.
They could really tap into that potential, providing they set it at a low enough price, and made the games fun.
DSi is just a rehash of the DS Lite- only with a camera (WTF???) larger screens, and no backwards compatibility.
Honestly, I would've liked to have seen Nintendo make the backwards compatibility available to all gameboy games- not just Advance games.
Ah well.

Xbox handheld, because I already have a bloody DS, I'm not wasting money on a DSi when they've added next to nothing =/
Next to nothing, eh?

- The ARM9 CPU has been clocked up from 67 MHz to 133 MHz. (+50%)
- From 4 MB RAM to 16 MB. (+300%)
- From 256 kB to 256 MB of built-in storage for downloads and such.
- SD-card expansion slot for music and downloads.
- Firmware updatability and improved wireless communication.
- DSiWare / Virtual Console
- Camera for both taking photos and using in games.
- AAC music player and Photo Channel
- Records and saves audio notes

Oh, and larger screens too.

Sorry, Nintendo wins this one. IF anything they KNOW howto make a tough handlheld with decent battery life. Microsoft can write software, but suck on the hardware. 360 red ring of death, anyone? TO clarify: they make clunky heavy machines that break easily. But when it runs, WOW!

For hand helds, I don't want wow. I want decent that is portable and doesn't need a battery every 5 seconds.

In terms of what I want to use my DS for, yes, next to nothing. I play games on it. It's has never lagged on me, so the RAM and CPU increase doesn't matter for me, I'd rather keep my gameboy slot than an SD slot, I have an iPod for music aaand the camera is horrid. I'm talking 0.6 megapixels?
All the stuff they've added is nice, but it's mostly gimmicks; This is a console for portable gaming, I don't need any of the additions.

That being said, I wouldn't buy an Xbox hand-held. I just said I'd prefer it to the region-locked DSi.

Judging by the curent Xbox, the handheld will weigh several tons, crash whenever it's exposed to air, and grind your discs up unless it's held at pecisely 34 degrees from the normal. Microsoft are sticklers for repetition.

Hang on, since when have Microsoft made handhold consoles?

I know of a few games that have experienced framerate-drops, such as Crystal Chronicles. The CPU and RAM aren't meant for that, though, but for future DSi-exlusive games.

I haven't played a GBA game in ages, personally. I had an M3 flash cart sitting in the GBA slot for about a year, but nowadays I don't bother with that either. And if I end up wanting to play GBA games at some point, I'll just dust off my old DS. And without an SD-slot, the internal storage (which you forgot to comment on) would fill up with DSiWare and such very quickly.

Does your iPod record audio notes, and is your camera compatible with your DS games, or allow for sharing online without having to connect it to a PC? The camera isn't meant for photography, but for fun.

There's been some rumor whether Microsoft is developing an Xbox handheld or not. And Nintendo is for certain developing a DSi.

Which of these would you like to buy?
I didn't vote. because....well i just don't care. I have a DS and a PSP and that's good enough for me.

But the rumor of the Xbox handheld has been around for years. Back before the 360 there were rumors but none of them paned out. Speculations were the Zune was going to be it before they made an official announcement about it being an "iPod killer"
But with the embarrassment that is the Zune. M-soft should probably stay out of the handheld market. Nintendo has that on lockdown

I still play GBA games; Mainly my pokemanz and FF:TA. I didn't comment on the internal storage because I, again, have no use for it. I'm not the kind to download demos, or little games. As for audio-notes... I just would never do that. I wouldn't have my DS around when something I want to note down shows up in my head, so I'll just scribble it on my arm. It's normal for me.

And I'm far too much of a photography elitist to be able to take photos for fun. Simply barbaric, really. Lowering photography to that?

... And DSi software will be region-locked. This is very bad for me; Video game stores in Australia often buy hand-held games from all over, which gives us a good range. This range will be severely reduced with the region-locking.

Although, I guess one way the DSi won't affect me is in regards to piracy of DS games; I don't do it. I like swapping cartridges~

I got tired of my Pokémon Emerald, personally. Managed to sell it for more than I spent on it to begin with, though.

Well, there's some good stuff coming out for DSiWare, and eventually we'll be seeing old GB/GBC games on it too. And knowing how things went with the Wii, I suppose we can expect GameGear and WonderSwan to join the roster.

Heh. Well, as another "for fun" thing, the DSi can mix your audio clips into whatever songs you have it loaded with, among other things.

I lol'd.

Well, with the region-locking it's really a question of "no DSi games" or "Euro/Aussie DSi games", so it's not much of an argument.

But, yeah, being a gamer in Australia seems like a bother. I just now ordered a copy of "Warhammer: Mark of Chaos Gold" for an Australian friend, since he can't find it there.

I used my cart mostly for emulation, movies, music and occasionally a try-before-I-buy. And I loaded it with all the GBA games I own, so I wouldn't have to carry them with me.

REALLY BIG POST
See, now I think you understand my point a little.
I don't dislike the DSi, and I don't think it's a crappy idea, I just... don't want it?
At least, judging from your language you seem to get it =P
I may get one once it gets nice and cheap (I moved from my DS to my DS Lite because my girlfriend got it for me for Christmas) But until then, I'll just keep playing Pokemon, TWEWY, and when it comes out Disgaea for DS. And Valkyrie Chronicles for the DS. And pretty much any Squeenix DS games. Say what you will about Square Enix, but they make damn good time-sinks.

Rite-rite.

Really, I have no problem seeing why these features wouldn't be very important to someone, but I despise when people in general say things that simply aren't true because they haven't done their homework. Not saying you didn't know about the features I listed, but some people think the camera, the SD-slot and the lack of GBA-compatibility is all that's changed.

Don't I know it...

Oh no, I knew all the new features. I just dismissed them when I first posted because I didn't think they were that important (for me) and I was very tired. It's amazing the stuff you know when you're dating a video-game-store employee, and are friends with a couple of others =P

Oh god, FFXI... I wish I could still play. I put over 16 days into that game in a little over half a year...
