Halo: Reach: Solid game, almost nostalgic of they good ol' 2001 classic shooter. Almost.

Close second is Red Dead Redemption. Not had a good cow boy game in a while, brilliant story, and gun play was fun.

-My GOTY would be Fallout: NV, but they havent fixed the random crashes from Fallout 3, Goodbye 2 hours of walking.
-Dont have ME2 and hated the first one anyway.
-Dead Rising 2: Meh, time sync, nothing more or less.
-Enslaved looks good, not bought it though.
-Minecraft: Lol
-Civ 5: Wha???

Transformers: War for Cybertron. Although, I expect Fable 3 to contend that, but I cannot say for sure it will take the title because alas, I havn't played it yet.

Also, OP, your poll options make me feel like my opinion doesn't matter, because I do not consider any of the games listed in the poll to be my favourite release of 2010. No offense, just sayin'. (my opinion doesn't matter anyway :p)
i didnt mean to make anyone feel like that, as ive said before, i jsut threw games onn the list, and thats why io threw the other option oin cuz i knew i was forgetting some

When it comes out next week, Fable 3. I know I'm going to like it the best because it has John Cleese and Simon Pegg voice-acting in it. This makes it my game of the year.

Since I base my selection on how addictive the game was:

Console- Blazblue Continuum Shift. I enjoy fighting games, and ARC systems know how to make kick ass fighting games that are addictive as hell. And I'll keep on playing it until I get a new Guitly Gear...if that ever happens.

Runner up I guess would be ME2. Was pretty decent and while not as amazing as people claimed it to be, it made improvements to the game that pleased me...even if the story was a little spotty. I have a real tough love relationship with ME, they are average at best games, and I despise them on some level...but at the same time I still play them because of my inner sci fi geek craving a sci fi RPG and there are a few redeeming qualities I guess.

Portable- Peace walker for the time being, excellent game with tight controls, gameplay, and awesome story. It looked, sounded, and played great and had a ton of content, really outdid itself.

Runner up would be Birth By Sleep. All I have to say it Bravo squenix, it was my first KH game and it left a good impression on me and enjoyed it quite a bit. Turned a non fan into someone who will pursue playing the others some day.

Although God of War: Ghost of Sparta comes out next month and it's looking awesome based on the hype and the demo I played. It would very well steal GOTY portable for me if it's anywhere as good as Chains of Olympus...which it looks to be that way.

All I know for sure is that Dissidia 2 is automatically my 2011 GOTY, unless they fuck up huge in some way....which I don't see happening. March/April can't come sooner.

As of right now... erm, I think Fallout: New Vegas is the only game released this year that I've played.

*checks*

Oh yeah, forgot about Bioshock 2 and FF13. I guess it'd be Bioshock 2 then. New Vegas will probably take it in the long run but I'm only just a few hours in so I can't say right now. That said, we've got Rock Band 3 and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood on the horizon - it's worth remembering that AC2 was my game of the year for 2009, although I suspect this one will suffer as a result of the stupid decision to include multiplayer.

The only way you can gauge a true public response is by visiting public forums that have no affiliation with anything to do with Bioware. General gaming or computing sites where a thousand people can say anything about anything.
Oh.

A general gaming site you say. One without any affiliation to Bioware. Where a whole bunch of people can say anything about anything.

Like... say...

... this site right here.

Y'know, that site known as "The Escapist". That site where people are lining up to declare Mass Effect 2 to be their game of the year.

Is that the kind of site you mean?
And I'm saying, where will this "game of the year" be in 5 years time? 2 years time?

Hell... 1 year.

A "game of the year" should be something that is truly a testament of gaming, not a flavour of the month that will wither and die.

Mass Effect 2.
After playing all of its would be challengers it still holds its head above all of them due to the fact it just does everything well. I haven't played too many games that have that sort of balance. Add to the fact that it offers a true unique experience depending on how you play it and it should rightfully be crowned game of the year.

Nice bit of sidestepping there. Well done.

The question of this thread is "what is your game of the year". That is to say, of all the games released this year, which do you think was best? Note that "game of the year" in this context means "best game of 2010". Not "best game of 2010, 2011 and the next three years as well".

Anyway, how do you know that ME2 will be forgotten in a few years? Besides your own wishful thinking of course. Because "flavour of the month" starts sounding a bit silly when you consider that as of tomorrow it will have been out for nine months. And judging by that big fat poll up there, it's still going strong.

Y'know, I'm starting to suspect that you're just a bit bitter because ME2 is currently standing proud with 206 votes. While poor little Civ5 is... heh... withering and dying with a rather pitiful 18 votes.

I can't make a fair decision until I see Black Ops and Cataclysm. But as for right now, Starcraft 2. A flawless single-player + a multi-player being constantly improved = good game.

why no alan wake love?? =[

My vote's for AW..I was too disappointed by Reach and I've never been a Mass Effect fan

I'm still reserving judgement for Enslaved and (maybe) Castlevania just for the sheer amount of content it offers...we'll see in two months who really wins =D

To be honest, I'm a little disappointed with 2010. Not many games managed to 'wow' me this year, though lacking the time to play many games meant I didn't buy all that many.

So far, Valkyria Chronicles 2 is the game I've had the most fun with and my biggest time-sink, so I guess that'll be my pick until something else comes along.

Mass Effect 2 is a fun enough shooter with some good writing, but it's got no story, a bunch of typically generic Bioware characters, and no real worth as an RPG.

Civ 5 and FNV both had severe issues at launch (FNV is a 100 times worse off than Civ 5).

Enslaved is pretty shitty from a gameplay perspective.

Halo: Reach is..well..Halo. No thanks.

Dead Rising 2 is a lot of fun and I've enjoyed every second that I've played of it, but it's not GOTY material.

I've got to hand it to Minecraft. Sure it's only an Alpha, but it's given me more "oh shit awesome" moments than any other game this year and is shaping up to be the biggest indy hit ever.
