Uh... well my parents didn't up until I was about thirteen. Then they finally let me get Counter-Strike, and since then, they really don't give a flying whoop.

I was fairly mature for my age, my parents didn't really have a problem with violent video games as I don't go and by games because they are violent so we didn't really have too much of a problem with it.

When I did want to get 18 games my parents would consider it and usually get it if it was my money but as soon as i got my card i ordered everything online and there was no age check so it was all a bit of a moot point really.

They figured as long as i can tell the difference between what is real and what is not there wouldn't be a problem and there isn't :D

My father was a huge gamer when I was growing up and he never had any qualms about any games that I happened to get my hands on. Basically, his rule of thumb was "if I can play it, he can play it." I was the only kid allowed to play Duke Nukem 3d in my class. It was fun.

My parents couldn't care less about what I play, as far as they're concerned, it's just some harmless fun, I've always been considered mature for my age and as such, my parents never had any fears of me reenacting something stupid from a game.

My mom always condemned them, but for the senseless violence part rather than the fucks up your psyche part.

I preferred Mario over Grand Theft Auto anyway.

So, to sum up, I play the games I want to play, but I'm hardly going to show how sweat it is when a raiders head explodes in Fallout 3 to my mum.
It's kind of funny how, my mom made me literally smash my copy of Final Fantasy 8 when I was 9 because it had magic and sorcery in it.

Now she watched me play through the entire story of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (Teen game I know, but who cares), and I showed her Fallout 3 (which, looking back, probably wasn't a very good idea) and she actually enjoyed it. Even when she saw a raider's head explode in VATS slow-motion all she said was eww. I was surprised.

She doesn't like war games though. She lets me play war games, but she can't stand watching them. But if the game's premise sounds interesting to her (like Fallout 3's did) then she can look past the carnage. That's how I view it anyway.

I have no complaints.

I have Brutal Legend and Modern Warfare 2 on my "Play Regularly" list, so I'd say they don't give a shit.

My parents couldn't care less. The only thing they've ever mentioned to me about playing violent video games was not to play them for too long, other wise I'd go square eyed...which is what they said to me about every video game.

They knew me well enough that 5 minutes of GTA wouldn't make me want to blow up a town.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have a certain day-trip to Bognor Regis to plan...

Mom: Son, did you just scalp that zombie with a crowbar?

Me: Yes...

Mom: Have fun dear.

My mother recently came over and was enamoured with Condemned: Criminal Origins. She's of the opinion that if parents bought Condemned for their seven-year-olds instead of Halo and Grand Theft Auto, it could have a positive effect by:

A) Displaying graphic violence in a mature manner

B) Scaring kids away from M-rated games until they're in a more proper range

or C) Creating an army of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation fans, to which both of us view as a very good thing.

She's rather progressive. Most of my relatives are, save the only two who live in the U.S.

I'm not saying anything, just putting that out there.

My mother loved Doom almost as much as I did. So, yeah, I was allowed to play whatever I wanted.

Strangely enough my father never minded the shooters. He thought they were a bit silly, but he didn't mind them.

What he really hated were the Final Fantasy series. He was a forester/ecologist and he couldn't stand all the wild-life murdering you did in those games. He would (and still does) say "why can't you get along with that creature?", to which I would reply, "dad, that's a malboro - named after a brand of cigarette - that issues smoke from its mouth and stares at me with its hideous eyes as it wishes to chew up my characters and eat them. Also, its corpse has a surprising amount of money in it, either from all the previous adventurers it ate, or due to the fact that malboro's are.... addictive, ha ha".

I swear every single time I encounter any animal in any game, he would always say "why do you have to kill it? Can't you just observe it, or leave it alone?". But if I shoot up a whole room full of Russians he doesn't give a damn.

Me, yes, because I've never been the type to take things from video games and try to re-enact them in real life. My brother, not so much, he was always the kid in the garden with something pretending it was a gun or a sword, or practicing wrestling moves on people.

Nowadays, we're both in our mid 20s so it's not an issue.

I didn't really start gaming until I was about twelve, so my parents never really minded. Although, they never actually took the time to read why the game was rated what it was rated. My parents don't really care how violent it is, as long as there isn't any nudity. Which also means my dad bought the FOX news Mass Effect story. But they don't really care at all anymore, they have now switched to my brothheck, my parents don't even read movie rating either, which is fun when my parent watch a movie, but even that is extrememly relaxed.

My parents don't even read movie rating either, which is fun when my parents watch a movie that rated R and then are shocked by the violence, language, or sex the movie contains, to which I respond by reading the rating and why out loud.

My dad offered to let me play Doom at the age of 3. (Needless to say, even on easy, I got my ass kicked.) They never really got too much into bothering me about it. They really care more about the language than anything, but even that's not too much.
