I dont like popular music because its all repeated shit, over and over, 4/4 time, maybe 6/4 if they're REALLY pushing it, but its ust been made to get as much out as quickly as possible, so its all crap... or maybe between the buried and me and the black dahlia murder arent in the charts and thats why :O

There's nothing special or unique about popular music. Why would I listen to that which is wholly mediocre when I could listen to something that's awesome?

The reason I hate popular music is because those cheapskates actually care about being corporately succesful and topping the Billboard Charts, and because they are high overrated and there are far more talented bands.

But I feel more strongly about the first one, music isn't supposed to be about chart rankings and getting meaningless awards, it's about the [HEADING=1]MUSIC[/HEADING].
The whole problem with this way of thinking is that you believe that these bands are successful because they care more about being successful and topping billboard chats. Is it not possible that these are just fortunate bands, that happen to be making music that appeals to a lot of people currently?

I'm sure their are opportunists in the mainstream music world, bands and singers who had the foresight to know exactly what was going to make it big, and the idea to exploit that understanding. I'm also sure that a lot of these bands simply were making the right music at the right time at the right place.

And just because a band gives a shit about doing well, is there anything wrong with that. Don't you sorta want the bands you love to be able to continue making music?

I've played with a lot of bands over a lot of years. I've seen countless really good bands fall apart because they couldn't afford to sink money into touring the country (without any sort of promise on a return on that cash), and had to get real jobs. If any of these bands ever got a good label deal from a label that wouldn't fuck them over, the chance for the entire country to hear their music, and being assured the ability to continue making music, I'd be as happy as I could be for those guys.

Most people seem to like simple music, repetition and tempos that they are used to. I like more complex music that makes me think or analyze it, either lyrically or musically. I just think that maybe most people who buy what comes out are those that like the simple.

Because it's popular, and people want to seem edgy by disliking popular stuff.
you can't use that word, you know that!*files law suite*
I hate most popular music because it's not that good. I do like some, just 13 year old girls with credit cards will buy more Jonas brothers than better bands will ever sell. and why do people hate bands like "nickle back"? I mean, sure they're not even close to the best band, but why do people hate them like they do.

I strongly dislike most mainstream music for a number of reasons.

The foremost reason is because it bores the hell out of me. It's way to mellow.

Second, slap a letter H on my head and call me Captain Hypocrisy, but I feel that most mainstream songs are incredibly generic and uninspired. Now as a metal head, I'll be the first to tell you metal is filled with generic bleh, but there's far less of it.

Third, The lyrics of most popular songs make me wanna hurl.

I don't hate a song or a type of music because it's popular or unpopular, I hate it because it sucks.

Honestly, a LOT of people hate popular music because they've developed some sort of superiority complex when it comes to music.

A lot of times they develop this dim view that music being more complex means it's better. Or more 'original' means it's better. Or the fact that the bands they listen to can't write a catchy hook to save their lives is somehow a good thing. I could go on.

Not saying these things are bad, they just aren't necessarily good, or better either.

I hate pop music because MOST of it is uninspired, unoriginal, badly written, and rip off bad 80's and 90's songs with the same determination that someone else would put into making a good song.

Because hating the trend is the new black. People like to think that they're 'originals' by hating things that lots of people like. That, or they just really don't like it and choose to be very vocal about it.

Just because an artist can provide a small idea towards a song like "Alexandra Burke" doesn't mean she wrote the song or had any part in it aside from that one little idea and singing it.

Personally I can listen to any genre, more or less, including some pop music. But I can only listen to certain pop arists, the ones with actual talent. Most popular muisc is just made up of cheap, tacky, "party/awful love/I never loved you" songs with no substance. And I can't listen to that.

Because you cant escape popular music in public. Pop radio stations are the worst, not for the music they play but the over abundance of replays per day. Every two hours for a song that's hot.

People want to seem original. The worst is people who listen to mainstream rock and think that they're unique and not sheep because they do so. Or people who trash hip-hop :(.

This really depends on what you think "popular" music is. Plenty of music is popular, just to different audiences. People are more likely to make judgements based on the sound of a song, or the genre it comes from as they are to make judgements based on how many other people like it.
Very true. Dark Messiah. Very True

Does music have to be unpopular to be good? Noo. I sense jealousy.

I listen to every genre. I can't not like a genre. However, I don't like certain artists in that genre though.

By law, I like at least one song by every artist I've listened too, which might be why my 80 gig Zune is filled up to the brim with more than 1000 different artists.

The only band I have yet to find a song that I enjoy is Mindless Self Indulgence, and quite frankly, I'm not looking that hard.
