You'll need it...
OT: I like the Xbox because it's really the only console I've tried. the controller is comfortable and the exclusives are pretty gewd.
Looks like the Riot Shield failed you, huh.

OT: I'm an X360 guy. I like the games it has, and the Live component barely lags. If I had to complain, I would say that Microsoft charges a bit too much for XBL. Not too much, just a bit.

Oh well, atleast it's on the escapist, probably the most civilised forum on the web.
You, my friend, need to explore the internet more if you believe that this forum is the most civilised on the web.
Oh yeah, name one thats better and lets us have as much freedom. What i mean by the freedom part is ive seen great comunites on some sites, however the sites did not allow swearing.

So, show me a site.
I'm guessing you're pretty young, judging by that post and your apparent need for profanities to get your message across to other forum users. Even though www.reddit.com may be a little above your maturity level - it is by far the most intelligent, witty and civilised forum I've experienced in my 15+ years of internetting :)

That's not to say the escapist isn't a great news source for gaming and game-related media, it's just not the greatest place for posting as a lot of topics end up in ridiculous little tiffs and dramas.
Fanboyism and immature subjectivity plague this site too much nowadays for it to be 100% tolerable, I'm suspecting a lot of runoff from sites such as gamespot.com and the likes have ended up here.
So im immature beacause i said the sites don't allow you to swear. Look, i swear just as much as the next guy but only if its needed and related to the subject. Its just if you getted banned from a site for swearing then thats not much freedom.

Now i guess im naturaly a bit immature since im 14 and all, but i am acually one of the most mature 14 year olds your going to find. Plenty of friends say it and so do alot of others. So calling me immature from one post is a bit judgemental of you. why don't you get to know people more before insulting them.

And if you want examples of how im a more mature 14 year old just ask and ill answer.
Let me show you how I guessed (might I add, correctly) your level of maturity.

First sign: You started out your original post with 'Oh yeah' - dead giveaway right there.
The rest pretty much sells itself. You admitted that you haven't been exposed to a lot of other forums on the net by referring to the escapist as the one with the most 'freedom'. The internet's huge mate, the escapist is a drop in an ocean on a planet in a universe.

Now to clear things up - I believe I'm in no way insulting you, immaturity is a fact of life - not a derogatory term that I would throw around. And did I throw it around blindly? I made an educated guess and was pretty much spot on. Do you not agree?

Your yearning to prove your mental age to me is kind of pointless and actually further enforces my initial assumption. I don't need you to prove you're more mature than other people your age and I am pretty much getting to know you as we speak? Right?

I'm sorry if I offended, it wasn't my intention - Remember that you were the one who lashed out at my opinion initially and I merely replied with honesty and my own opinion.

I prefer the PS3 because:
  • Better graphics
    Better exclusives
    Lighter and more comfortable controller
    Can play Blu-Rays
    Looks cooler

I've been with Playstation since the PS1 and I'll keep following it.

I prefer PS3, I've never been fond of Xbox, I don't really have a specific reason, I just never have liked it, sure I probly would like it if I tried it but I'm too stubborn.

Ive got both systems now.. so

still like my PS3 though:

Gaming: Xbox,

unfortunately this is where the xbox wins slightly BUT, only because cross platform games are made for the xbox then ported over to the PS3, this sometimes make graphic issues on the PS3, one example of this is the game Ghostbusters.

Video: PS3

Both systems have the ability to play video directly from the HD or from an external harddrive, however the PS3 will play one video after the other whereas the xbox stops after each video.

Audio: PS3
So this one is close because both systems sound great however the ps3 visualizers are cooler in my opinion, however making playlists with the xbox is easier.

Controller: PS3
the PS3 controller is lighter and smaller making in more comfortable. The standard controller that comes with your system is always wireless and rechargeable. Versus the xbox controller with is AA operated.

XBL vs PSN: PS3

its free, not $50 and the only thing I use online for is to play online video games. The xbox downloads are much faster though..

Cross Media Bar VS xbox dashboard: PS3

PS3 wins this also, the xbox has to many menus with to much color and stupid pictures, I don't want to scroll through all those stupid advertisements they show you. The PS3 is clean crisp and easy to us.

other PS3 wins
-removable hard drive

-my PS3 plays PS1 and PS2 games

-My PSP connects wirelessly to my PS3, I can then play some video games and PS1 games on my PSP without being in the same room or even state. Yah this thanksgiving i went to my family's house took my PSP and a tv connect cable. Was watching the Spongebob squarepants movie via my PSP wile my PS3 was in a different state.

- memory card slots are cool and if you had them you would use them. Want to show your friends pictures from that last party Pop out the card and push it into the slot bam you got picture, slideshow with music and some other cool visual stuff.

- The PS3 is cheeper also..

Just a rebuttal on this point.
PS3's were only backwards compatible for a very short time. Pretty much the decision to make PS3 only play PS3 games was a dick move by Sony and I hate them for that.
Money-hunger at its worst.

I have both the PS3 and Xbox systems and I have to say, I like the Xbox better. I actually like the xbox controller, and all the games that I want to play are on the Xbox.

Of course, I know what everyone's going to bring up. "But what about the red ring of death!!! OMFG!!! It happens to everyone and will kill my xbox and I spent that money for nothing!!!"
Yes, this has happened to me. Three times, in fact. But guess what? All i needed to do was call up microsoft and get it fixed for free. And I didn't even have warranty. My PS3, on the other hand, had four seperate problems happen in less than two years, and I had to argue with sony to have them fix the problems that they had caused.

Another thing is Xbox live verses Playstation Network. You dont really want to choose the system based soully on this. Yes Playstation Network is free, but Xbox live has a better connection. Plus, Live only really takes sixty bucks a year.

But really, it doesn't matter much which console you choose, they both have a lot of the same games and they can both play movies. It just comes down to which games you want.

You guys are right, I should have been a little more specific.
I am a Sony guy and have a PS3. Although Xbox like I said originally has a more impressive game roster. My loyalties still lie with Sony, and will probably remain as such until I get screwed by them. I still prefer PS3s line up of games. And I love the controller. Its been used for 3 generations of consoles. I know its layout and am quite comfortable with it.

Yes my friend by posting this it shall surely become one.

OT: Most just will just see which has more options suitable to their needs. If you'd like to know these do some research, believe me youl be glad you did. Especially since counsels cost a hefty sum, secondly you should just go on your own opinion since you might be lured by some one elses. Go to a friend try the Xbox, then try a PS3 then buy one. This is what these all these kinds of topics come to in the end.

Yeah, I have a good feeling this will end in a flame war. Honestly this is more of a social experiment. I want to see how well people can follow directions and remain civil even while reading potentially negative criticism about something they enjoy.
Ohh so you're a troll... for Knowledge?

My brain just exploded. Anyway, reported
Ah you ninjad me. But yes trolling for any reason is against the rules. Please read them, their there to keep people from making these kinds of topics. Reported aswel

I can see how you would think I'm trolling. That's not my intention. I don't want a flame war to start in the least bit. I would however like to see a topic like this be discussed in a mature manner without a flame war brewing. So far, everyone is playing along. It's not so bad is it?
According to your own posts this is a: "Social experiment to see if this will become a flame war, and you fully expect it will probably end with a non-civil flame war"

so if I get this right (Don't worry, I do, it's pretty black and white) you posted a controversial topic as a "social experiment" (direct quote) to see if it would end in a flame war and you: "I have a good feeling this will end in a flame war.".

You:

Posted something to see if it would make a flame war as an "experiment" and you expect it will.

Troll:

Posts something meant to brew controversy (one form of which is a flame war)

Yeah...sounds exactly like a troll to me, and if it posts like a troll, admits it expects a
flame war like a troll, and says "I am not a troll" like a troll, it's a troll.

Reported. (guess what for? Being a troll)
...

He's just trying to see if people can be civil about this. Exact semantics are... well, irrelevant.

I find it funny that you, the one who is reporting to try and prevent a flame war is angrily flaming him, the troll.

Therefore, you've either fallen victim to him or you are just reporting him on protocol.

~EDIT~

Reading all the posts... I gotta say... you were almost... almost right...

*sigh*

OP: PS2 all the way.

I love my PS3 and all, but... my PS2 has Okami.

I've poured over 150 hours into that game.

this is actually a legit complaint for the 360 tho, you can't ignore the fact that they have REALLY bad hardware.

anyways i'm going to go with some stuff that m$ enjoys doing and that's going for total cost of ownership

the 360

- must pay for good online
- can't have the iplayer because m$ wants it reserved for paid live customers, not the free ones (this is UK only tho)
- hardly ever has free dlc from the store
- have to purchase m$ only hardware, no third party stuff
- wireless costs extra
- can't install other operating systems legally

the ps3

- free online
- free game dlc from the store
- built in wireless
- can use any bluetooth hardware with it
- can install other operating sytems (pre-slim models)
- can use any 3rd part storage device
- easy to upgrade the hard drive, it's in the manual

the other downside to the 360 is a lot of the "exclusives" show up on the pc shortly after. so if you don't have one, you just need a pc and you can play it a couple months later, usually with more content and free dlc

i had both and loved them equally.......
until my 360 broke down around 7 times and i had to keep resending it to shitty Microsoft Tech support.....

Love the PS3 a lot more today because it has been in it's same position since day 1 and not a hiccup from the obelisk i call a console. would like the 360 more if i didn't have to be put through the ringer every time it gave me the ever-friendly E-74 error by microsoft techjust for wanting a product that works for more than 2.5 months or when i t feels like it.

it's not the console itself that made me dislike it, but the "support" given for it when the shit hits the fan.

That being said, the controller is a good size for my hands when I was 9 not, now. I have Man Hands (Cookie for reference)
Can you crush a lobster? Seinfeld wooooo!

OT: I prefer the PS3 as it's a complete entertainment system; it acts as a computer, a mass storage device that you can play anything from, free online, HDMI capabilities, blue-ray player, gaming device, etc. It's pretty much the one system you don't need to buy a bunch of accessories for to utilise everything (see: Nintendo Wii).

*ahem* Gentlemen...

In all due honesty, I prefer my 'Box to my Station...

The controller for the 'Box feels better to me, I like the curves better, and its a tad jarring to feel a stuck button from the station controller.

The layout, again, goes to the box which formats everything into helpful boxes, whereas the PS3 lines everything up and kinda expects you to pick the culprit out... another thing, the text in a lot of the menus, like the Network Shop, are so fricking tiny... and I have a 36 inch television.

Games? The Box... TRUE it is dominated by shooters and I can barely stand the half of them... I mean there are some good FPS's that I enjoy... L4D I particularly lavish my attention onto... And there are other sorts of games that don't run along the same lines.
YES! I have played Infamous and Uncharted, the problem is I'm having a hard time fingering out any titles on the console that I would actually like to give a try... the most of them giving that sort of HYPER-REALISTIC HO'CRAP YOU CAN SEE THE VEINS IN HIS EYEBALLS THEY'RE KINDA LIKE YOURS BUT DON'T LOOK IN A MIRROR CAUSE THAT BLACK BLOB GUY WILL RUN UP AND SHOOT YOUR FACE OFF!

...in case you're wondering, I like offbeat games...

It kinda bothers me that its all, "PS3 only does everything." Well yeah, but I only ask for games and movies sometimes, and a installation period for the game sometimes burns away a bit of the hype for me, whilst most Blu-ray movie menus have a kinda cruddy look to them, like I just got it off a shady market or something...

One last little thing... I like the achievement score thing better than the trophies... eh. The points feel more like a score, whereas the trophies feel like a cluttered closet... I dunno... just a nit to pick I guess...

You know this always leads to the same points, over and over again... allow me to summarize:

1. The Controller. Some people prefer the smaller, lighter PS3 controller, some people prefer the larger, more ergonomic 360 controller. I am in the latter group.

2. Online. One side will say that PSN is Free, the other side will say that Live is better and if you can afford a $300 console you can afford Live. I tend to agree with the latter.

3. Games. Some 360 exclusives are also on PC, while PS3 exclusives don't show up anywhere else. Multi-platform games are typically better on 360. 360 has a wider library of games, but it's been out longer. This is a matter of personal preference and should really be the biggest deciding factor in choosing a console. I prefer the 360 library but I can recognize good titles on the PS3.

4. Community. People say that 360 owners are all angry frat-boy douchebags. People say that PS3 users are all introvert tech-nerds who barely play online. Both are wrong.

5. Price. Both are about the same now for what you get. This should no longer be an issue.

6. Tech. PS3 wins here, really... running Linux, removeable HDD, Blu-Ray player, more reliable. 360 tries to make up for it with better PC integration and more digital content.

Any way you slice it... both systems have their merits, and you just need to figure out which ones are for you.

My choice was made back in 2006, when the PS3 cost a mint and games like Oblivion and Dead Rising were coming out for 360. If I had to make the choice now it would be a lot harder to do, but since I already have a Blu-Ray player, many 360 accessories and some great games still coming, I re-upped with 360.

I don't fault PS3 owners for choosing the PS3 though.

I have a [insert console a of your choice here] since i don't have [console b] i must hate it, cause otehrwise i'm on the verge of admitting that i just may have chosen the wrong console, and why on earth would i waste an oppertunity, to make mysel feel superrior to other people.

People are, and will always be whiny tards like that.

Ps any thread that contatins ps3 and Xbox360 in the title is bound to end in a flame war, no matter how orininal and different you may wrongly think your hread is from the 20 other threads á week on about the two game platforms.

If you wanna know how people feel about teh console they have/don't have, read the 1000's of ps3 vs/loves/is the same, shouldn't fight/etc 360 threads tehre is already.

If you're just farming badges, you're doing it right, and fuck... i just helped you

Gonna start face-deskign and whipping myself now
