I like the 360 controller better for shooters and the PS3 controller for just about everything else.

The PS3 has some pretty slick graphics, and the 360 has some cool exclusives. They're equal in my mind. Share the love!

Is this really necessary? and it will most likly descend into a flame war. Why can't we just put all these "Which is best?" things to bed? Whats best for one person could be awful for another. Why must we shout our opinions from the roof tops like howler monkeys?? Can't we all just enjoy our own things without needing everyone else to know how much we adore them?

If I were to buy a new console right now it would be a PS3, because I already have a 360, it would be kind of stupid to get two of the same consoles anyway. Then I'd have two out of three current-gen consoles.
Anyway, I still love my 360 and if it broke down outside of the warranty, I'd get a new one over the PS3 (Otherwise I wouldn't be able to make use of any of my Xbox 360 games.).

Xbox Wins: controller, Xbox LIVE, decent HD, lower price (BEFORE THE PS3 SLIM!) xbox-only games
PS3 Wins: Free online service, more graphical power, blu-ray player, ps3-only games

both of them are equally win and fail. your preference only depends on what you consider important. i decided to get a 360 because all my friends have them and i have yet to see a game where you can play across different consoles. that would be pretty win.

It's easier to play Lumines on the PS3 d-pad, and the PSN Store has Digger. 'Nuff said.

My main reasons for choosing a PS3 were the 360s massive library of FPS and FPS gaming focus (like yourself I can't stand most FPS notable exceptions to System Shock/2, Bioshock and Timesplitters)

And I know Sony makes generaly reliable hardware, and I did not feel like paying for online that I already pay my ISP for.
Nmil-ek has a good point about reliability. I have enjoyed Sony products for a long time but I ended up getting the X-Box in this current generation of systems. The blu-ray player was very tempting, but the games like Lair weren't out yet and Microsoft tends to put out more of the RPG's I enjoy. So, PS3 might be catching up with its choice of titles finally, but I went with X-Box more for the choices when it came out.

But the controller will feel weird at first just like the dual-stick controller for the Playstation did at first. But you will get used to it fairly quickly.

Honestly, they are both solid systems but you should consider the available titles, especially of the genres you most enjoy. Then consider price. I'm sure you'll be pleased either way.

For me it comes down to the game on the roster for me. There's nothing to draw me to the 360, save for it's dramatic pile of FPS games (and yes, I'm not one for those, even CoD and MW). Personally though, it probably comes down to loyalty to Sony, comfort with the XMB and controller and finally Uncharted, which for me tops anything in the 360's library.

Also to throw in, I'm not willing to pay for online. If I was I'd be a WoW whore.

While reading the posts in this thread, i have an uneasy feeling that its going to explode any second into hate fueled mess... i swear you could cut the tension with knife XD

OT: im a 360 man myself. but ive never played the ps3 so i cant really say much. if i had the choice i'd go with the 360.. even with the fact that you have to pay for xbox live. I just think xbox has a much better line-up of games. mass effect, left 4 dead, gears of war, gta dlc, crackdown, halo (i guess), dead rising, the fable series , saints row and alan wake soon. I just think that the xbox has better exclusives... granted the ps3 has the metal gear solid and god of war series, which i love both... its just not enough to warrant a purchase.

Oh well, atleast it's on the escapist, probably the most civilised forum on the web.
You, my friend, need to explore the internet more if you believe that this forum is the most civilised on the web.
Considering it is the internet, I'd rather not explore it.

I am tied between the two. For me its like deciding between Alfa Romeo and Toyota.

The Alfa being the Xbox

The Toyota being the PS3.

The Alfa has personality but it always breaks down, pretty much high highs and low lows.

The Toyota is a workhorse that will do whatever you please but it always stays in the middle, always fun but never great but never bad.

The 360 does have a better online, it is worth the $50 (if you think about it its a bit over $5 a month) and like the party system and the fact that everyone has mics. However it has too many dumbass fanboys, i hate 70% of its online comunity, and the exclusives i could easily live without.

The PS3 has free online and since everone doesnt have a mic 90% of the people that do are people who's balls have droped and are atleast mostly civilized. It however doesnt have a party system like the 360 which i kinda miss. I do like the exclusives on it though, GT5 is nice (the full one will be even better), Resistance is fun and co-op is great, Demons Souls, well its Demons Souls. It hasnt broken down yet. And i like the controler set up since i grew up with it.

So you wanna know the clear winner.

The Kit Car, AKA the PC.

Why is it a Kit Car, well because its made by the owner, its custome built for its needs, its got personality, and even a cheap one can show up the big boys.

Saying "not a flame war" is like saying "no offence but"
OT: I cant comment so well cos i havent played that much xbox except at friends houses so i dont have experience of live which is what so many people say makes the console but i will say this. The blu-ray player added to a good console does make an excellent package and i do like gears of war

I'm guessing you're pretty young, judging by that post and your apparent need for profanities to get your message across to other forum users. Even though www.reddit.com may be a little above your maturity level - it is by far the most intelligent, witty and civilised forum I've experienced in my 15+ years of internetting :)

That's not to say the escapist isn't a great news source for gaming and game-related media, it's just not the greatest place for posting as a lot of topics end up in ridiculous little tiffs and dramas.
Fanboyism and immature subjectivity plague this site too much nowadays for it to be 100% tolerable, I'm suspecting a lot of runoff from sites such as gamespot.com and the likes have ended up here.

So im immature beacause i said the sites don't allow you to swear. Look, i swear just as much as the next guy but only if its needed and related to the subject. Its just if you getted banned from a site for swearing then thats not much freedom.

Now i guess im naturaly a bit immature since im 14 and all, but i am acually one of the most mature 14 year olds your going to find. Plenty of friends say it and so do alot of others. So calling me immature from one post is a bit judgemental of you. why don't you get to know people more before insulting them.

And if you want examples of how im a more mature 14 year old just ask and ill answer.

Well that changes EVERYTHING!

Thanks for pointing that out, I'm sure the anonymous denizens of the internet will be COMPLETELY civil about this now.

EDIT: BTW, I like the 360 better because I think its online support is better than PS3's to the point where even though PSN is free, I would rather pay for Xbox Live, I also like the games that come out for the 360 more, a good number of them have been making their way to the PS3 lately, but who wants a game a week/month/year late? Those two reasons made me choose 360 (also the PS3 initial price tag was kind of a ***** slap).
So you would rather buy a cheaper system but pay more in the long run? In just two payments you have already payed more than a 120gb ps3 slim would cost.

(Just based off info I have quickly searched for on the net, so I am not sure if it's accurate)
Yeah I would, I really don't mind the extra cost, its more than worth it to me.
Okay, thats your choice.

I read some were that the ps3 has better hardware (I am not sure if it's true or not). In the long run aren't you paying more for a system that will eventually fade in comparison to the ps3?

I know with the ps2 it started off as good and the games just got better and better, so I am assuming it will happen to the ps3 but the xbox may only get slightly better.

Of course I could be totally wrong.
