The PS3 probably does have better hardware in some respects, and everyone keeps saying the PS3 is the choice for those looking ahead to the future, but no matter how good hardware is, 360 has the games I really want to play, now, and since when has a domineering trait in gamers ever been patience?

As a psycho ADD guy, I can officially say:

SCREW PATIENCE!

Plus, if the PS3 waits too much longer to start tapping into their potential, companies will lose interest and won't be there to make games for them when Sony finally decides to go for broke.

I am not bashing the PS3, but I do like the 360 better, I see a ton of potential in the PS3, but not if Sony keeps up its "admit no fault, wait indefinitely" business strategy it seems to have employed.
What are these games? I have just looked down the list of xbox exclusives (although some were shared with the pc)and I think none of them are "WOW, I wish I had a 360 for them games" with maybe the exception of GoW and halo series. It's a genuine question, what are these games you want to play NOW, that you can't get on another system?

Like you, I am not bashing the 360, sometimes I come across the wrong way (it's a curse). I like to break everything down into it's simplest form.

I have had a playstation since I can remember from psx to ps3 but before I bought a ps3 I read about which was going to be better, in the short term the 360 was cheaper and had better games but in the long run the ps3 is alot cheaper and will have better games.

I think it just takes awhile for playstations to gain momentum, they start out a little sluggish but slowly they start turning out better and better games.

So, if the ps3 has better hardware, it will be able to go above and beyond the 360, am I right?
Halo3, Dead Rising, Left 4 Dead (seriously, L4D is enough of a reason by ITSELF), Mass Effect, Saints Row 2, Splinter Cell, Fallout 3 (came to PS3 later) and all sequels within those franchises. (these are not all, but a short list off the top of my head)

Some of those may have got to the PS3 later, but again, I am about the now, and yes, the PS3 probably has the potential to kick the 360's ass, but Sony is not utilizing that potential properly, and if they don't do it soon, companies will lose interest and they will NEVER get the opportunity to utilize its full potential.

The PS3 is sound, it's the guy holding its leash that's the problem.

And that is why I like the 360 better.

(Little known fact: I actually HAVE a PS3, but unfortunatly it's just been collecting dust since MGS4 came out, I was holding out for Final Fantasy, but it looks like that's also coming to the 360 now, so I am probably gonna sell my PS3 soon)

Also, I HATE the PS3 slim, it's smaller and a bit cheaper, but at the cost of ALL of those great PS 1 & 2 games? I don't think so, I loved PS2 and PS1

I like the 360, but I like FPSs. It has a few hard and software issues and not as much space as the PS3 in it's hard drive, but it has some good games and reliable with getting big titles. I still think that we shouldn't fuss over what console and just say that they are all pretty much equal. except the N64. That is what all consoles hope to be.

Ehhh I hate to admit it... But I think the PS3 is growing on me... At first I was hesitant but all the games you can buy, the badass Rapture background theme, and a lot of good 360 games come out on PS3 so... The only reason I still play my 360 is because of a few reasons:
A) My friends don't have PS3
B) I prefer Xbox live online play
C) Some games, not many but a few, only come out on 360.

In the end, they're both good systems. I just have more fun on PS3. I play my Xbox, but not as much.

I like the PS3 myself. Just more games that I like on there. I like the XBox 360 just fine. I just prefer the PS3. Plus I've always been a Sony man.

Just a rebuttal on this point.
PS3's were only backwards compatible for a very short time. Pretty much the decision to make PS3 only play PS3 games was a dick move by Sony and I hate them for that.
Money-hunger at its worst.
Official reason: they couldn't make it work and still be cost effective. My perceived reason: we're all dopes who will buy decade old games again if someone gives us a chance (I've purchased doom five different times now).
So true;
I bought Mario 64 3 times.
Half-Life 3 times.
Grim Fandango 2 times.
Twilight Princess 2 times.
I'm sure there's more games I'm forgetting...

Truly, gamers are their own worst financial enemy.

I prefer the PS3 because of:
Exclusives- Ratchet and Clank, God of War, Killzone, Infamous, Flower, Gran Turismo etc... are my favorite titles in this generation and previous ones. I do like Xbox 360 games, Halo, Gears, but I like the PS3 ones better. IM(P)HO
Dualshock 3- Blue tooth connection, USB charging, Controller layout, SIXAXIS CAN work!
Black Finish- Not really important, but...

If there's one thing I've learned whilst wasting my life away playing vidjas, it's that they get exponentially more fun the more friends you have playing. If you're trying to decide which system to get, go with the one that more of your friends have.

i used to be a big playstation fan, then my brother bought an xbox 360, which was actually really good, until it DIED, so we bought another one (an elite this time) and then one year later (same as the last and both after the warranty funnily enough) that has died too, now ive looked into this and apparently 54% of 360s die after a year.... which to me sounds like REALLY bad service on microsofts part, whereas ive heard very little from ps3 owners in terms of horror stories, and seeing as all of my past playstations have been perfect im afraid im going to vote playstation

Yep, but I am talking about 360 over PS3, not anything over PC, I prefer the charm of the consoles, and achievement whoring never hurt either.

Some of those games are on pc and ps3 though, I was talking about pure exclusives, such as MGS4.

I don't think any company will lose interest in ps3. There making the games, they have to work out how to get the most out of the ps3, it's not like sony are saying, you can only use 40% of the ps3's performance.

You can get these games in other places, 99% of desktops can run any of the games you listed (on very low specs).

PS3's were only backwards compatible for a very short time. Pretty much the decision to make PS3 only play PS3 games was a dick move by Sony and I hate them for that.
Money-hunger at its worst.
I think that discontinuing the backwards compatibility of the PS3 has more to do with the fact that Sony realized that the PS2 market wasn't quite dead and less with the fact that they wanted to make more money. At least considering that it became one of the top selling blue ray players.
Ummmm you just backpedaled my point there mate.

Pretty much exactly what I meant. Sony stopped their initial plans of backwards compatibility because the PS2 was still making money. They knew that the PS2 market was strong at the launch of the PS3 - they'd be idiots to not realise their own sales figures. Sony wanted to cash in so they halted backwards compatibility and started manufacturing more PS2 consoles so people would buy a PS3 and if they wanted to play PS2 games, they'd need to buy a PS2 as well.
Think about it - so what if people could play PS2 games on a PS3, the developers of the games aren't losing out, people are still buying their software. Sony just got greedy and wanted to cash in on a last-gen market they'd already had more than their fare share of.

Pretty selfish imo and very Sony of them.
Playstation is the only Sony product I own, I can't stand their other products - overpriced and glorified pretty much sums up Sony.
Perhaps, but I don't really seeing it as money grubbing. They must have realized that there are still people who either aren't ready or those that can't spend that amount of coin on a PS3. So rather then trying to push the PS3 harder, they instead backed off and allowed for a cheaper alternative.

But maybe I am just being a little too optimistic.

What a positively important post! This discussion has literally NEVER happened before, on the Escapist or indeed the entire internet! I've never heard any arguments for either system! I see no reason that this will turn into one of those 'flame wars' I keep hearing about!
WIN.
I have to say, Killzone looks absolutely amazing. However, I own a 360 and have never even touched a PS3. Or seen one in person. I think I saw an empty PS3 box at a gamestop once.
Anyways, I picked the 360 when it first came out for a few reasons.
1. All the games I wanted for PS3 got cancelled/delayed/got terrible reviews
2. The PS3 was $600 at the time, well beyond my means.
3. I played the Xbox at my friend's house and never had a bad time, so why not try the 360?
4. Gears of War looked awesome, whereas... nothing I was interested in came out on PS3.
5. Home did not appear until something like a year after release (Gah, don't quote me on that, it's a rough estimation!)
6. Neither console ever looked very different in terms of games' graphics, so for roughly half the price of a PS3 the 360 started looking mighty fine.

I stand by my choice. If I was given the option to switch consoles, I wouldn't. I still want to play Little Big Planet someday. I want to experience Killzone 2, because Killzone was awesome on PS2. But for the games I'm interested in (mostly FPS's, with some RPG's, and indie games sprinkled in there via Xbox Live), Xbox 360 is my console of choice.

Stating something that is not fact and presenting it as a fact IS flaming.... like when you said the 360 has no 3rd party hardware:

http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/19/fanatec-porsche-911-turbo-wheel-for-xbox-360-review/
http://www.madcatz.com/Default.asp?Page=247

Your post was filled with 360 bashing. 360 used to be cheaper but now that PS3 dropped it's price they're about even, with PS3 winning in the long run due to Live. However, I don't give two shits about price, I care about the games and that's why I made the switch.

It's not actually 54%, that's the results of some bad survey game informer did where the participants didn't even have to own 360's. As for them dying, the first and second generation boxes were prone to problems, but the warranty was extended to 3 years on all systems, so you should contact MS and get a replacement.
