It's a very tough choice, as many of those works in the poll are incredible pieces of art, and saving just one (while damning the rest to destruction) would be horrifying.

From the poll options, I'd say the Sistine Chapel, but only just.

If I'd voted 'other' I'd have maybe gone for something by Caravaggio, Lichtenstein or Bosch.

Although if we're talking any art, not just painted art, then it's an even tougher choice.

That was a very hard choice, I ended up choosing Starry Night because it always spoke to me the most, but the lost any single one of those art works would be a massive loss to the human race, on par with the great crimes against culture (burning of the Library of Alexandria, the sacking of the Grand Library of Baghdad, etc).

Thank God for the Internet I always say, personally I think we need to invest in a massive data repository designed to be placed in orbit around the sun, say between Mars and Earth that we can update remotely that so if anything happens and we enter a new dark age at least in a few thousand years when civilisation grows back that wont be taunted by titles and descriptions of great works like we are (I really want to read the full collection of Epic Cycle).

I chose other, cos im not really into those on the list. If anything i would save Dali or Picasso as im more into modern art.

But my choice is this - Impression, soleil levant

Its my favourite and the only piece of art i own

I also like Wanderer above a Sea of Fog by Caspar David Friedrich

The School of Athens by Raphael

The sheer amount of detail and hidden meaning is amazing.
Geee, what hidden meanings. :)

An excellent choice!

Personally, I would go for Something by Piet Mondrian.

Starry Night. It's so damn beautiful. I love Picasso, but I much prefer his portraits to his Guernica. Pretty much anything else by Picasso, though, would be a save for me.

How the heck can one save the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Its only 12,000 square feet in size! As oppose to La Gioconda (Mona Lisa) which is only 30 inches by 21 inches. The Birth of Venus is a painting I'd save.
