HA! Yeah, those'll be a little illegal fairly soon. Or maybe just really, really annoying, depending on how important the government decides free speech is...

I kind of want one (the super-laser, not the South African horn), but just to test how powerful it is. I have no intention of burning people with it (except maybe myself accidentally, but that's how science works)

This totally won't go wrong, nope, not at all.

OT: Wow, that really needs to be band, and the businesses shut down. I know the government going around shutting things down is very bad for PR, but you have a company selling a weapon touting as being the most deadly of it's kind ever, without any restrictions, to anyone, anywhere (in the U.K.), for a rather small price. I'm pretty sure you can't even buy a gun for two hundred seventy dollars (rough estimate), which at least then it's registered and each gun can be traced, at least in one way or another.
Yes, that sounds great! Let's ban it, so only criminals will have them!
Wait, so we're communists now?
Yes, but criminals will have them either way. It's like countries that ban guns. Sure, only criminals have guns, but criminals will have them either way, and it probably stops a few criminals. It also means less people get hurt by them accidentally. And what's so bad about Communism? It works in small groups, like a commune (ho hey, look, the first part of Communism is the word Commune), but not in large groups (like countries).
Which is why regular citizens should be allowed to have one in case a criminal attacks them.
Besides, it only burns your skin. It's less lethal than a friggin' gun!
And most guns I've seen are about three to five hundred dollars, and I have seen quite a few guns. Sure, criminals will have them, but criminals will have everything. In Mexico the gangs have tanks and planes, in Venezuela they have entire cities of people under their control, and after the earth quakes in Haiti they fought against the U.S military, even after tanks where brought in.

What I'm trying to say is that Banning something that's dangerous makes sense, as criminals will get anything, no matter what you do about it, and making it legal just makes it worse, as they don't have anyone trying to stop them from getting these things.

I wouldn't trust people to have access to this thing. I like being able to see.

I don't care about your freedom I care about my freedom. Your freedom to own a weapon is overruled by my freedom to be safe in my own community. You don't get to take away my freedom of safety just so that you can buy crap to hurt yourself and other people with.

I like living in a world where I don't have to worry about every random starwars fan blinding me. My little bro already hits my with his plastic lightsaber, I sure a hell wouldn't trust him with this lazor.

Aren't Lasers supposed to be a heavy drain on power? This leads me to suspect that this might be a prank, or possibly a misunderstanding. Are we sure the company didn't mean mV and typed W by mistake?

Second of all about the Crime/Government debate:
1stly: Criminals are not a profession. You can't just say 'criminals' like they are a homogeneous group. There are career criminals, but there are also crimes of impulse and passion even from people who have not even got a parking ticket.
2ndly: Most European Countries have banned firearms, yet have low rates of crime and high living standards and a surprising lack of dictatorship. i.e: Sweden and Norway. So instead of debating philosophy, look at countries and their practice of the philosophy and then compare them.

Now can we get back to the light-sabers?

This is a really great, really bad idea. Lightsabers are cool, but the fact that they kill people is, well, it's kinda the point, but I don't want to die and neither do my buddies.

Is a man not entitled to a lightsaber that makes people go poof?
No, says DementedTeddy, it could possibly kill millions
No, says Xanadu84, it is to inefficient
No, says ad5x5, they'll try to bring down a plane.
EMFCRACKSHOT denied these answers, and said yes.
He created a world where the Star wars fan did not fear the blindness,
Where a military could be incredibly badass,
And where the homeowner could defend his home without fear of going blind.

Slight disclaimer, i agree with most of the people mentioned
I want a lightsaber to make people go poof. I don't want one that causes cancer and blindness.
I don't want the wrong people to get it.
I've also played WAYYY to much Bioshock recently...

This is unbelievably stupid. It's like a gun that shoots sawblades. Sure, it may look cool, but what practical purpose other than that does it have? It's not precise to cut things exactly, you can't use it as a flashlight, and when would you possibly ever need to take it out?

Soviet Russia was corrupt.
Communism, pure communism is not.
Everyone is equal, everyone has the same opportunities, and the government, which eventually fades away with no impact on the populace is the guide to the Utopia.
It is a great thing that would be amazing if executed PROPERLY! Human greed has gotten in the way, as have governments that don't want to disappear. Soviet communism is bad, pure communism is good. Every attempt, however, has been instigated by corrupt people, and collapses because the fake beliefs can not hold the reality.
Communism is a good system if it is executed properly, sadly, this will likely never happen due to human nature and humans wanting more than another.

Its a incredibly irresponsible for the manufacturer to market that device to the general public. the least the UK could do is block the website IP.

Ah well, at least it will modernise chav knife-fights.
Block the ip? NO! that is a bad idea, however the same restrictions should apply to people buying this as would apply to any sale of heavy grade industrial equipment, that means you have to be QUALIFIED to use it and have a reason to want it to get you're hands on it. One would not sell a gun or a bulldozer to someone unregistered for its use, and one would not sell a bulldozer over seas to people who want to live out there favorite scenes from the hit movie "Bulldozer Wars".

Also blocking an ip and restricting the sale of weapons to "protect people" leads one down the Road to Serfdom, the government is only accountable to their actions when the people can make them accountable, "God made all men, Samuel Colt made them equal"-old saying

What a horrible idea. What positive motive could anyone have to buy one of these? For what constructive purpose can these things possibly be used for. People are so stupid. First to invent them and secondly to go out and buy them.

You want to get for what you work for, this is only natural. If you are paid the same for being a doctor as you would for being a farmer or a pencil pusher, obviously you are not going to work as hard. This is not greed, this is wanting fairness. I agree that Marxism in its true form in a society would be perfect, but perfection is not possible.

If we were taught that it would be for the good of society (which it would be), over time we wouldn't care. Humans are like dogs-teach something to us for long enough and we will obey. But, problems arise, and as you said, perfection is not possible.
Is it bad then when I hear Marxism I think of those sniper games in arcades?
