just to clarify, why do you trust the government to the extent that you would gladly allow them monopoly on weapons? an armed man is a citizen, an unarmed man is a subject.
Just so you know you need to quote my post, not yours.

The state is far more trust-worthy then a random person I feel.
I am loyal to and trust the state, the state works for the benefit of the country.
The individual nearly all the time works for their own benefit.

Trust me, if the state collapsed and your country turned into an anarchist country I can gaurantee you that all the people with guns wont be as friendly as they are now.
Sorry bud, but I gotta side with Locke here. What if the government is extremely corrupt?

No wait, let me start again.

What if the corrupt government bans guns, and later, or if they already have, make the system one-party and enforce their rule with the military by giving all of the soldiers benefits such as increased pay and not having to work in the slave factories? Unlikely, I'll admit, but better safe than sorry.

why the knee jerk report for a casual aside in a conversation, purely out of inteterest?
You broke two basic tenets with your initial post:
- insulted another member
- made a low-content post
So yeah, valid reasons to report it.

Neat!

...But scary!

I'd love to see one of these in use behind the safety of the internet, but I wouldn't dare possessing one!

I wonder how similar it is to a lightsaber though. How would they be able to make a tip? From what I understand a laser is something that does not end unless stopped by material that's resilient enough.

I wish I could understand your trust in "The State" I think recent events (in britain at least) have shown us that our elected representatives are just as crooked, self serving, and - frankly - a fair bit more criminal than the rest of us. I simply think that the state should be viewed as what it is, a collection of individuals out for their own benefit. also just realised that might sound a little objectivist, I am not an Objectivist, I am a realist.
Not all politicians are corrupt.
The ones that are still have to work so they don't get caught out anyway.
I'm not arguing that its corruption, simply human nature. They are all out for themselves, as are just about everyone I have ever met in my day to day life. I just find it rather bizzare that we are supposed to follow any order from the government as if they are some sort of collection of Gods, throwing down prophecies from mount olympus. speaking very generally I do not agree with the government in my countries actions, and I find it starting to ring a little hollow that just because someone has the letters MP after his or her name that this means they are some form of superhuman compassion/responsibility machine. They are self interested hairless apes, just like the rest of us.

Least now when the tard who picked up a laser pointer and first thing is shine it in someones eyes and proclaimed "It's not gonna blind them." oh course ignoring scientists and doctors who studied it. When they injure someone, I encourage anyone near said stupid person to beat the f outa them.

Cause you know when tards get a hold of something like this....they do so with the intent of harming others.

And god knows how many animals are gonna be killed and injured with it to some tards giggling glee.

BAH.
Lightsabres clearly use some sort of contained plasma, not laser light. I could hardly call this a 'real' lightsabre.

last time I checked, the government wasn't kicking down our doors and messing with our shit like a tyrannical king.

Besides, it seems most of the people in my area who own guns, are the people I would least trust with scissors let alone a firearm.

just wait til a f*cktard points one at a plane and blinds a pilot, bringing down a jet airliner.
you can actually use a blu ray laser to pop balloons if you focus it with some magnifying glasses (some claim you can do it with just the laser but I dont know about that)

Bad time to be a cat - I'm sure some prats are going to be hunting plenty of innocent animals with these things. And yes, I think it's time for a laser license :S I certainly don't want to have to be in constant fear of instant blindness - getting shot is enough of a danger as it is :/

That's kind of awesome, but now I really can see this being used to point at aircraft. It's already pretty common for police and ambulance helicopters to get lasers flashing at them, whilst it might not be as lethal as the scary report makes out I bet it would be much more of a problem than the pocket and disco lasers they get lit up with at the moment.

This will be banned.

If one is actually legally obtained and used in the UK I'll eat my own shoes.

Just so you know I am authoritarian.
I believe the majority is unfit to govern itself through democracy.
I think the country should be run by a capable minority.

Politicians are more experienced then you in how a country is run.
People love to give politicians shit for being slow to get things done or whatever but they do not realise that there is stuff like red-tape, trying to get the funding etc that politicians have to go through to get things done.

I disagree with you, I think there are plenty of politicians out there that truly care about their nation and want to serve it.
then, from my perspective at least, we appear to be at something of an ideological impasse. whilst I may disagree with certain aspects of "democracy" as we like to call our current system (I would argue that modern representative democracy like we have in UK or most other western countries is not truly democratic) I do not trust others with control over me and mine. also, purely out of interest, are you by any chance a politician? its just that I have yet to meet an authoritarian who did not consider themselves part of this small ruling elite.

Laser beams don't scatter like a torch they stay collimated over pretty large distances, it's the collimation that makes them so dangerous. Think about it, a light bulb is rated at about 50-60 Watts. Also, the wavelength of the laser in question is a particularly dangerous one as it's absorbed more readily into the skin or retinal tissue. A few milliseconds exposure to even a diffuse reflection (like off a wall) of the beam would cause instant and irreversible eye damage. As for burning skin it would take less than a second even at, say, 20 feet.
