Hmmm $455 not bad for what it promises to do. I would want to know if it was water-proof or water resistant at the very least.

To everyone talking about using these in the military, do you really think that no one has thought of that before these diodes have become available to the consumer market? Any weapon which had the potential to instantly blind enemies would be in SERIOUS violation of the Geneva convention. To put it in layman's terms, any weapon which can cause a permanent disability would be controversial to say the least. Think of mines, gas, etc. all banned.

If you want to know about lasers being used in military applications then lasers like this but maybe of half the power or so are used in various ways to illuminate targets (airstrikes, machine gun on an aircraft). More interestingly, flickering green lasers are being applied to hostage situations because the frequency of the strobe effect causes disorientation to a target without the risk of serious injury (kinda like the strobe light from Kick-Ass). The reason it's not so "burny" is because it's a diffuse beam but the power output is probably similar.

pansy
just to clarify, why do you trust the government to the extent that you would gladly allow them monopoly on weapons? an armed man is a citizen, an unarmed man is a subject.
Just so you know you need to quote my post, not yours.

The state is far more trust-worthy then a random person I feel.
I am loyal to and trust the state, the state works for the benefit of the country.
The individual nearly all the time works for their own benefit.

Trust me, if the state collapsed and your country turned into an anarchist country I can gaurantee you that all the people with guns wont be as friendly as they are now.
I wish I could understand your trust in "The State" I think recent events (in britain at least) have shown us that our elected representatives are just as crooked, self serving, and - frankly - a fair bit more criminal than the rest of us. I simply think that the state should be viewed as what it is, a collection of individuals out for their own benefit. also just realised that might sound a little objectivist, I am not an Objectivist, I am a realist.
Not all politicians are corrupt.
The ones that are still have to work so they don't get caught out anyway.
I'm not arguing that its corruption, simply human nature. They are all out for themselves, as are just about everyone I have ever met in my day to day life. I just find it rather bizzare that we are supposed to follow any order from the government as if they are some sort of collection of Gods, throwing down prophecies from mount olympus. speaking very generally I do not agree with the government in my countries actions, and I find it starting to ring a little hollow that just because someone has the letters MP after his or her name that this means they are some form of superhuman compassion/responsibility machine. They are self interested hairless apes, just like the rest of us.
Just so you know I am authoritarian.
I believe the majority is unfit to govern itself through democracy.
I think the country should be run by a capable minority.

Politicians are more experienced then you in how a country is run.
People love to give politicians shit for being slow to get things done or whatever but they do not realise that there is stuff like red-tape, trying to get the funding etc that politicians have to go through to get things done.

I disagree with you, I think there are plenty of politicians out there that truly care about their nation and want to serve it.
then, from my perspective at least, we appear to be at something of an ideological impasse. whilst I may disagree with certain aspects of "democracy" as we like to call our current system (I would argue that modern representative democracy like we have in UK or most other western countries is not truly democratic) I do not trust others with control over me and mine. also, purely out of interest, are you by any chance a politician? its just that I have yet to meet an authoritarian who did not consider themselves part of this small ruling elite.
No I am not a politician.
Also pure democracy would not work in modern times which is why we have republics now.
I believe that is simply because we have allowed this world to become overpopulated. put simply we are running out of floor space, and I do not particularly envy our descendants. I know that there is the joke that each generation leaves the world more messed up than when they found it, but i think that is rapidly losing its humour.

This is hardly a lightsaber. It's more akin to an early beam rifle. Interesting, but I don't actually believe that this laser is all that powerful. Until I see a video of this thing actually "instantly and set fire to flesh" I won't believe it either. Lasers that powerful normally are reserved for industrial work and they are the size of a computer from the mid 1960s. They can claim it can do all this, but I want proof.

CANCERMAN AWWWWAAAAYYYYYYYYY hope your costume consists of a lead apron and welders mask.

On point not to be a buzz kill but this is seriously fucking stupid your essentialy giving people a superheated beam that emits small doses of radiation, want to blind, burn or end up in hospital fine but you just know some robe wearing nerd is going to go out into public throwing around one of these things and causing a shitload of harm to passersbye. Ugh and of all places to sell them the fucking internet? Why not just walk into a school for the mentally handicapped or an asylum.

just a question:

what if a group of people, lets call them "terrorists", will each buy this device, go into a place filled with people, and just go nuts?
shit hits the fan, i presume?

EDIT: since somebody has to say it: the future is here... and its fucking stupid
Said terrorists would be the laughing stock of the world, what with the existence of, you know, guns. Pretty sure they will go for the guns over the short range, non-lethal weapon they can pick up at the local market for 2 chickens, and require hitting a target the size of a dime instead of a person, not to mention they can be completely neutralized by...you know...glasses.

No, bad idea, someones gonna get dead, i know it. Also, why have we not weopnised this yet and made use of it in the warzone.
It's a funny idea, but honestly, it wouldn't work. It would be the least lethal weapon in an army's arsenal, a Flashbang would be infinitely more effective and not cause permanent damage, it would give away the persons position, not to mention the laser wouldn't actually neutralize anyone: Just piss them off, or decrease there effectiveness assuming you hit both eyes. There's no reason not to use a beanbag round, tazer, pepper-ball, etc etc etc instead.

I think its funny that they don't ship to America, the place which has actual guns.

Distribution of this item to the general public as well as possession of one without a special weapons permit or industrial-grade license needs to be made punishable with prison time. People who say they want this as a Star Wars toy or any other ridiculous reason should get an immediate reality check... this thing is not a toy. The existence of this thing is bad enough already, but the low price is the cyanide icing on the cake.
I am fucking scared by this news, let me make that perfectly clear. Instant and permanent loss of eyesight. Infliction of high-grade burns. Highly likely formation of cancerous tissue.
People, wake the fuck up. This is anything but awesome. This is terrible, and I am severely frightened at the prospect of the things that could happen if this item were to fall into the hands of irresponsible dickwads or, God forbid, a person with truly murderous intent.
As much as I like the idea of lightsabers, I have to completely agree with this comment. I seriously hope they not only recall every single one of these devices, but seriously fine, or even arrest, the distributors of this laser. To sell this to the general public is practically the same as selling mini nukes to the general public, without the radiation. You might as well be saying you want the world to kill itself.
