*Ahem* Here is my interpretation of most of the people in this thread, "Oh no, brand new technology that is dangerous! I'm sooo scared!" People, technology is advancing, and this is both a good and bad thing. It means that some people are getting smarter, but with the vast amount of stupid people in the world, this new tech is dangerous. Stupid people ruin everything, and I can imagine a day not long from now when weaponized lazer or plasma projectiles will be available for home defense or military use, and some idiot is going to misuse it and get the technology restricted, banned, or completely destroyed.

I say the company should have a mandaroty IQ test, safety comprehension test, and mandatory agreement that if you let any uncertified person use this, you are subject to jailtime and a large fine. This way only smart people, that will (most likely) only use this as a mantlepiece or for industrial purposes, will be able to own and operate this. I don't think this thing should be banned altogether, but I do think that only smart, responisble people should be able to use this.

NOTE:Feel free to point out any flaws in my thinking or grammar so I can rewrite this and phrase it better, I am not good at portraying my feelings completely through words.

pansy
just to clarify, why do you trust the government to the extent that you would gladly allow them monopoly on weapons? an armed man is a citizen, an unarmed man is a subject.
Just so you know you need to quote my post, not yours.

The state is far more trust-worthy then a random person I feel.
I am loyal to and trust the state, the state works for the benefit of the country.
The individual nearly all the time works for their own benefit.

Trust me, if the state collapsed and your country turned into an anarchist country I can gaurantee you that all the people with guns wont be as friendly as they are now.
You realize this "state" which you speak of is actually just a collection of individuals, each working for his/her own benefit? The more power these individuals receive, the more important it becomes to them to protect that advantage by any means necessary. Your government may seem fun and cuddly now, but that's not a guarantee personal security forever.

That said, I completely agree that this is a ridiculous product because, if the advertising is true, it can potentially be more dangerous than a firearm but easier to obtain and conceal... I hope it's banned sooner rather than later.

GIEF NAU, I was expecting it to cost shit tons, but £135? Im going out to be a "Kickass" style superhero.
CANCERMAN AWWWWAAAAYYYYYYYYY hope your costume consists of a lead apron and welders mask.

On point not to be a buzz kill but this is seriously fucking stupid your essentialy giving people a superheated beam that emits small doses of radiation, want to blind, burn or end up in hospital fine but you just know some robe wearing nerd is going to go out into public throwing around one of these things and causing a shitload of harm to passersbye. Ugh and of all places to sell them the fucking internet? Why not just walk into a school for the mentally handicapped or an asylum.
Dont ruin my dreams :( Besides I could always make a costume that has mirrored goggles in it...the lead part I'm not sure about...I'll think of something...what would batman do?

its amazing the amount of people who comment after only reading the title of the thread...

its not a real lightsaber, its just a powerful laser pointer which have been around for ages now...its nothing to get worried or excited about.

Oh dear god. This is not going to end well.

I can see the headlines now, hundreds dead as they blind themselves with their own lightsabres.

Sheezus. Slap that under your rifle for anyone breakin' in. People say flashlights make you a target, I think that would do a little more.

Oh, hey! Take THAT Gears of War! I've got a LASER BAYONET.

You can take away my right to protect my property, family, and free speech out of my cold, dead hands.
Oh I would gladly do that, don't you worry.
Then you take pleasure in the act of ending someone's life? I have seeing trouble how this makes you much better than people who want guns in order to protect themselves and their ways of life.

Changed that for you. Much better.

Really think if the government wanted you dead a shotgun would make any difference? And why do people always use that additive last time I checked a gun is not speech, if they start banning or editing your litterature or tapping your phonecalls sure *cough texas schoolboard republicans cough*
A shotgun would certainly make a difference once the rest of the citizenship starts to rise up and every possible gun would be needed. Demented Teddy is talking about an Authoritarian system of government, essentially a dictatorship. The populace will not permit such a government to be formed willingly, which means that secret police and censorship will be instated in order to control them. My free speech will be infringed upon in that context, and I'll be damned if I give it up without a fight. And who the fuck are you to tell me I can't defend my home from looters or robbers or murderers? Please, inform me, god-being; for you must be so important that you can tell me what I can and cannot do with my hard-earned money.

At first I thought "Ho ho! What sort of whimsical device has science created? Perhaps a visible beam on a lightsaber toy? How cute!"

After reading it I think: "What the hell are these people thinking? Do they honestly think marketing this thing to the public is a good idea?"

It would be more awesome if it was more like a lightsaber. For now, I don't think these should be sold to the public. Something bad is going to happen with this, I can feel it.

am I the only one who would buy this simply to make instant toast while slicing bread?
Mmmm... SuperToast.. I can taste the cancer already..

I'd buy one. That way, some asshat comes into my house with a gun, BAM! He's a fucking severed pile of limbs and tumors.

Even if he gets away, the leukemia would kill him.

But I wonder, is there a limit to the laser itself? Like it would be an actual blade-like shape?

Considering the idiots I have a great misfortune to know and be around regularly, and considering the fact that almost all of them will have an extra $200 lying around for nothing in particular, and considering how much they all love Star Wars, I have to say I am seriously afraid for my life of this thing. To quote a fitting source, Do Not Want.

Ummm no its not the most dangerous laser ever created. The USAF has one that can cut through steel, from MILES away...while strapped to an airplane.

Distribution of this item to the general public as well as possession of one without a special weapons permit or industrial-grade license needs to be made punishable with prison time. People who say they want this as a Star Wars toy or any other ridiculous reason should get an immediate reality check... this thing is not a toy. The existence of this thing is bad enough already, but the low price is the cyanide icing on the cake.
I am fucking scared by this news, let me make that perfectly clear. Instant and permanent loss of eyesight. Infliction of high-grade burns. Highly likely formation of cancerous tissue.
People, wake the fuck up. This is anything but awesome. This is terrible, and I am severely frightened at the prospect of the things that could happen if this item were to fall into the hands of irresponsible dickwads or, God forbid, a person with truly murderous intent.
I totally agree with you, but on a more primal and illogical note, the human race has invented the lightsabre...... EPIC

Yet another weapon for humanities eager hands. I expect to see illegal copies on sale via the interweb in a few years.

It's bull. The ligthsaber is a fake. Something like that can't even be made. Seriously, how big do you think the battery has to be? There is no why to get that much power. Besides, even if you could make a ligthsaber with a battery powerful enough to power it and small enough to fit in the handle, it will cost much more then $200.

If you believe that this saber is real, you are a fool.
