*hacks up arbitrary list and recommended sites*
I'm not a supporter of fansbubs since it doesn't support the creator/industry. I cannot recommend this site enough, especially in their always bargain bargain bins. You can even just buy the first disc if you want, and if you don't like it, give it away and don't get the rest. And you're out as little as $3.00. Not a big cry.
*bows down to....*
RIGHT STUF INC. (yes, it's spelled with one "F")

As for my fave series/current interests:
Neon Genesis Evangelion (oldie, but mindfuckery goodie)
FLCL, aka Furi Kurki, aka Fooly Cooly aka WIN! Probably my all time favorite series evar
Elfen Lied
Azumanga Daioh (yes, it's cute, and fairly kid-friendly, but it's got enough cultural references and great characters to more than make up for its lack of tits and blood)
Record of Lodoss Wars (older series, but pretty music and great DnD type high fantasy storytelling)
Excel Saga (keep going with it, last episode is a riot!)
Cowboy Bebop (what else can be said..it's Cowboy freakin Bebop, jeez)
Death Note (mmm...Death note. I'm getting vol 9 today)
Petshop of Horrors (manga's better, but series is worth a short OAV check out if you just want a taste)
Kinos Journey (started watching this one..it's slow, but good. Like hot chunky soup on a cold day type good, not like chocolate covered Johnny Depp at your front door good)
Hellsing and Hellsing Ultimate (anime vampires = awesome always..well, except maybe for the series Nightwalker, Midnight Detective, but it's so awful my friend and I had a good time making fun of it, so I guess that's still win)
Tekkonkinkreet (great little under appreciated movie gem. I borrowed my copy from the library and liked it alot)

For reviews, search anime by title, distributor, genre, etc. etc. Some reviews are better written than others, but it's still a good site for browsing.
