I teared up a little at the end of Cowboy Bebop when Spike died and that really sad song played.
im really glad someone else mentioned that, the last two episodes of that series were quite simply breathtaking, the pacing and score were incredible. And the absolutely perfect delivery of "bang" as Spike slumps to the steps is incredible. That moment was about a 1,000 times more powerful than Maximus Meriidiuis Desimus Father of murdered wife.....wah wah wahhhhs ridiculously long death

See you next time space cowboy

The finale of Blackadder Goes Forth.

I was only 9 when this was first broadcast, and despite knowing the basics of World War 1, really drove home the horror and futility of that war.

It also messed with my head and pulled my heart strings, I couldn't comprehend how such a great comedy could end with such tragedy, and why they would kill off such likeable characters, such as Baldrick and George.

It was only when I was older that I could fully understand appreciate that masterpiece.

The death of Victor Meldrew comes a close second, I think that tragedy at the end of comedy is much more powerful than tragedy alone.

I think every season of 24 has it's sad moments.

But the clear winner for me is Dexter

Dexter finally marries his girlfriend, Rita, and moves in with her, and they start to bring up their family. Throughout series 4, he goes about tracking down a new serial killer (called Trinity), culminating in the killers death in the final episode. Right before he finishes him, Trinity tells Dexter it's already over.

Dexter then goes home to find Rita murdered in the bath in the same style as Trinity's other victims, with their newborn son sitting crying on the blood-covered floor.

Now this was sad in itself, but I think the saddest moment is when you watch the episode again, and notice the sadness in Trinity's eyes as he tries to tell Dexter that he's already murdered his wife with his final words ...

I didn't cry, but it was one of those moments that just sucked the energy out of me.
Yeah, agreed there. That episode is sad. I liked Rita, she made some of the situations more tense, like when she started gettin suspicious at Dexter constantly being away.

This is the one that always gets me. Jimmy Stewart reading a poem about his dog on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

The finale of Blackadder Goes Forth.

I had a feeling this would show up. The best British Comedy sitcom of all time, and the first time that Blackadder showed true heroism.

Hell, that entire episode is brilliant, but the ending is devastating.

/thread, nothing will ever top this episode.

I can't name any one moment, but damn, Cold Case hits you hard. I'm pretty sure about half the episodes have made me tear up in the end.
OH no, mister! you just didnt go there, did you?! You just opened the Pandora box of my saddest memories of television.

But among the tearing endings from almost all episodes I can point one without doubt as the saddest of all: Season 1 Episode 8 entitled "Fly away", I can watch it 1000 times and I will cry again.

"Criminal Minds" and "Without a Trace" are also good in putting some tears in the corner of my eyes every now and then.

Side note: Have to say Jerry Bruckheimer is a hell of a producer, specially when you think on top of these (except criminal minds) you still have all the CSI's.

Second post...already got mine. I watched the episodes on DVD KNOWING there would be no more, I was prepared emotionally...but I was still pissed and sad as hell. What a waste.

The last episode of the second season of the British version of The Office is one of the more depressing things I've ever seen. Luckily it all turns around in the Christmas special.

When *spoiler* Wallace got capped by his childhood friends Bodie and Poot, towards the end of the first season of the Wire. Easily the most tragic death in the entire series.

There is only three episodes (on tv) that has made me cry.

Two were from Futurama and one from the Simpsons.

(I know which two Futurama episodes they were. I just forgot which simpsons episode it was. (There are so many). )

Oh and the ending episode of M*A*S*H* with the music band made me cry too.

Y'know, I really didn't want to be the first one to say it seeing as no-one else has, but damnit, the final scene of the final episode of Prison Break Season 4 is the only part of a TV show that's made me cry. I think it's the music that did it for me. Gah...

The Final Break was awful though.

the scrubs episode i think its called my musical where the woman hears everything as a musical and it turns out *spoiler* she has a brain tumor and dies.
Wait, what?

She didn't die.
Uh, yeah. She got better. I think you're thinking of the one with the writer from Cheers. He died.
Yeah, they removed the tumor, the singing stopped but she was sad because she missed the singing.

Heroes.

It started out so good, and it just keeps spiraling into crap. Damn you new writers.
Caitlin! I loved it how Peter was in despair then next episode it was all back to normal. Writers' strike though I guess.

The first series was brilliant with the artist (name?) getting crucified with paint brushes but then it spiralled down a lot as you said.
