The scene in one of the episodes of Avatar where Uncle Iroh is singing about his fallen son. It was used as a memorial to Iroh's voice actor.
that was the saddest moment of the whole show......

I can only think of two episodes in sequential television that have made a sad impression upon me. The first is the ending of Blackadder Goes Forth, which has already been mentioned and I will not speak of it any more.

The second is the episode of M*A*S*H where Henry Blake, a person I greatly admired, who was my favourite character in the entire series and I considered a truly good person, was killed when his plane was shot down over the sea of Japan.

It wasn't so much for the news, as it was possible to portray it in a manner that was less depressing, but the stunned silence of the actors and the feeling of loss just flooded the scene, even further accentuated by the sound of a medical instrument hitting the floor. A very depressing scene.

Lol, my sister still won't see the final episode so she can tell herself that, "It still isn't over."

J.D. left Scrubs. Now the show is pointless.

That's pretty sad.

But Futurama's coming back, so I still have reason to keep my TV... beyond a display for my Xbox.

Jurassic Bark for me, it was one of those that I just couldn't watch again, made me feel sad.

Another was Avatar: tlA, when Iroh spent the entire episode helping everyone, but then he stood on the hill at the end and left the portrait of his son there, and said "I could not help you." Makes the scene even sadder when you find out that Iroh once tried to conquer that city, but left when he found out his son was killed during that time. The portrait being in the city was very moving.

EDIT: Of course I just read something just a little bit above, but another before I kicked myself from ever watching the show again was Naruto Shippuden, when Naruto was telling Sakura and Kakashi about why he and Gaara were alike. It wasn't that part that got to me, it was the flashbacks that showed Naruto and Gaara both alone, then Naruto suddenly had a few friends, but Gaara was alone. It continued to grow, and Gaara remained alone. It was very depressing.

I think every season of 24 has it's sad moments.

But the clear winner for me is Dexter

Dexter finally marries his girlfriend, Rita, and moves in with her, and they start to bring up their family. Throughout series 4, he goes about tracking down a new serial killer (called Trinity), culminating in the killers death in the final episode. Right before he finishes him, Trinity tells Dexter it's already over.

Dexter then goes home to find Rita murdered in the bath in the same style as Trinity's other victims, with their newborn son sitting crying on the blood-covered floor.

Now this was sad in itself, but I think the saddest moment is when you watch the episode again, and notice the sadness in Trinity's eyes as he tries to tell Dexter that he's already murdered his wife with his final words ...

I didn't cry, but it was one of those moments that just sucked the energy out of me.
i still don't think it was him, because his character has rigid set of rules when it comes to his... victims, and Rita is out of all three
Hmm, I'm not sure. It's a hell of a coincidence if it wasn't him.

Anyway, series 5 is supposed to start at exactly the point that one finished, so we'll miss nothing
really? i remember the producer saying something about progressing a couple years so that we could see the progression of the child

In Code Geass when...
Rolo sacrifices himself to save Lelouch, even after all the mean things Lelouch said to him.
It was so sad that it made me cry.

I've got a couple I can think of;

- The ending of Friends
- Doctor Who, when the Doctor is just stood against the wall with Rose trapped on the other side, tears in his eyes
- The Doctor saying goodbye to Rose on the beach
- David Tennant regenerating :(!
- Ianto being killed in Torchwood: Children Of Earth, Day 4
- Tim Speedle dying after being shot in CSI:Miami, I liked Speed! :(
- Heroes, Noah Bennet shooting Claude in the episode Company Man

my second saddest would be the Stargate SG-1 two parter "Heroes". Unexpected, and emotional. I won't spoil it, but it is very well told, and a different take on the series' usual tone and style.
When you're right, you're right. Or SGA when
Carson dies. :(

End of Dr Who season 2--if you weren't sad at losing her, then you have no soul. And you become extra soulless if David Tennant's departure doesn't eat you alive.

Side note, what is it with the Stargate writers and the odd obsession with killing doctors?

Because everyone likes the doctors.

BTW did you know there's an Escapist Stargate Fan group?

I do now, I suppose. Thanks for the tip. Still doesn't explain their odd fetish with killing them off, or trying to. Jackson, Frasier, Beckett, Rush, Weir...
