I am not going to mention that obviously sad movie by Studio Ghibli, I'm just not gonna.

Instead I'll say, Lilja4ever.

A cookie and a hanky for anyone else who's seen this movie.

The latest of Pixar's are easy answers, but honestly I can't recall any other movies I've found sad. I'm sure there are some that have, I just can't remember them right now.

Blindness.

It was like a constant stream of degredation and despair.

The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford

Beautifully shot, brilliant soundtrack, great character development and so, so bleak.

Grave of the Fireflies: I've only seen this movie ONCE, and its the only movie that I never want to see again since its so sad.

Up: I thought this movie was going to be funny and happy, I thought wrong. DEAD WRONG.

Of Mice and Men: The book is so awesome, but the movie version is exactly how I thought it would be.

Toy Story 3: This movie was the PERFECT end to my childhood, and the one certain "humid" scene broke my disbelief, and truly, made me ask what happens to toys after they die? And the end made me tear up a bit too.
People keep citing Grave of the Fireflies. What happens at the end that is so sad?

I was crying like a baby during Forrest Gump, when he put that letter on the grave that said "MOM".

Well, I would put it into a spoiler tag, but I don't know how to do it.
Spoiler tag is made like this:

[*spoiler]Stuff[/spoiler]

Without the *.

Anyone here see Precious? That's fucking sad as hell
gets raped by dad has a retarded baby and gets aids, then gets abused by her mom who is jealous of Precious for stealing her man. And thats just the tip o' the iceberg

I agree that the beginning montage for UP is very sad, but the most depressing movie I've ever seen is by far Grave of the Fireflies. That thing is cripplingly depressing.
