Fuck yeah!
I welcome you internet police overlords. Burn all these pirates and people who use the web for questionable purposes!
its not just the internet you fool. This entire thing will restrict EVERYTHING. Music, Television shows, any form of genetic engineering, modifications to parts by different companies. YOU are the short sited one. I can see several ways to improve the hydraulic quick disconnect, and even though my great grandfather was the one to sign the patents, if ACTA goes into effect, I can't touch it without the company consent to try and help make it better.
You don't realize that this also effects the drug companies. Generic store-knockoffs will be banned and we will be FORCED to buy expensive, high-price namebrands on EVERYTHING.
*Runs into the room frantic*
"The Consequences Will Never Be The Same! The Sky Is Falling, The Sky Is Falling!"
EDIT: Calling me names helps you get your point across really well btw...
*facedesk* okay look at this from a logisitics point of view. If everything and thier brother copyrights something, whats going to happen to the cheep, still functional nock-off brands like the Kroger or Meyer cereals? They'll disapear and we'll be forced to buy name-brand products at cutthroat prices.
Again, your alarmist interpretation of this is absurd.
-'To counterfeit means to illegally imitate something. Counterfeit products are often produced with the intent to take advantage of the superior value of the imitated product. The word counterfeit frequently describes both the forgeries of currency and documents, as well as the imitations of works of art, toys, clothing, software, pharmaceuticals, watches, electronics and company logos and brands. In the case of goods, it results in patent infringement or trademark infringement. '- wiki
You're all for people who counterfeit? Of course not. If you think all cheaper goods are going to considered 'counterfeit' then I suggest you stock up on tin foil hats too before it's too late.
Lets keep this discussion about the internet. Of course, ACTA does way more, but lets keep it nice and simple, shall we?
How many images do you have on your hard drive? How many of them are pictures of a popular singer, covers of games, the likes? More than 3? Congratulations. You are the lucky winner of several fines, not to mention that it is now illegal for ISPs to service you. You are quite literally banned from accessing the internet on your personal computer.
How many copyrighted songs are there on youtube? How many of these videos can you access in your country? Is there just one? Congratulations, youtube is now shut off and unavailable to you and the rest of the people living in your country.
Theres things in the ACTA that are a lot more alarming, but that should be enough to wake you up. To be frank, if you think this is no big deal, I propose everyone in this thread gives you the money we usually spend on tin foil hats so you can go buy yourself an ounce of common sense.

I refuse to suckered in by your scaremongering! This ACTA shit has been floating around for years now. It has never passed and it never will pass, assuming it is even real and not some tabloid scaremongering bullshit.
Thats the thing though, isnt it? Theres all these scary acts and treaties floating around, and most of them never pass and just linger about a bit before people give up on it, but turn your back for one second and think it will just go away and bang, something like the Lisabon treaty just passed.
I do hope it doesnt pass, and I will work against it where I can, but im not going to spend my days cowered in a corner muttering "Acta... Acta..."
