The Batman: Arkham Asylum bit where your game "freezes" freaked me out.
I think it was that creepy woman's voice on the speaker before it happens. That made it weirder.

OMG when i read the title of the thread, i was thinking about this exact sequence (the first one anyway)! i feel as if my mind has been violated. so since i cant put this one now, i nominate the first time you meet the flood in halo. shut up, i was scared.
It's made me a little obsessed with Scarecrow, like, I really loved Heath Ledger's portrayal of The Joker in TDK (I know, how original am I) But never actaully watched batman begins, had no idea scarecrow was even in it, I'm a bit of a batman noob, but, I absolutely loved the scenes with scarecrow. When you played it, did you go into a room (for the first dream) and have scarecrows voice keep saying "get out" just getting louder and louder until he was like screaming, then go back through the same door you came in from and then have the bodybag scene?
Watch Batman Begins ASAP, it's great. Scarecrow lights Batman on fire and kicks him out of a window. What does The Joker do in TDK? Fuck all.

The very first minute or so of the Netherworld of Minecraft is pretty damn scary, simply because of the noises....

After that it get's a bit tiresome. But man... those initial moments...

One word is enough to sum up what I think is the creepiest game, as well as creepiest moments from any game to ever exist:

"...STARS!"

(no, not Mario)

Not telling, mystery and suspense are powerful contributors in horror :p . If you are interested in playing it then just go straight in, otherwise use the internet.

but not nearly as disturbing as a later level where you break down a death cults doors. Lets just say there's something in the basement which makes you really, really, REALLY want to just gun down every suspect from that point forward. They deserve to die, kill em all!
Ah, you really need to see Spoony's Let's Play of that game.

Especially that Cult level.

Shogo Akuji getting buried alive in Saints Row 2. Christ that made me sweat
That bit was pretty bad, yeah, but the bit I hated was

If you've done it you know exactly what I mean. Red Asphalt. I swear to god I can't adequately emphasise my satisfaction when i saw the trickles of blood coming out of the boot of Jessica's car. Mad *****, I replayed the mission after over and over just so I could repeatedly take her hostage and shoot her fucking face off.

Wow, I'm suprised nobody's mentioned this yet...
Yyyyyyyyyyyep, that whole ending bit.

And regenerators from RE4, nothing worse than watching something get back up after putting 150 SMG rounds into it.

Oh, this thread again.

I stand by my opinion that the entirety of Majora's Mask is the highest grade nightmare fuel you can inflict on a young child.

loads! Films don't scare me but games are great at it! The mansion of madness from Timesplitters FP; also certain bits of the haunted house levels in Gex 3D-namely the red skull-ghosts that can't go into the light. There was a bit where you're standing on a balcony looking at a room heaving with them and you know you have to go down there... that's where I used to just turn the game off as a kid! Pretty much all of Silent Hill 2 (especially the apartments at the start) and the gamecube remake of Resident Evil 1 (I'm talking unease and suspense here, not shock scares or the whole resi series would be in here!). Ravenholm too. But we don't go there anymore...

Several Different moments in the Condemned games. They are possibly the only games to really unnerve me.
I agree. The original Condemned at the school just gave me shivers the entire time. And in the second one, even though it dived in creepiness half way through, at the hospital. Or at least I think it was a hospital with all that black stuff covering everything.

I played Fatal Frame 2 for 10 minutes before I turned it off...

The Regenerators from RE4. I remember going into the room to get the keycard, seeing the parasite attacking the corpse, both of them frozen, and then hearing that what I hoped wasn't 'that thing I was looking at earlier' breaking free. Lo and behold, it was. I was not pleased.

But, nothing is as mentally disturbing and unnerving as Yume Nikki. Yume Nikki, a fantastic game that I refuse to finish until summer vacation due to loss of sleep (I was projecting it into my own reality). Such a great game, so unique, so much fun to be had exploring these strange environments, discovering and interacting with these strange creatures, traversing this young girl's... mind...

Why is she dreaming of this? What traumas could she have endured to conjure up these twisted realities? These twisted creatures? Why does she refuse to leave her home? She's alone, only with her dream journal and her twisted realities there for her. But why?

The game explains nothing. It's all up to personal interpretation, left solely to your imagination. It's incredibly atmospheric, constantly interesting, and always unnerving.

It is the most disturbing game I have ever played.

Hespith's rhyme from Dragon Age: Origins is probably one of the most disturbing things I've seen/heard in a game. She describes what happens to her family after the Darkspawn catch them. They eat the men and then turn one of the other girls into a Broodmother, who eats more of her family. Although it is never specifically stated, the impression I got was that the girl was gang-raped by the Darkspawn, which is what turned her into the Broodmother.

One that got me was when I was 9, I asked my parents for MGS:The Twin Snakes for the Gamecube.
When I got up to Psycho Mantis' room, he told me about how many times I saved, about my Super Mario Sunshine, and I couldn't take him out. That was the first time I have ever been mindf***ed into tears.
