Screw the competitive spirit, I'm tired of multiplayer crap.

Honestly, I'm slightly disturbed by the amount of people on the Escapist who not only claim to be anti-social, but seem almost proud of it.

Anyway, tip to the OP: Play with friends. It doesn't matter how much you usually don't enjoy something, having a large group of friends with you while you do it will make it more fun. Also, get Halo: Reach and fiddle around with Forge and the gametype editor to create some completely insane, hilarious things.

Studies have shown that multiplayer games actually lead to more stress and anxiety usually while single player games reduce said levels.
This is so very true. My GF always knows when I'm playing multiplayer... instead of the usual quiet contented calm of my single player gaming, she hears thumps, guttural growls and swearing :D
Is there any other way to play multiplayer? XD

OT: You don't like multiplayer anymore. Good for you?

I quit last year, its just not a way of challenging yourself constructively imo. Its no more than a distraction that I got bored of. I still game occasionally with friends but thats it.

I know, it's pretty damn weird, and scary.
Also, notice how most forms of multiplayer games (aside from MMO's) seem to be automatically held in contempt by The Escapist community? And RPG's are obviously overall the most popular games to the users of this site. You can guess why.

Anyways, multiplayer is damn fun if you can get into it.

Personally I don't really care about playing with other people most of the time.
I just see it as another gamemode that theres no real reason to not enjoy.

And as I much as I don't like admitting it, (because of the games campaign mode) Halo Reach's multiplayer is pretty damn awesome.

I can't beat the enemy so they must be cheating / glitching?

Yep, I've heard this one before -.-
No, the guy does have a point. Most old FPSs are only played by the die hard fans that have played the game so much they have mastered every bug and glitch. When normal players go back to that game they're spammed with all these glitch users and feel like they've just been shit on by the developers. It happens in most games, the only thing that separates MW2 and Black Ops is that Black Ops has more cannon fodder.

There's anti social... then there's xbox live! it's a generalization both ways yeah but gaming to some is escapism into a story or a world while gaming to others is an online social gathering or a way to let off steam without consequence.

FPS games online with randomers have never been as good as they were in the days of Unreal Tournament, and Unreal 2 XMP.
Since then, well, it's become a case of this -

Being bad at a game makes him a pathetic human?

Huh. Funny, I always thought it was the opposite.
BUUUUUUURN!
(70's show style)

OT: I was never one for Multiplayer, it just gets boring really fast for me.

Also if you couldn't level in Call of Duty games a lot of people would just stop.
A few more steps and it's an MMORPG.

I play to do both. Some people find it hard to believe it's possible to enjoy both multiplayer AND singleplayer, for some reason.

The problem with multiplayer is always finding the right people, even the best game can't counter peoples dickish nature.

I love competition when it is in good spirit, the challenges going up against a human are great, but 9/10 people are just complete a-holes about it and will stop at nothing to spoil everyone's fun.
It really takes alot of time and patience to find a good group so I can see why people give up.

I just don't like multiplayer for the majority of people on there. I'd like to play a game with respectful people or, God forbid, competent teammates. They're always just going for themselves or are some sort of junkie.

Sometimes its that 5% that its actually your team. Because its never your fault, must be lag or faulty controller.

But there are some kids who like to grief, had that happen to me last night. I still trounced the other team though. Thank God for the tank on Boneyard.

Quickscoping and Akimbo 1887s are not glitches, they are part of the game.
Quickscoping is more of an aim assist exploit on the console versions than a glitch or part of the game, if someone does it on the PC version then fair game to them, they actually are skilled, not just abusing the aim assist put in to help people who are using the much less accurate analog sticks. And the 1887's were just plain overpowered until the double nerfing.

I find that Black ops is actually quite fun when played with the right people. I'm a semi-regular with a clan, we all get on and have a laugh. The admins are pretty fair, they hand out warnings before they start kicking, unless of course it's something that deserves an immediate kick.

We're all on Teamspeak while we play and have some nice banter going on. One of the best experiences I've ever had while gaming online.

Yeah, having time for friends and family clearly makes you pathetic. If you want to join the species in earnest, you have to give up everything except the game and learn to master it.
