I'm going to recieve a neat $500 soon and thought now may be the time to invest in a PS3. I have every other console, but am feeling this hole in my collection. The problem is I don't feel as depressed by this predicament as I thought I would when it first hit the shelves. I'm yet to see a PS3 exclusive that demands I own the console, but then I thought perhaps I'm not trying hard enough.

I enjoy JRPGs and adventure games. From the get go I always said I'd get a PS3 when Tekken 6 and FFXIII came out, but as we know, fate, good marketing and a grab for cash stepped in to ensure my 360 would play them. The only thing it has going for it now is Versus XIII, and who knows when that'll be released.

So, if you love the PS3, tell me why someone like me should own one, with emphasis on the awesome games I am yet to trip over.
Don't spend the cash on a PS3. Save it for the future or put it towards a car, or if you have a car buy some alloys, give it a full service etc. $500 dollars is a lot of money and to blow it on something that will duplicate the function of a 360 80% of the time just seems like madness.

He hit the nail on the head. If you need a bunch of strangers to convince you to buy something, and you already own something very similar to it, I'd just spend it on 360 games, upgrading your PC (really not that expensive) or just spend it all on one heroin fueled night with hookers.

PS3's a good system. My brother bought one for Demon's Souls and now his 360 just collects dust.

Demon's Souls
Wipeout HD+Fury
Little Big Planet
Uncharted
Super Stardust HD
Castlevania:Symphony of the Night (PS1)
PSN games like Comet Crash, PixelJunk stuff
Better media server/device/storage compatibility (except the MS Zune lololololol)
Better UI

PS3 is just starting to become a good system.... since you already have the 360 you can get your multi-platform titles for it, but it would really depend on whether you want a Blu-Ray player or whether you already have one.

PS3 will have some good exclusives coming in the next year, but so will the 360, so it depends on what type of games you like to play... here's a list of what's coming for each that's considered to be big:

PS3:

God of War 3
White Knight Chronicles
Heavy Rain
MAG

360:

Mass Effect 2
Alan Wake
Halo: Reach
Splinter Cell: Conviction

I'm sure there are more, but you get the gist of it... Also, have you played anything on the new PS3? Maybe you should demo it somewhere, because many people don't like the controllers / prefer the 360 controllers... so I wouldn't recommend getting a system you can't play cuz the controller hurts your hands... (like they do mine, but I have massive hands).

Also, to the poster who says PSN is free for life... you may want to knock on wood... as Sony's been talking about creating a premium version that comes with a subscription cost for a while now.

I don't have a PS3, but Heavy Rain looks damn good.

It seems a bit of a waste though, not because the PS3 is bad or anything, but because you already own a 360, and while they are different, it's a bit much to own both.

Perhaps you should save the money for buying games in the future?
Tell that to Blue22

He has an XBOX 360, Wii, Gamecube, PS3, PS2, PC and a DS

Overkill, much?

Yeah I heard that and it really irks me.
If Sony does that, then you can count on me to stop playing anything online (unless there is still a free component), and Sony will have to step up its own online game.
It's quite admirable that Sony wanted to try and keep it free, especially when their consoles used to cost and arm and a leg, but now that they've lowered the price of the unit, and they have more units sold, I think they're doing themselves a disservice by trying to keep the online free, even though it pales in comparison to LIVE... granted, it's Sony's first kick at the can with this type of thing while MS had previous practice with LIVE on the original XBox and learned from their mistakes.

I have always been in the camp that if you can afford a $300 gaming system, you can afford $5 a month if you want the online service. As Blizzard and MS are proving, people will pay for it. It's not like Sony would experience a revolution if they did it.

If I didn't already have a PS3 (mine is backwards compatable, YAY ME), I'd get one just so I could play Heavy Rain. That game actually looks that good.
Agreed.

Also, you have the best avatar EVAR!

Thanks. Believe it or not, this one is a standard badge under the Avatar selection "Legend of Zelda"

500? Buy a gaming computer, I got mine for less then that and it runs crysis on decent graphics.
Thta's the thing though about gaming PC's. In order to play the most recent and mind boggling games with optimum graphics, you need to keep upgrading. I like the PS3. It's easy to use, there's no membership fee to play online, no upgraeds are necessary except for software updates which, if you don't have an internet connection for your PS3, can be downloaded off the platstation website with ease(It can be faster to download the updates this way as for some reason the connection slows down at points). The games are varied across a number of platforms and it has Uncharted and MGS4. There's also the fact that it acts as a blu-ray player and you can play downloaded movies and TV on it if you download the DivX update for it.

Honestly you're better off just using the money to buy more 360 games. There aren't a lot of PS3 exclusives that are system sellers or don't have a comparable 360 game, and for the games that are released on both (which most are anyways), they're usually either equal or generally better on the 360 (although this trend is starting to change.)

I own all 3 systems and I basically had to implement an affirmative action plan in order to get my PS3 to do something other than try and cure cancer and suck up power. If all you care about is gaming, the 360 should suit you fine. Also, don't forget that the XBL Arcade is much more robust than the Sony Marketplace and that there are some exclusives there as well.

SOTN is also on the 360, and actually came out first for it.
