It's funny, because I'm usually really anal about that!
No one must ever know...

(I also forgot to put an apostrophe on "'cos" and capitilised "did" when i shouldn't, and if anyone else points that out, I'm a gonna kill you slowly.)
/Fingerguns.

Also, I literally facepalmed when I saw that I did that, thanks a lot!

I think mine give pretty good advice most of the time. But they didn't want me to take up boxing. I can see where they're coming from, but I'm loving it.

"Buy shares in Cadburys, tell everyone else to buy shares, we can't let those DAMN DIRTY COLONIALS get their hands on THE LAST GREAT BRITISH INSTITUTION OH GOD THIS COUNTRY IS GOING TO HELL"

Great plan. Yeah, I have $20 billion to spare...

my parent's advice is pretty much good, usually the older you are, the more you respect you're parents.

My ma's single piece of advice - don't settle. What she means is don't make the mistake she did, in marrying for the sake of not being alone than waiting for your soulmate. Niice, huh?

Wait, let me get this straight.

You believe your mother's advice to be crap, but are on THIS website seeking intelligent advice on whether or not your mother is full of crap?

Lacking any evidence of said cheating other than anecdotal, I'm going to side with your mom on this one.

But then again, I'm just text on a screen with a guy making an o-face off to one side. What do I know about you, your history of relationships, or your mother?

second of all-
my aunt once told me to clean my metalware with ketchup.... which seemed odd, except it actually works.

My parents really didn't want me to play DnD as a kid, but didn't seem to mind me playing Vampire: The Masquerade....

I broke up with my boyfriend monday because he cheated one me..
Was that the bloke you were going to dress up for?
yes unfortuneately
Ouch, what a dick.
Even if he didn't know, but still.
Anyway, your mum was pretty dumb, but she had her reasons, and maybe she didn't know he cheated on you, don't be too hard on her.
Parents give really dumb advice, but thinking back, a lot of the advice my parents gave me was well reasoned, it just mostly didn't fit the situation or the person. For example, my mum always said that I should just ignore bullies, if I got bullied (I didn't, much, just a bunch of passive agressive bull, with a few dumbass threats) but I didn't ignore them, I just didn't give them the reaction they wanted, I just smiled and said something condescending.
So she was partly right, I shouldn't let them affect me, but If I said nothing, then they might have tried to get my attention "another way"

Anyway, for those of you not used to reading long posts, a tl;dr version of this you lazy, lazy person:
Parents give advice that doesn't fit with the situation, but you should pay attention to it mostly, and adapt it.

If he cheated on you, then forget him.
Normally I'd say listen to your parents, but in this case, don't.

As for advice my parents gave me, well my dad told me never to marry, but he just divorced my mom when he said that so... yeah.

She never asked for your relationship advise.

So i was wondering if any of you have ever gotten strange advice from your parents
That was the question, read the OP.

OT: No my mother doesn't really give me advice any more as I've moved out, but I never really went to my parents for help ever when I was a kid, kind of just stuck together with my friends and worked stuff out. Apparently she gave me a sex talk but I don't remember it, I wish I did because I'd reckon that would be worth mentioning here.

My mom's official 'sex-related' advice was to 'tie a knot in it', and by it, she meant my tallywahcker.

Gee... seems like it might ruin the mood, just a little.
Hahaha... (oh and i love your avatar image, i love that "everyone else has had more sex then me video so much on you tube, its so funny!)

OT: Well when my mum was alive, which was only this week, she was helping me with figuring out what it would be like living alone... and when i said my 4 month boyfriend was gonna live with me, she was actually ok with the idea.

Which was unusual because normally she would tell me he was probably using me or cheating and things, and now she was happy for me to live with him... WTF?

I get odd little letters from my dad every now and then on a subject that I suspect is supposed to be manhood. Most of the advice is actually good, but there's a wtf moment here and there.

I keep them on file at home. If this thread is still reasonably active when I next head back (either tomorrow or next weekend) I might post a few of the more unusual snippets.

Also, from Christmas Break, when I was back home: I had a sort of afro, and I'd shake it out sometimes to get it to fall the way I wanted it to. Mom: "Don't shake your head like that, you'll hurt your brain."
