Well... At least they found him... I have a very low opinion on Paedophiles. Well not necessarily Paedophiles... I feel sorry for some. It's a lot like Homosexuality and Heterosexuality in that you can't help it. Your just attracted to that type of thing. Not your fault really. However my beef is with those who act upon it.

Some hold back there urges to touch children and for those I think they deserve to be left alone . However for those that act upon those urges... Yeah, your low in my opinion and should be kept away from society.

Though I guess the kid here is partially to blame. He could always have said no. I guess we ought to thank him though... If it wasn't for him doing something as stupid as this... They'd be one less Paedo in jail.

I blame the video games.

But this is sick on both parts. One being that the guy would do something like that and also the fact that the kid actually went along for nothing more than Microsoft points... jeeze, it's really kind of sad.

Wow. I used to think the Escapist's members were some of the most liberal people on the internet, but find one example of a youth who uses a right we all assume he doesn't have (the right to be naked and/or show other people) and suddenly it's DEATH PENALTY TIME.

Seriously people, yes the guy took advantage of the kid, but just because the guy is a sleeze ball doesn't mean the kid didn't take off his own clothes and take his own pictures. People who act like youth makes someone into a mindless victim are patronizing at best. The guy's crime is to talk a kid into doing something stupid to please the adult's fetish, but that simply does not equate to rape. The psychological impact involved is entirely different and shouldn't simply be assumed to be the same because it makes you feel better to think of the kid as a helpless beaten and abused puppy.

People like him have always existed and always will. This is a failure on the part of the parents for not teaching their child properly, and a failure on the part of the public, yes that includes most of you, for overreacting. It's bad but it's not the kind of earth shattering destruction you guys seem to think it is.
The constant supply of contradictions on the Escapist are hilarious. Although the kid willingly did it, however, doesn't make the story any less sick...

Why is everyone calling for his blood? He committed a crime, he's going to punished in jail for what will probably be 7-10 years. Seems like a suitable punishment for that crime, plus he'll be flagged as a sex offender after his sentence, and won't be able to commit the crime as easily, or at all if prison has hopefully reformed him.

First of all, that's terrible. Throw the guy away and never let him out.

Second of all, this sucks for gaming. The media will of course jump on this and claim that gaming is some evil thing, of course ignoring the undeniable and obvious fact that the kid could and should have said no. That's the thing about all these scares about online predators; very rarely can they get any more information than you willingly give them. This is the fault of the man and the kid; Xbox Live shares absolutely none of the blame.

That's horrible. But I find it strange that the kid didn't find it weird that the man asked him for nude pictures.
The kid saw that MS raised the price for xbox live, so he decided to stock up on some points later on.

OT: This guy will last 5 days tops

Convincing a kid to do something stupid to himself for payment is not the same as forcefully having sex with him. I presume this issue is too emotional for many to not want to go berserk on the guy, but we can admit this much at least, yes? One is using a youth's lack of experience to gain consent, the other is flatly ignoring consent altogether. The psychological impact is not remotely the same and thus the punishment shouldn't be either. This guy is a pervert and he did do something wrong, but saying that his actions are exactly as bad as what the "bastard" Arella18 described did is like saying that punching somebody in the face is equal to putting them in a full body cast. They're both bad, no question, but they're not equal.

Well, there's sick and then there's sick, isn't there? Taking advantage of another human being is always bad, doing it to a woman or child is often considered sick, but I should think raping or murdering someone should rank higher on the "sick" scale than talking one into basically exposing them-self for payment. More to the point, I disagree with your statement. The fact that the kid willingly did it does make it "less sick" for the exact reason I already said. That doesn't make it right or acceptable by any means, but it does definitely make it fall out of the YOU FUCKING MONSTER category, in my opinion. I think it fits better in the "You pervert" category.

That is pretty twisted.

But if I was in that kid's shoes I would be cool about it. Send nude pictures to some dude I'll never meet for free MS points? Whatever. I'd do it until I had enough cash to buy all that I wanted, and then rat him out. Rock on.

Pedophiles while always find ways around the system if they are determined enough.

Still, its heartening to see the parents at least tried.
I just love how people confuse paedophiles with child molesters.

OT: Well, that's just...wow. I find it odd that a child would do that. oO
I'm certain the guy will get sent to prison.

Pedophiles get picked on in jail, they're the bottom of the barrel even in there, so it'll be fun to imagine this degenerate rotting in a cell.

You think there is a difference big enough? To me they are both sick fucking scum.
The difference is actually rather large. Molesters are definitely scum, as what they do causes a lot of trauma that, in a lot of cases, will last a lifetime. As adults, they know full well it's wrong and socially unacceptable, but they do it anyway.

Paedophiles are sick people too, but just not in the same context of the word. For the most part it is something they cannot help. I know one who is going through therapy to get rid of those urges, that they know full well are wrong. They're an entirely normal person; it's a mental condition, and they do suffer knowing that they're a living sick joke of nature. It's not their fault their brain isn't wired quite right.

Can anyone really say they aren't guilty of thinking about doing something else unacceptable, like murder...? If you say no, you're either a model pacifist, or a liar. And I think we all know how few true pacifists there really are.

Edit: One thing that really sticks in my mind is that, when this person I know told me about their therapy program, they mentioned that "when I talked to my GP first I was afraid they'd call the police and have me put in jail... I've done nothing wrong". That's probably the reason this sort of thing happens sometimes; Paedophiles are so demonized that people who think they are one are too afraid of being criminalized to try to get help... it's hard to imagine that ending well.
