He shakes his head. "No it did not. Not at all..." He runs his hands through is hair. "I just can't....get along with them. I mean I know were on the same team and should be working together, but I just can't!"

Eber stood and looked him over with a sense of approval. He smiled.

"Let us leave before it gets too late--I do not want to be caught."

He walked with Akinari across campus and out of the main gate successfully; the majority of the students didn't seem to mind the tall blonde creeping out for a lunch date. He wondered where to take him, though... There weren't exactly many German restaurants around, but French-style cafes were ubiquitous. He thought he'd remembered seeing one... Ah, yes, it was down the main street and on the left, at the corner.

"You do not mind where we go?"

Yamada stood at the end of class, happy that it'd felt as short as it did after his conversation with Mizushima. He gathered his things and went for his room, getting in a little bit of studying before getting ready for cram school. When he left his room again he looked around hoping to see Seiya on his way to walk with her.

He shook his head. "No, I don't mind. Trying new stuff gives me ideas. Did you already think of a place?" Akinari tried to think of things that were in the area that they could be going to. Not one came to mind, he usually had dinner at home. The only thing that popped up in his mind was grocery and department stores.

Rin glanced nervously at him. She was nervous about asking him something like this sense he seemed upset. "Um Kojiro-san, may I um ask why that is?"

"Mm. I thought perhaps we could sample something a bit closer to European cuisine... I do not know how often you eat it. Come with me, though, I have been here often!"

He clutched at his wrist and pulled him the rest of the way, including crossing the busy intersection, to get to the restaurant. It was small but very cozy, and had a modest assortment of plants hanging on either side of the door to give ambience to the two sidewalk tables in front.

"They will like you, besides."

------

Hikaru was already at the cram school building; she'd slumped into her seat and was one hundred percent unconscious as soon as she'd arrived, head on her notebooks.

"Alri--wa!" It was probably the first time Akinari had been dragged off some place. Usually, the situation happened the opposite way around. Though he truly did not mind. Moreover, it made him more excited to see the place Eber seemed so eager to go. He had no idea a place like it was near by, though he could have sworn he'd walked passed once or twice.

"Who? Who will like me?" Akinari questioned, taking in the aesthetics of the establishment.

Yamada came in a bit disappointed to have come alone. He was a bit startled when he sat down to see the girl asleep, but wasn't sure if he should wake her or not. He set all his things up stalling and trying not to dwell on her sleeping face. When there were only a few minutes before the lecture he reached over and very gently shook her shoulder, concerned. "...Seiya-semmpai?"

When Eber went into the restaurant, he called out to someone in French; the older man who came around the corner fixed the German with a look of instant recognition and the two had an animated conversation in the foreign language for quite a long moment.

He finally gestured to Akinari, said a few more phrases, then added in Japanese: "He is a friend from school, he cooks fantastically--traditional food, however. Aki-kun, please, choose a table."

------

Hikaru shifted when he nudged her, drawing her arms in further around her head with a small noise of protest. This movement causes her hand to abandon her mobile phone, on which a series of ongoing text messages is visible.

Akinari was a bit lost for a moment. 'What...what is he saying? Oh! That's...not Japanese. What is it? It's not English...maybe it's...I dunno. What are they talking about?' He pressed his finger to his temple as if that would help him figure out the language that was being spoken. "Huh-wha? Oh! Er..."

He had an entire process of elimination in his head. 'I'll get too distracted by the window, that area over there is too open, that's too dark..., too close to the door, aaah...' Akinari continued to scan the room. "THERE!" He pointed to a table in a corner nook. "It looks nice!"

Yamada gulps and feels absolutely terrible, but he reasons to himself that he's just picking it up so that he can return it. He knows that's not it and starts reading the apparent texts with far too much interest for his own comfort. He glances at her and back to the screen in his hand again.

Eber chuckled at the boy's pickiness, but found it adorable. When he sat down with him, the other man offered them up menus: they are, thankfully, in Japanese.

"Order whatever you like, Aki-kun, I owe you for all the times you treat me."

------

It's her messages, as you surmised. The name of the sender appears, as well as the content of the message that could fit in the title. You're wary about clicking on any of them in particular. The bell could ring in moments.

The messages appear to be in reverse order, beginning with the most recent.

Code:
Kurado--Have you taken your medicine?
Code:
Hikaru--I don't know what to do... If Mori-sama finds out about the security sys...
Code:
Kurado--You are following your direction. That is all you can do until it...
Code:
Hikaru--I can feel their restlessness. Eleanor says blocking them off could...
Code:
Kurado--I have done what you asked.

His eyes went wide at the messages. It was more than he expected and the final message worried him greatly. He put the phone down in front of her again and tried again to rouse her with just a bit more force. "Seiya-sempai. You have to get up."

"A-alright." He smiled, though as he looked at the menu his smile faded into a very serious expression. He was not upset, everything on the menu was just hard to read even in it's bastardized katakana state he could barely grasp the words. Akinari stared at the item in question for a long time before stumbling over "Ko...Kokeru...Seintto Jyakusu." The most that he could gather was that it was a seafood dish. The French words Coquille St. Jacques were printed above the Japanese text.

Eber grins and only barely keeps from laughing by biting into his lower lip; he hands his menu back after only a moment's hesitation and flawlessly orders the bouillabaisse.

"I do not get the sense that you eat out often, Aki-kun. Ah--not by your ordering, I meant, but by the skill with which you cook."

------

Hikaru woke, quite startled, and looked almost perplexed to find herself in a classroom. "Oh--Yamada. Sorry... Was I dozing off?" She quickly arranged her things as the teacher began to call roll, "Thank you for waking me."

She quickly collected her phone and hid it in her lap.

"Really? Thank you." He beams proudly. "I prefer to cook. I can understand why people become professional chefs. You can make so many people enjoy your hard work. What greater happiness can you think of for a cook? It's so satisfying to hear someone say how much they like it. I like it the most when they don't say a word. You can see it all in their face! They sorta just take a bite and just...just...melt." Akinari made a display of it, his 'melting' more of a silent sigh of content. "I want to be able to do that with every dish I make." He mussed the back of his hair with his hand. "But, I am not that good. I think I focus too hard on the looks and not enough of the taste and I'm talking too much again. D-Do you like going out to eat more?"

He nodded and watched her closely, worried. "It's no problem...Are you sure you should be here tonight? It may be best if you go home to the dorms to rest."

"Is that what you want to do when you graduate? Cook for the masses?" Eber rested his chin in his palm, watching the other boy with interest.

------

"Sorry, Yamada-kun," she smiled in what she hoped was a reassuring manner, "I think I can at least get through this lesson."

Hikaru turned her attention forward as the teacher began his trigonometry lecture. The next two hours passed with the sound of his droning voice. The Student Council secretary spent much of the time texting someone under the desk again, but seemed to keep up with the work nonetheless. When the session ended, she stood.

"See you tomorrow, then."

And she left.

Akinari looked as though he'd never considered it."I think...I really think I do. I guess everyone expects me to go for sports. They're fun but I don't enjoy them nearly as much. My Mom and Dad always tell me to pursue my dreams and I'll be happy. Maybe my dream is becoming a chef?" He looked thoughtful.

Akinari looked to Eber, "What about you? You're really smart. You speak..." he started counting on his fingers. "How many languages? And you're super athletic. What do you want to do?"

"Ah..." Eber leaned back, propping his elbow on the back of his chair, "I have my father's investments to think of. The thing about Akaito High is... Well, I can make many acquaintances with the families of the regions' business owners. To see if the next generation will be as successful as their predecessors."

He smiled slyly, "Sort of makes me sound like a spy, does it not...?"
