Should people stop accusing every game recently made to be a rip off of God of War or Halo?

I wouldn't consider anything ripping off Halo since Halo rips off other franchises to the point that originality does not belong to it.(Seriously if I wanted Sgt Apone aka Sgt Johnson I would play a Aliens Colonial Marines game) And as for God of War I've only seen people say that other hack and slashers were ripoffs of it, but then again what do you expect from a hack and slash genre? Honestly I'm more tempted to buy Dantes Inferno over God Of War 3 simply because I'd like to see this re imagined version of the book.

So to finish it off nicely, no people shouldn't stop crying about games that rip off other games because then you can't single them out in a crowd and demean them for being moronic shit for brains.

To me yahtzee is correct on halo getting copied. What happened to health bars, now I have to sit in a corner waiting for blood to fall off my face( or screen in gears of war).

I think they should be accused where its warranted but it is being a bit over used atm, and it is inevitable that with the number of games out there that some ideas will cross games.

This thread is a rip-off of all of the other "stop calling games rip-offs!" threads.

Honestly? I don't mind how heavily a game borrows from others, provided it doesn't claim to be original without being so. I can accept an almost-absolute clone as long as it's enjoyable.

You have no idea , I was talking to a friend about Chuck and he said it was exactly like Get Smart... he then received a swift kick.

If it is happening yes, they should.
Watch the recent episode of zero punctuation and you'll see.

I think there's nothing wrong with similarities between games as long as it isn't intentional or too similar. A space marine fighting aliens is one thing, but a space marine fighting aliens with gas masks and sqeaky voices might be taking a tad too much from Halo.

Then again, there's practically no such thing as an original game anymore. The industry has put out so many games that there really isn't any way to make a game that doesn't share elements with another. Similarities are unavoidable, especially when the game is played by someone who has been playing for a long time. The best thing you can do is stop loking at something as a rip off of another game and judge the game by it's merits.

That, or troll about it on a forum.

he referenced how the game copied off of GOW literally every 20 seconds. like, if i wanted to see a review of god of war id fucking look for one. Yahtzee is funny dont get me wrong, but the fact that he has to extract his jokes by making comments on how one game relates to another is getting a little saddening.

Nope, they should search for copies with a passion, to keep the industry original.

This doesn't apply to sequels, which can often be much better than the original game due to devealopers realizing the mistakes they had made in the last game.

This was more than likely triggered by the accusations that Darksiders, Bayonetta and Dante's Inferno all feel very much like God of War in some respects. (Don't ask how Bayonetta got in there, as it's definitely more Devil May Cry.)

And the "it's like Halo" accusations would probably be stemming from any FPSs that, well, feel like Halo.

OT: Yeah, people should stop. Does anyone really care about similarities between games?

Nope. Let the people speak. If you liked God of war, but want a grappling hook, a boomerang, and a portal gun, then Darksider's for you! They all have their little niche that breaks them out from the established IP's we all know and love.

Yes absolutely.

It`s the same thing as doom and grand theft auto, they created genres, and they woulden`t be called genres if they were for some reason restricted to a single series.

Some games build on the same idea and are just as good or even better and they still get whined at for being copy cats.

I played bayonetta and it was fantastic, bloody fantastic, and it still gets called a clone to a game that in my opinion looks absolutely medeocer in comparison.

This is purely in fan boy power ( just look at diablo 2) but as long as they don`t rip off as much as say ninja blade games should be aloud to use a genre that has bin created to make somthing better out of something that was already fantastic.

Well at least for most *couph* wet *chouph*
