I wish the developers put in a little more effort into improving the graphics. I confused fan-made trailers for Sims 3 (made from Sims 2 gameplay footage) with the official trailer. Sad, sad, sad.

I get more satisfaction out of cutting someone in half with my lancer bayonet
I remember my first chainsaw bisection in GoW. My friend had brought it round and I was eager to test the melee on the Lancer. I ploughed straight through a load of Locust, picked my victim, and ripped him in two, screaming at the screen for no reason at all. I still have no idea why I did that.

I like The Sims, I don't know why everyone hates it - or any game, so much. I know it's been said time and time again but that's because it's true - if you don't like it, EA aren't forcing you to buy it. Just buy something better, like Fallout 3 or Generic FPS du jour if you really want, but don't deprive people who actually like the game of it just because its success annoys you.

GIRLS LIKE THE SIMS.
This. It comes down to profit and The Sims will always make a shitload of it. Sure, gamers well-versed in the industry won't bother with a game that doesn't really offer anything new (and I'd argue even for them). But anyone who has no idea about it? Sold.

I have an ex-girlfriend who loves the bloody thing. She's bought every single expansion ever made. Really, anyone in here as a gamer really believes that the freaking pets package offered that much content? Unlikely. But she bought it. And she'll buy Sims 3 too.

It does get a little more flack than it really deserves. It was an intelligent and well-executed concept. It's not really up to par with, you know, proper video games, but it's not awful. I myself have enjoyed it... just not for more than a few hours. Still, even for me, it was a nice break from killing everything in sight and saving the universe.

It's pretty elementary. We've known it for years. Girls like the Sims, for the same reason they like dolls, and why the ones who like MMOs like MMOs.. (.....)
Okay. That's it. I shall stop posting. People obviously don't understand me.

Yaddi, yadi yad. Yado yadi yad. Dude, I know why girls like the sims. My point was that seemingly number 3 was the axact same as number 2. Therefor I didn't get why she was all excited about number three, considering she allready have two. Number two.

I enjoyed 1 when I borrowed it and the expansions from a friend for a while. My wife and I have 2 and all it's expansions (no stuff packs, those should be free). She plays it a bit more than I do, but I still find it fun. Nice change of pace from all the death and destruction in most other games.

We're both looking forward to 3, but probably won't buy it right away. We'll likely wait until a few expansions and patches have come out and the price drops.

New features:

-Yes, the personality thing is one. Instead of changing dials you choose traits for your Sims, like moron or kiss ass (ok, maybe not thoughts two).

-Constant open world, everyone doing everything at the same time in one huge neighborhood.

-Customize individual objects and pieces of furniture.

I'm looking forward to it. I find it pretty two faced that the people who usually say graphics don't matter kick up a fuss when they don't meet their standards. The technology behind a constantly working neighborhood, if it works, is quite a leap for the Sims.

I totally agree with you...I've always been a pretty big fan of the Sims games. I pretty exited about the Sims 3

But whatever,I'm a dude and I'm hyped for the Sims 3. What you going to do?

Actually, that's not it. The "big thing" this time around is that it'll have seamless neighborhoods.
The thing that bothers me about this: in the previous games, since there wasn't a continuous neighbourhood, you could build up one family at a time and then get them to meet up and be friends (or enemies) as desired. In Sims 3, with the continuous neighbourhood, it sounds like you won't be able to do that any more -- at least not without having to constantly juggle from one family to another.

Meh. I didn't like Sims 2, so I'll be skipping out on this. Instead, I'll get that new Spore expansion: that at least looks interesting...

Well the sims has always been good for sadistic people to live out their strangest fantasies. Yes, that is worth forty dollars.
But then again, I'm one of those sadistic freaks, so just ignore me.

The Sims has always been my guilty pleasure as a gamer, and it looks like EA is making an effort to make Sims 3 a true "three" game for the series...it looks like the devs started out with a great concept, refined it to a T in the second game, then took the series in a whole new direction for the third installment.

EA's announced that the DRM will be disc-check only (yes, I'm aware that SecuROM will be the disc-checking utility of choice, but that doesn't bother me---it's install-limit and other more draconian DRM that bothers me), and if Spore's eventual release on Steam is anything to go by, EA may be playing nice enough that I won't have to feel like pirating it is my only option---if it's available through Steam I'll very likely buy it through that channel to let EA know that "yes, I approve of what you're doing, and you're going a long way toward restoring your reputation."

As for expansions, if they pop one out every six months and have the same track record for making the expansions actually worth buying (every Sims 2 pack has something to recommend it if you like the core game, and Nightlife and Seasons in particular were extremely well done), then as I see it, what's another 30 bucks twice a year to keep a game fresh? I just hope they're not really foolish enough to think they can charge twenty bucks for "stuff packs" when you can go to any modders' resource on the Internet and just download better stuff for free.

well maybe they feel that they need to be like everyone else and make more sequels when they could be makin new original things. but with the new technology i guess they wanted to show off how inteligent they could make their AI and make you just build their surroundings and let the Sims do what they want

It's one more game for your girl friend (what you have one of those???), or your wife you've been neglecting due to your WoW addition.

Let her play it over and over and get her all hyped up and she'll stop nagging you for sex all the time because her sims will be porking each other instead .. hmmm...

(oh.. wait... I'd rather have real-life sex than help a guild raid some retard, but maybe that's because I'm normal?).

I got to play it a wee bit at GDC and it actually seemed really cool. For one thing, all that micromanaging you had to do - you know, getting your Sim to feed itself, wash itself, etc -- is largely done away with. You can, for example, get a perk that lets your Sim only have to eat once a day, or something. It's less micromanaging and more doing. The bit I saw actually made me want to play the game, and I haven't been interested in the Sims since the first one.

Profit for EA. Simple as that.

That said, I always liked building houses in 2, so I'm getting it regardless.

Point for the sims 3 is that it will allow people to be even lazier, all while EA profits out of milking the fuck out of it. 30 go to 10

You know, it would be, if all the character's voice acting, animation and emotional reactions were handled by Rockstar.
