Guys, it's wonderful to see that at least few of you play this game like it was meant to be played. I'm proud of you. No. Really i am. Thank you. :)
What the fuck are you talking about? Yeah, dicking around is fun. But the fact that I found the main quest compelling enough to follow through with it before my usual 50 hours spent killing every bandit for miles around and becoming head of every guild possible is a good thing. The game is not necessarily meant to be played with 30 hours of wasting time before you do the important stuff. If Bethesda wanted that, they should have removed the level scaling. Or made the quest lines bigger or something.

Wait, what do you mean? 20-30 hours is plenty of time to finish the main quest, and how will time spent dicking around change one's opinion on the main quest? Hell, I think I finished the main quest in under 30 hours. It was cool, so I actually focused on it for once.
I think it comes down to "YOU'RE PLAYING IT WRONG!!!!!!!!!"
What exactly is the difference between me dicking around before I finish the main quest, and me dicking around after I finish the main quest (or any other quest line for that matter)? Except if I finish the quest lines first I then get to discuss them on Escapist and with friends and whatever. Hell, ignoring the main quest kind of removes all sense of urgency doesn't it? "Quickly, we must slay Alduin! Oh, but you go become arch-mage and collect those bounties first, it's cool. We'll wait here."

Let me repeat this. I am happy I finished the main quest so quickly. Especially after Oblivion's was so boring I have never finished it. Skyrim made me want to finish the main quest.

I'm 160 hours in and I've just crashed the Embassy party. If that is rushing, I don't want to see someone take their time =S

I'm in 137 hours, I've only just crush the rebellion...
Though I've been the boss of every guild for a while... Like a boss.

Next storylline quest I have to do is "Diplomatic Immunity"...
But first I want to master enchanting, so I can enchant my legendary Daedric equipment so it at least recharges magica at the same rate as archmage robes and Morokei.
And maybe some resistances...
Those Forsworn Briarhearts with their lightning are a bit hard...
In fact, I have problems fighting most high level mage types...
Why recharge magicka? When you can reduce macicka cost of spells with 100%.
Because I have to do that separately for every school of magic.
Anyway, forst thing I want to do is create a set of clothes with Fortify Enchanting, which I will then use to create a better set of clothes with Fortify Ecnhanting, which I will then use to create a better set of clothes with Fortify Enchanting...
Well, I dont think you can actually fortify enchating with enchantments. Just as you cant fortify alchemy with potions. You have to fortify alchemy with enchantments fortify enchantments with alchemy then fortify alchemy with enchantments..
Actually, I found a helmet which fortifies enchantments by 25%...
Now I just have to find it again it that chest is Breezehome...
OMG...... *Runs off to play skyrim* Thankyou-youaremygod-forumsgotmyhopesdown-yousavedmyday. Technically this means you could just increase enchantment to the point of having 50% mana saved, having the 2 enchantments perk. You could reduce the mana cost of all spell schools to 0. Illusion, Conjuration, Destruction,Restoration, altera(ohno 5) Ah well, its not like you used Alteration anyway.
5? Is that a problem?
Hat, clothes, gloves, boots, ring and amulet...
That's 6 things to enchant, and with that final perk that allows you to put 2 enchantments on something...
12 enchantments. Without weapon or shield.
And no, I haven't used alteration yet, I think...
Though I might put an enchantment on my armour with the Feather effect...

Same here. For my husband the door was just bloody open. Maybe there is a secondary entry way.
I already mentioned (I think in this very thread) that one of the amulet pieces is only attainable by doing the Mage College's questline. They open the door to the final peice in one of their quests.

Hope that helps. :)

Immersion. From the POV of gamer : being submerged in a game. Forgetting about outside world. Being interested in lore (if applicable), treating it like second, almost real world. Finally, and probably most importantly : trying to "be" your own hero, acting like he/she actually lives.

Simply spending plenty of time playing some game and not caring about outside world isn't "immersion". It's seclusion, isolation and such.

Did i pass the test ?
Then why preclude people who simply played it different from you?

Ask the dude who is talking about "immersion" and how the game is "meant to be played."

Personally, I don't care how you played the game, and really, nobody should except you.

With you relax and take your time enjoy the experience.

Usually I check my log and see what kind of mission I feel like doing and I go on my way. 2-3 missions later depending on the length I save, shut down the game and let my PS3 cool itself. Basking in that lovely afterjoy

Seriously going in 8 hours .. that is madness. You get to tired and some missions you need to be fresh in mind.

If we're going to speak of the fabled "immersion," then wouldn't it be considered more immersive for you, the Dovahkiin of legend and prophecy to get a bloody move on and stop the end of the world instead of fannying about looking for "just one more barrow!?"

Not that I have. What? Save the world for certain destruction at the hands of millenia old immortal dragon? Not me mate, I need to make more iron daggers and flog them to this Nord bird so I can buy more iron ore to make more daggers so I can practice smithing and craft meself an awesome suit of shiny dragonbone armour.

You're welcome. And yeah, I feel your pain. Stupid Draugr Deathlords and their disarm shout. Benor lost Volundrung (the Deadric Warhammer I got form the orc-y Deadric Prince whose name excapes me at the moment) somewhere in the Labarynthian, and it took me AGES to find that sucker. :p

I did what I usually do, go through the main quest normally then worry about dicking around. Main quest is nice and fun and pretty much acts as a tour of the game world. Although now I've started a second character I'm doing more Daedric quests than just Azura's and Sheogorath's. Azura's Star makes levelling enchanting actually bearable and Wabbajack is good to cheese your way past encounters that you're underlevelled for or just find really annoying.

Oh good. I thought you might not have been serious, but after being told I shouldn't have finished the main quest first I'm finding it kind of hard to figure out who to take seriously...

Yeah, I just saw that. To the few of you talking about immersion, how is it breaking immersion to do the damn quest and, you know, save the world as quickly as possible? When I heard of Alduin's return, my first thought wasn't "yeah, that sounds pretty bad but I'm gonna go become an assassin" it was "holy fuck, we need to do something about this!"

Maaaaybe...or maybe I just want to make my house look very pretty...and spiky...by decorating the hallway with dragonbone armour. That'll keep the world-eating dragons away.

Kind of like heads on a pike? I dig it. Now just enchant them with fire for dramatic effect, and lay them out in a message that can only been seen from the sky, like, "Mmmmm-mmm, dragon sure is tasty!". :)

Why ? What's the rush ? Why are you people running through Skyrim instead of playing it slowly, trying to become hero, protagonist of your own fantasy story, just, you know, for the sake of fun and immersion ?
Hero? Protagonist?

Hehe. Yeah, right. Im a Hero. AND a Protagonist.
Or possibly a Serial Killer.

In any case, OT; I agree. Some folks are rushing it.

Preclude from what ? I'm not following.
Man, it's one of Bethesda's "world simulators". It is you, big world, and some quickly invented cliched, generic story for the sake of calling it "the game". I am strongly convinced that "speedrunning" through any of crpgs made by Bethesda is playing it wrongly.

However i don't feel like marking people doing otherwise as freaks and it's not the point of this topic. I'm simply curious. What do i miss ? Why not to take longer road ?
Once again : "what's the rush ?"

Chill. Nobody's accusing you of anything. :)
If you followed main quest to the end AND then you plan to play more, then we have nothing to argue about.
My questions are for those who quickly finished main storyline and stopped playing Skyrim.

That's your typical case of anti-heroism. Nevertheless, a protagonist. ;p

I just walked up those bloody 7000 steps.
I accidentally made it to High Hrothgar. Let me explain: I LOVE to climb mountains. This comes from hours of doing it on an MMORPG called Shaiya with a close friend of mine. We would have competitions to see who could get to the top of an obnoxiously tall mountain first. So now I have mad climbing skills so I accidentally came a cross High Hrothgar so I never actually climbed the steps. The Ice Troll on the way out was a surprise though, I sneaked up on the bastard!

I have spent 178.48.37 time playing. Level 40. I just dick around all the time! To be fair though, I used to leave the game on while I slept because starting it up was a *****. So the time isn't quite that long.

A lot of people like to play the main quest, then do the side quests at their leisure - I'm 56 hours in, and am level 23, boss of the companions etc, but have done very little of the main quest. For me, Skyrim is all about character development... a couple of times now I've decided to abandon a quest and do something else, improve my weaponary, look for resources, investigate a new quest etc, then come back to unfinished quests later. So far though, my favorite quest has been the one with Sanguine, quests like that are what makes Skyrim, or any elder scrolls game IMO. I'm in no hurry to finish it, hell I'll play it like Fallout3 before the continuation DLC, doing side quests while robots and douchebags are battling to wrap the game story up.
