OT: Back in our senior year of high school, when the teacher was talking about Genghis Khan, a girl goes "Wait isn't that that guy from Mulan!?" Same person also thought Winston Churchill was "that black guy" -_-
OK, I gotta ask, is she referring to the Ghostbuster Winston Zeddmore? Because that's the first thing that popped into my mind and that mental image of confusing the two is priceless.
I'm glad you asked, because it only gets worse, after much probing, the class was able to determine that she was thinking of....wait for it... Micheal Jordan.... I wish I was kidding, she confused Winston Churchill with Micheal Jordan..... the teacher also bought a stress ball after that day, and used it FREQUENTLY

o_O Wow... that truly does deserve a slow clap... I mean, it could've been forgiven as a perplexing brain-fart with Ghostbusters, but Michael Jordan? Gold star for that story.

I thought that over the counter medicine was the prescription drugs in the pharmacy.
They're not?!

OT: While my bro is playing Tekken online with my dad in the room. We come across a player with the username "Girl R Smarter."

Dad: Is this a girl playing?
Me: How am I supposed to know?
Dad: Can't you tell by the name?

A Russian colleague of mine came to the Netherlands for his PhD (so he isn't stupid). He needed to get a permit from the embassy in Russia to work in the Netherlands. So he went and checked where the the 'Dutch' embassy. Unfortunately, the Dutch don't call themselves Dutch in our own Language (It's just 'Nederlands'). However, we and the Germans themselves call the Germans Duits/Deutsch. So he went to the 'Deutsche' embassy to get a Dutch working permit for the Netherlands.

Oh, and while I was living in France, my landlord was a racist who felt the solution to the polution problem was, as far as I could understand with my poor French, war against the 3rd world to reduce their population.

Mine happened in my history class. It went like this.

Girl: I'm not going to be here tomorrow.
Teacher: Why not?
Girl: I'm getting my gall bladder removed.
Stupid Girl: But then how will you have babies?

Luckily that teacher is making a book of stupid things people have said in his class. I can't wait for him to publish it, I would so buy a copy.
please PM me when its out

I had always assumed I was right because there was never really a moment that I used the phrase "over the counter". Nobody ever had the opportunity to correct me.
Hey, I thought I knew the difference! Care to explain what it is? Because now I'm confused.
Over the counter medicine is medicine that you can pick up right off the shelves, like advil.

I always thought that it was medicine you needed a prescription for, because they had to "hand it to you over the counter". I was wrong.

A group of girls I know were talking about the mona Lisa. One was trying to remember who painted it and thought it was Michelangelo. Then another said, " of course not. Everyone knows it was leonardo dicaprio."

*facepalm*

Um.. I saw somebody just punch our school resource officer out of nowhere. And, our school banned plastic zip ties after somebody made a threat to kill somebody by strangeling them with it. The next day, a guy came in with a shirt made entirely out of plastic zip ties

Back when I was at school, a guy asked if there was oxygen in the air. At first, I was all "That's all right, I thought the air was nothing but oxygen until I learnt that there were other gases." And then I realised the guy had asked if there was oxygen in the air, not if it was the only thing. I facepalmed pretty hard.

Though i suppose that ignorance rather than 'genuine stupidity'. Still funny.

not particually stupid (my brother is a pretty smart guy) but he was bored one day and decided he could make a perpetual motion machine using a tube and some marbles

you know, never mind the geniuses and physisists that spend alot of time working this out

it didnt work out, just like when he realised a car powered by magnets also wouldnt work

History class in my first year of high school. Our teacher starts to talk about Africa, and this girl that sits next to me asks me what the capital of Africa is. She thought Kenya was the capital of Africa. When I told her it was a continent, she didn't believe me.

Me and my friend where talking about Nazis and Hitler back in High school.
This girl who isn't actually that dumb, asked us "What's Hitler?"
That's Germany's response. "What's Hitler?"
Lets see there was that time someone asked me what omnipotence was.
Usually forgive situations like that because everyone seems to have some weird glaring gap in their knowledge. Just being uninformed rather than stupid.

What really gets me is when when someone is hypocritical, which happens a lot considering I hang out with a lot of fanboys (Sony Fanboys in particular). Wii is stupid, but PS Move is totally original and totally isnt a cashgrab, that kind of thing.

Most recently, two of my friends were making fun of the Red Ring of Death like its 2008. So I turn around and remind one of them that two of his PS3s have YLOD'd over a year. He said it was just bad luck, but I told him it was a generally problem with where the Graphics card is placed in the old 60GB models. And he still stalwartly defends the PS3 like its the next messiah.
I don't forgive it when they don't understand even after I explain it for 45 mins, someone that is 17 should know what it is.

Imagine if he got it though.

You just walk in to his room and the device in front of him.

I would then get him to modify my car so it runs on magnets, then we drive to the nearest scientific institute

oh and Id make him give me half the credit

Being Uninformed: Not knowing due to lack of relevant information.

Stupidity: Not being able to understand even with all relevant information.

So if youre explaining it for 45 minutes, telling them what they need to know, and they still dont understand it, yeah, theyre probably stupid. If they dont know, it might be a simple gap in their knowledge. Omnipotence isnt generally ued in everyday discussion. Since youre obviously smarter than them, maybe you should educate them a little.

"Wait, (the attack of) Pearl Harbor was related to World War II?"

No, it's related to Batman sailing across the Deleware during the Vietnam war, what did you think it was related to?
