Hey guys, I was wondering...
One thing that always bothers me is that about 70% of gamers will go into a shooter and immediately pick the sniper rifles. Every single goddamn time. I really don't understand this as I can't see how something as slow-paced as sitting back and picking off enemies one-by-one from a mile away can be very much fun. So to those of you who use the snipers, what on Earth is so damn appealing about them?
Thanks
It's because picking some isolated place on the far side of the map where no one really bothers to go/look and sniping people one by one at a distance is a sure fire a way to get a lot more kills then deaths and therefore obviously makes those people more skilled gamers then the rest of us....

I agree with you, i never get what is fun about that but it seems for some people the fun is in massaging their ego with their statistics rather then in playing the actual game.

In TF2 i find it strange that when people get sniped, they become a sniper. Surely choosing Spy and getting BEHIND them is a better idea o_O
Counter-sniping is way more satisfying, plus a good many Snipers rock Razorbacks making it pretty hard to backstab them.

I've just always preferred long distance killing. Although from time to time nothing beats rushing the enemy with notihng but a sniper and a pistol.

Because there's nothing more satisfying than the click of a Bolt-Action sniper rifle that is following the sight of your enemies head popping open.

because it's easy. (well, in games that is.) you can farely easy stack up kills from ambush without much adjustment or training. but (especially true in objective based gamemodes) snipers can't win the game. take bc2 for example, snipers on the attacker team on rush. they are a minor annoyance, but contribute next to nothing to the team efford.

I don't snipe because it ain't fun.
People say that the elimination of the enemy is exciting. I fail to see how that's more exciting than rushing into the fray, killing a few people, injuring others so your team can finish them off and still live to tell the tale.
Now THAT is what I call fun.
But hey, that's just me.

I only play as a sniper in the Battlefield games, and even then it's only about a third of the time. That's the only game I can play the well. But yeah I see what you mean about everyone choosing the sniper and all of one team ending up on one side of the map using snipers instead of getting objectives done >.<.

I rarely snipe, because I hate people who sit back and just kill people who can't fight back, it's easy. That said I have an epic shot with the scout in css, I can get a no scope headshot from quite a distance, I just think it's a pathetic thing to do unless you are very good at it, and don't just sit on the other side of the map, picking people off.

The 'skill' in sniping is getting the big bad 100dmg to the foot gun, and aiming at someone's chest, knowing you'll always get a kill because you have the 'awp' because you found the super duper spot. Also, when playing tf2, and playing on an open map, having 5 fucking snipers on 1 fucking team at any fucking time is just fucking shitty, because even the heavy falls down to a fully charged headshot. Oh god i have gas...argh it stinks! *cough cough*
and also......silly sniper, awp is for sh** eating di** munchers!

Snipers are cowards. Come out and face me with a fair gun, instead of worrying about your K/D ratio, and getting easy kills.
If you find me in css, you better go into a knife fight duel! That goes for all you other snipers.

Sometimes when I know the opponent is outmatched in a one on one game, I pick up the sniper rifle and hide, waiting for them to come into view. Shot once to injure, then run off to another part of the map. Repeat several times. You can almost EAT the panic they are oozing by the end as they jump at little things, creeping along slowly or running around in random little patterns. It's the chance to enjoy something I would never actually enjoy in real life...the ability to totally FUCK with someone's head. It's like they are James, and I get to be Silent Hill, slowly whittling them away into an oozing pile of gibbering idiocy ^_^
That's what makes it fun.

Snipers are as far as im concerned, are a support class. Most players who do snipe arent very good at FPS's because they always get killed for dumbassness such as running out in the open and trying to Rambo everything.
That requires some skill with the game and people shouldnt immediatly try this. So after dying like 50 times they'll want to shoot people from a safe location,IE camping or sniping, depends on what game you play.

nothing better than sneaking right round the map and coming out and finding a few snipers sat there aiming the opposite way and then just blasting them in the back of the head with a good ol assult rifle like HA take that you cowardly skill-less fucks

NOTE - this may seem cowardly in itself shooting in the back of the head but to get to them i have had to fight my way across the map in face to face battles while the snipers sit in the towers out of harms way and getting one hit kills with the most over-powered gun in most games

It makes me feel like a game hunter or something. It requires a certain amount of skill and it makes you look cool.
It's basically this. The fact that you can dispense death without your victims ever seeing it coming is just appealing, I guess. Though I also like running in with assault rifles. It's the manly way to go.

There is a certain euphoric feeling, when, after waiting for that guy on the other team to move his head ....just..so..BANG, his head lines up right and that tiny reticle turns red, and what WAS a complex system of nuerons and flesh, is replaced by a stump on top of a meatbag.

Picking you off from a mile away with a single shot to the grey area.

Predatory instincts.

Also I'm a hitman at heart. A professional. One shot, one kill.

Depends on the areas in the game, I played the downloadable Battle field game on the PS3 and was able to easily get kills and was pretty much constantly on the move, In games like Modern Warfare however, you'd get a hundred bullets up your ass before you put one in your rifle.

Personally, I enjoy the sniper class because it focuses on Stealth and tactics (debatable, perhaps its tactics are more simple to engage) in most cases.

for me, the choice to snipe depends on certain factors. the map being one of these factors; if the map is tiny, there is no point (yet people STILL DO IT!). Also, if i see my team-mates have picked a sniping class, there is no point in me doing it too, let them take the fire while i come around the corner with akimbo rangers...

How angry it makes people like you. Seriously, in TF2 my favourite classes are Sniper, Pyro, and Spy because those are the classes that it's most frustrating for other players to die to.
