Because nothings more satisfying than killing an obnoxious 12 year old online with one bullet, not half a mag

Because if snipers in games were in any way realistic, they wouldn't be fun, so game developers just make them like any other gun, except that it's a 1 hit kill. Why wouldn't you use it? There's no downside whatsoever.
I don't use them because I have a sense of honor when I play a multiplayer game. Getting sniped sucks. I hate it and I know alot of other people do too. I don't want to do to others something that immensely pisses me off when done to me. Also, I'm a team player. I love to work with my teammates and win. Sniping contributes nothing to the team, which is why it fucks over so many Bad Company 2 matches. If the game requires a team effort to attack and seize an objective, having 8 of 12 people sitting in the mountains at out spawn ruins the fun. Snipers only help themselves.
no offense, but there is no such thing as honor in combat

nothing better than sneaking right round the map and coming out and finding a few snipers sat there aiming the opposite way and then just blasting them in the back of the head with a good ol assult rifle like HA take that you cowardly skill-less fucks
Also amusing: playing as field ops and calling the artillery support on the top of the sniper's helmet.

Sure, it's overkill, but you then have time to type "Hey, sniper, catch!" and wait the rest of 4.5 seconds before pressing Enter so he's just got time to see the message pop up before he ceases to exist.

Of course, in Enemy Territory this works fine on snipers but won't work on a medic because they'll have recovered full health by the time they come back down from being blown 500m across the map ...

I will either choose extreme long range or up close and personal, non of this mid range wishy-washy stuff. Either give me a knife or a sniper rifle. Mostly because both headshotting and stabbing someone in the back with a knife (not in MW2) take skill. My two most played classes in TF2 are the Sniper and Spy.

Battlefield can suffer from Sniper Sydrome.

I was on a squad yesterday with 3 Recons, all sitting in bushes and sniping, but not one of them spotting for anyone else or getting in to plant C4 on vehicles, anything helpful.

I had to keep switching between Assault and Engineer to try and deal with the enemy M Comms and tanks, it was pretty annoying.

Needless to say we lost horribly.

It depends on the game for me. In something like Left 4 Dead or Bioshock I'm a shotgun kinda gal. But when we're talking Borderlands or Uncharted, I'd like to blow someone's brains out. Why is it fun? Why is it fun to shoot anyone?

I have a hideous lack of timing that affects everything I do. It's a suprise that I love Hack and Slash games when I can't dodge or counter. I also have O.C.D which means that as well as being unable to snipe a moving target, I refuse to fire until my scope is centred right in the middle of an enemies face, not slidely to the side, only the middle will do. That's why I use a shotgun, the one weapon that requires no skill to use.

a bfbc2 sniper can be VERY useful when guarding a fused charge or covering attack points but...

when you have more than 2 it makes the task pointless. So you end up getting 7 recon sitting on a hill just competing for kills and yea adding nothing to the game.

1 or 2 good snipers are a godsend but any more and your lacking attackers

Can I recomend KillZone 2 to you then, the shotty is really powerful and has aim assist built into the game with it.

I put this into another thread about dumb online play, in a 10 v 10 match the other team had 5 snipers that were useless against moving targets, so Cooper our team static sniper was constantly dying.

Needless to say we won all objectives.

Thanks but I hate both Killzone 2 due to all the guns feeling like they've just came out of a retirement home and I also hate aim-assist for making planet sized aliens about as threatening as a cold cup of tea.

Yeah I hear that about KillZone alot, I like it but if your used to CoD/MW then it may feel like your characters is running through treacle.

Like the TinMan needing some oil on the joints.

I am a stone, I do not move. I take my time. I let him come closer, I have only one bullet. I aim at his eye, very gently my finger presses on the trigger. I have no fear.

Sitting a good distance away picking off idiots who run in straight lines and dont know how to use cover Vs running in and out of buildings where its just luck that you either see an enemy first or come out behind him or win out in the spray contest

Thats why

It's not the movement thing, I just feel that any game where hip fire is more accurate than aiming down the sight has a problem. It's to bloody realistic which doesn't help considering one of my favourite series is Ratchet and Clank.

not against snipers but i dont like em too much. i mean everyone says theres sooooooo much skill involved and im not denying that u require skill but, it also takes skill to kill ppl with other weapons. i mean in BF bad company 2 it definitely takes skill with a shot gun seeing as svery other gun can fire form afar with good accuracy, even with machine guns. and yes i know u can add slugs to shot guns to increase accuracy, but still no where near as accurate as a machine gun with a red dot which u cant put on shotguns. SO back to the point, i personally like using shotguns(duh) cause i love sneaking up to ppl and BANG hes dead and it does take skill to avoid snipers and other ppl. and theres no better feeling than the sheer pwr of the shotgun

Watching your prey, that's what they are at this point, move around, unaware of your presence and then BAM, a quick shot to the head. The loud, ringing noise still lingers ever so slightly in the area. A guttural cry that causes anyone who isn't you to panic.
Everyone, without even thinking, scatters like roaches in the middle of an illuminated kitchen. Doesn't matter where they go, any cover is good cover at this point, but they don't want to stay there. You're there.

These moments of pure excitement are worth the slow, tedious routines of waiting.

That's why I feel compelled to anyway.

Exactly. There is a heightened thrill to each kill as. Also you hac use snipers while moving in most games so there needn't be such a long wait.
