While I do tend to go for sniper rifles now, I simply refuse to use them 'as tactically intended'.

Sniper Rifle + Close range mastery = Awesome closeup precision attacks

That's why I find Snipers so useful. That and people freaking out or thinking I don't know what it's for. Of course I know how to use the rifle, I'm just using it differently and more awesomely!

Particularly effective in Fallout 3 thanks to the V.A.T.S system!

cant be explained, but i find it badass to just sit back and lead a guy who's on the run with a sniper rifle. its just badass, whereas running around with rifles is kickass

Because I quick scope like an MLG pro son! No i'm not a douche-bag but when i play call of duty i enjoy the challenge of running around quick scoping and still getting good scores.

The best way to answer this thread is with a quote from Jarhead.

"The grunt dies for 15 000 poorly-placed rounds. The sniper dies for that one. perfect. shot. I was hooked. I wanted the pink mist."

It's all in the satisfaction of the precision of your actions. The satisfaction of taking that one perfect shot. Anyone can spray rifle bullets but it takes precision, timing and reflexes to be a good sniper.

Maybe it has something to do with snipers being potrayed in movies as kickass people who get the most kills. Pvt Jackson (Saving Private Ryan), Bob Lee Swagger (Shooter), Enemy at the Gates, the sniper woman from Smoking Aces, School Boy (Rambo).

I like hide and seek. Sniping is just a big game of hide and seek...with guns.

Watching your prey, that's what they are at this point, move around, unaware of your presence and then BAM, a quick shot to the head. The loud, ringing noise still lingers ever so slightly in the area. A guttural cry that causes anyone who isn't you to panic.
Everyone, without even thinking, scatters like roaches in the middle of an illuminated kitchen. Doesn't matter where they go, any cover is good cover at this point, but they don't want to stay there. You're there.

These moments of pure excitement are worth the slow, tedious routines of waiting.

That's why I feel compelled to anyway.
I should go ahead and say this.

there really is no better feeling, after taking time to find a good position, finding a mark, and lining up the shot and then taking them down.

the only thing I believe snipers should do, is constantly change position to keep it fair, if you just camp one spot that no one can reach then it's just not fair or fun for the other players.

Well on a personal level I'd always prefer to be 'TEH FURY!'

But thanks to the power and education of our omnipotent, omniscient god the internet we have this to direct you too.

I think that the majority of snipers are only after a good R/D ratio. Although, I will agree with the fact that having one or two snipers of a team in Rush on BFBC 2, either Defensive or Offensive, is good.

It just sucks when two people have to pull off an offensive, because a team of snipers and two assault classes won't destroy M-Com stations.

You don't die as easily when you are a mile away.

That said, I hate sniping like that. When I use a sniper, I'm usually trying to quickscope or no-scope people. I try to avoid using a sniper though, being right behind an unaware enemy with a silenced submachine gun is much more satisfying than being unseen three hundred miles away.

I like snipers because they seem to think they are invincible despite the fact that they stand perfectly still allowing you to easily go around the and kill them from behind.
and also they don't realize that i can get just as much range as a sniper rifle while using an M-16 or M-60.

My main FPS is team fortress 2, and i guess because of it, i now have a strong distaste for assault rifles. Incredibly long range and automatic bullets just really irritates me because a sniper is supposed to have such long range, not assault rifles.

Snipers have cunning and wit, knowing where to hide, and the satisfaction of hitting some unsuspecting person in the head is all too satisfying. I for one, am more of a hit and run type sniper, which i think is more difficult. You get 1 or 2 shots before you've got to run for it. When you pull this off, you feel like you have accomplished something, which is why I always take the sniper before anything else.

Killing someone without them even knowing you were there. It's not a cheat, you were just someone somewhere whom I could kill with a well placed shot to the brainpan. It's not a cover-all strategy (gone are the days of the rapid fire sniper rifle of UT, god rest it's blood drenched soul) or way to play (because getting stabbed in the back while lining up the perfect headshot just never gets less disappointing), but it does feel fun.

But then again, I'm just as likely to grab a shotgun and run at you like a lunatic while foaming at the mouth. KAMN - Kills by Any Means Necessary

Hey guys, I was wondering...
One thing that always bothers me is that about 70% of gamers will go into a shooter and immediately pick the sniper rifles. Every single goddamn time. I really don't understand this as I can't see how something as slow-paced as sitting back and picking off enemies one-by-one from a mile away can be very much fun. So to those of you who use the snipers, what on Earth is so damn appealing about them?
Thanks
See, you're acting like it's real life sniping. Sniping in RL is a long and slow process, (most of the time) You have to get into position, stay hidden, mark your target, follow them, check for wind and other factors, call it in, and lead the target before taking the shot. It's nothing like the run and snipe we see in video games now. Halo 3 you have people getting headshots while holding a sniper rifle with one hand from the back of a mongoose driving off a jump!

It's a damaging weapon that kills from far away, why wouldn't you use it?

70% are you sure? I wouldn't have thought so. I think its an ego thing. Killing without the person in question expecting it plus you can get lots of easy kills.
I personally like shotguns.

I really dont see 70 percent in a game being a sniper. In fact, im pretty mad that we dont have MORE snipers in MAG. Raven would MURDER with them, like i do, but i only see another one or two on my team. Especially in mag, where you run alot, you always running and falling into traps, some guy behind the bushes, or just a bunch of random grenades going off killing you. When youre a sniper, you only killed a guy because youre GOOD at it, and you usually only get killed by another guy deliberately trying to kill YOU. It makes it a game of death, instead of a grenade and noob fest.
