So apparently Edge magazine gave The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings 06/10

Witcher 2 fans seem to care more about review scores than anyone else...
You mean other than DNF fans.

As others have said play the game before you complain and just because you like it does not mean everyone will.
DNF has fans?!
Well there are people that rant endlessly about how 'unfair' the ratings were, I don't know if they are fans or just paid representatives.

I often read Edge and their review system differs from most in the fact that the scale actually means what it should. 5 is average and everything above is varying levels of accomplishment. 6 out of 10 in Edge means it's an above average game. Granted, they seem to hand out higher scores to games these days than in their past, but generally, most games receive between 6 and 8.

I do agree with the comments made about the OP only playing 20 minutes of the game, it's nowhere near enough time to deem something amazing. I've often gone into a game thinking 'wow!' and then by the middle of the game, I find myself bored or irratated by certain things I didn't really notice at first.

I really don't understand why the fanboys are so rabid about this game. If you like to play it, then why does it matter if a few critics didn't?

If it is anything like the first one I will give it a meh/10. I don't understand the love for this series. It is your prototypical 1st person RPG with some sex thrown in.

Destructoid also gave it a 6/10. Oh shock and horror, someone on the internet has a different opinion than you. They must all be "console kiddies" and hate anything that is PC exclusive, and they probobly only like hack and slash games.

this right here is just stupid. Having played this game for only 20 mins at a friends house halfway through the story I can honestly say its amazing.
Well, that was clever.
Your missing the point dude. I'm annoyed that they're just trolling. A group of people who prefer a certain console, genre etc cannot possibly write a review about anything without being impartially mediated. Its like getting a nordicist to write a book on race.
That's where I think you're wrong, someone who ain't a fan is gonna give a more honest opinion right? If as an example a die hard Halo fanboy review Halo of course he's gonna praise it no matter what, someone who's not a fan isn't gonna get a clear picture. Isn't it better for a non-fan to review it, point out what he don't like, and then if you're okay with what he dislikes then go for it. And still, might just be their honest opinion, I'm a die hard Bioshock fan and I still hate Bioshock 2.

Barack Obama recieved this game as a gift and yet this Edge gave it a 06/10.
I don't see how the Polish Prime Minister giving Obama a Polish game should raise its score.

While I haven't played it the score does seem pretty low compared to those others, but then every reviewer is going to be biased towards and against certain things and I see no reason to complain about that fact. Now if their biases are different than yours you probably shouldn't give their scores much weight.

What I want to know is why everybody is so spunked about Barack Obama receiving the game as a gift. Key words were italicised for the stupid. It's not like he wanted the game and I doubt he asked for it.

Anyway as said above, who cares? If you like it, fine. Someone doesn't? Don't cry.
Hehe indeed, and after recieving the game he said the famous "put away games, read a book" or something like that, maybe it was just that bad it managed to convince the President of USA that games are just crap for nerds? ....jokes aside ^^

Before Reading The OP: C'mon guys, let's go make Edge Magazine accounts and insult them because they have a different opinion!

After Reading The OP: Different people have different opinions. Just accept it and move on. You're not going to accomplish anything spectacular.

I really liked to Witcher 2.

However, I'm aware that I only liked it that much because of its ambiance and its system of choice and consequence.

The gameplay, while slightly interesting, is a bit bland and the story only hints at how great what it could actually be.

It's a solid game, true, but not a great game.

My personal score for it would be 8 out of 10 but if I had to score it professionaly I'd only give it a 6 or a 7.

The problem is, IMO, that the game review scoring methods are flawed in general.

A game that gets 5 out of 10 shouldn't be considered a bad game. The 5 should be indicative of a decent experience. Dispite eventually coming to love the series, Assassin's Creed 1 should be a 5 in my book: It gets a bit too repetitive mid-game.

The problem is that for most reviewers, gamers and (obviously) developers, 5 isn't average. It's terrible.

*sighs*

I'm gonna shut up now. Talking about this subject is making me want to go on and on about what's wrong with the gaming industry and I just don't have the time nor the patience right now.

You are seeing the same thing with the Witcher as you did to an extent wit Dragon Age 2. Both are solid games that have some minor problems but nothing major wrong with the. The only fault both had were being sequels to amazing games. If it wasn't a sequel it probably would get a better score but that's my opinion

Simple solution: if you don't like how the magazine reviews games or think they have too strong of a bias, stop reading their reviews. I shouldn't even have to say this.

Then again, all evidence suggests you didn't bother reading the review in the first place. Instead, you just looked at the score and decided that your astounding 20 minutes of experience made you a better expert on the game.

Why does it matter? Some people don't like the game? Does every bad Witcher 2 review have to piss fans off this much?
