I don't really care about whatever 'nontroversy' surrounds the whole affair. I just think the game looks absolutely hideous, both aesthetically and mechanically.
Take that as you will.

I blame doors. They've had it out for gates ever since they got first dibs on announcing a person's arrival to the house.omega 616 said:(I fucking hate how every controversy is "gate" these days ... gates are getting a bad rap!)
Not really though. While most of them don't talk about Brianna Wu and focus on the game, a lot of their criticisms on the game pretty much fall apart under scrutiny.ResonanceSD said:AndrewVE said:And of course, it gets negative reviewed bombed into oblivion.

While I believe that quite a few of the negative reviews are genuine and are specifically targeting the game; looking at the rest, you start to suspect that these are mostly GamerGaters and alt-righters who have a long-lasting axe to grind with Miss Wu.
OVERALL: Mostly Negative (37 reviews)
Wow, 37 whole reviews. Looking at the reviews themselves, you can see that ,the overwhelming majority actually talk about the failings of this game rather than how bad BW is.
I actually looked on the Steam page expecting unfettered vitriol and I thought it would be much worse, it's only "mostly negative", and I don't think anyone can really claim it's a "good" game. Most of the complaints seem rational.Phasmal said:Y'know, it always makes me laugh when in some threads we bemoan the poor public image gamers have, and then in other threads we have people saying things like "That'll teach that woman to have opinions about gamers like two years ago!"- like we're all a bunch of fucking rabid attack dogs.
Honestly who even cares. If you wanna play her game play her game, if you don't, surely there are better things you could be doing with your time that review bombing.
Which ones specifically? It looks to me like certain people are trying search for abuse to valid their narrative here?AndrewVE said:Not really though. While most of them don't talk about Brianna Wu and focus on the game, a lot of their criticisms on the game pretty much fall apart under scrutiny.
Jim Morrison has had it in for gates since day 1.Hawki said:I blame doors. They've had it out for gates ever since they got first dibs on announcing a person's arrival to the house.omega 616 said:(I fucking hate how every controversy is "gate" these days ... gates are getting a bad rap!)
They would shit themselves with rage if they ever saw a Christmas pantomime; I haven't seen a single one where both the prince and the princess weren't both portrayed by women.Silvanus said:Let me tell ye a tale, Zhukov. I once acted on the crew of a play. In this play, the director had chosen to have the two romantic leads both be female. In this particular case and context, I rather think it worked. Of course, we had protesters turning up.Zhukov said:Don't you have to buy a game on Steam to leave a user review on that game? Would people really hate-buy her stuff just to review bomb it? I know she pissed off some truly pathetic people, but that would be quite the show of dedication.
And how did you arrive at this understanding? Because muh Metacritic has "No score yet, based on 0 critic reviews" for the PC version.maninahat said:If I understand correctly, Revolution 60 was actually liked by critics
I read the reviews for the mobile version.StatusNil said:And how did you arrive at this understanding? Because muh Metacritic has "No score yet, based on 0 critic reviews" for the PC version.maninahat said:If I understand correctly, Revolution 60 was actually liked by critics

Let's face it, not even a GJP 2.0 hack is going to further sully their name by signing off on praise for this thing. And anything less would obviously be evidence of the old "aquatic reptilianism" in the eyes of their constituency.
I wouldn't really trust reviews. Theres a lot of politics around the game.maninahat said:I read the reviews for the mobile version.StatusNil said:And how did you arrive at this understanding? Ha ha, that's a really funny review, I am glad the game made someone so happy! Here Comes Tomorrow said:I wouldn't really trust reviews. You know, unless you really believe that the game has literally no flaws and will make you re-examine your philosophy on life.
I know there are a lot of politics around the game, but that's precisely why I am more inclined to rely on professional reviews over the reviews made by randomers with chips on their shoulder. I don't think any reviewer has described it as flawless. Here Comes Tomorrow said:I wouldn't really trust reviews. I don't know, man. Both those reviews linked (the Kotaku one and the RPGFan one) were so sickeningly sycophantic that I actually vomited a little bit into the back of my mouth.maninahat said:I know there are a lot of politics around the game, but that's precisely why I am more inclined to rely on professional reviews over the reviews made by randomers with chips on their shoulder. What the fuck? He goes from "the game has no in-app purchases because RESPECT" and then immediately recommends that you buy the companion book, because...it has backstories?RPGFan said:I hope the Revolution 60 universe gets the hype and attention it deserves, because it is fertile ground for tie-ins like an animated series, a toy line, and all that other good stuff. The game has no in-app purchases out of respect for players, but Giant Spacekat does have a companion book available for purchase through the Bonus menu called The Chessboard Lethologica. This book contains art, comics, and several backstories. Purchasing The Chessboard Lethologica is completely optional, but after thumbing through it myself, I think it is definitely worth purchasing with the game.
Well the obvious answer is that the game was only worth covering in 2014 when Gamergate was young and the controversy was at it's peak.Jamash said:I find it slightly odd that it hasn't yet been reviewed by any professional reviewers (and therefore doesn't have a score on Metacritic), when over the past few years the iOS version received quite a lot of positive press coverage and reviews from some mainstream publications and even won a Game of the Year award (I even saw Dara O'Briain Tweeting about how brilliant Brianna Wu is).
If the iOS version was so brilliant and if the PC version is an improvement on that award winning GOTY, why haven't any of the outlets and reviewers that previously covered the game reviewed the triumphant release of Revolution 60 on the PC?
A complete lack of any professional reviews seems even worse than negative professional reviews, because it makes it seem like the game is so bad and so obscure that nobody wants touch it (not even to give it a negative review and increase their publication's presence on Metacritic), which is in stark contrast to all the positive coverage it had previously received.
