Well I'm English, but I have Irish, Scottish, French, Canadian and German ancestry. And they're just the ones I know about. :p

As Hobo Joe said, a lot can happen in 180 years. I wouldn't stress the genetic details too much. ;-)
Mmmmhm. English with Irish, Welsh and Indian. :p Great stuff.

I was gonna say maybe they aren't actually related (conspiracy!) and its all stories passed throughout the assassin's history and brought to life by the Animus when I remembered everything was done from genetic memory.

They may not be directly related but they are still related.

A bigger question I've never seen answered is all the problems with Lucy cutting off her finger. How didn't Vidik notice that? She spends all her time typing, I think it would come up. Seeing how he spends his time rooting around in assassins' minds, he should know exactly what that means. Furthermore, why the hell did she cut off that finger? I thought at the time that the hidden blade had probably become outdated by this time, but AC2 reveals that even in the renaissance they'd figured out how to not cut off the finger. So why the hell would they keep it as a tradition when it only alerts templars to your identity?

She didn't... Bend your ring finger inwards and look at the back of your hand :)

All things considered there are about 300 years between Assassins Creed 1 and Assassins Creed 2, perhaps one of Altair's Daughters was taken as a wife by an Italian Noble, perhaps the Assassins provided Altair's decendents with forged papers of nobility... there are many many MANY explainations.

Okay, then what's up with the ritual burning off the finger in AC2 and bro.hood? I think they just want to imply that Rahm Emanuel is an assassin, but it's the wrong finger.

IT'S A CONSPIRACY
I have nothing to contribute to this topic other than the fact that this post is hilarious and true.

Assassins Creed response to plotholes. It was a conspiracy by -blank-
It's not a plot hole.

She bends her finger back to show that she's with Desmond, just the animation's not very well done.

There's just a minor thing I've never seen ANYONE, despite whatever criticisms they throw around, mention at all about the Assassin's Creed series, and it's this:

How is a modern-day American man decended from an Italian nobleman, who is himself decended from a Middle Eastern bloke?

The Italian-to-American thing I can understand, but I'm not currently aware off any historical link between Italians and Middle Easterns that would allow a Middle Eastern bloke to have pure-blood Italian ancestors a few generations later.

There probably is an answer to this, but to me right now it seems massively unreal...
You could say that his ancestors migrated to Sicily, and since at one point in history Sicily was an Islamic emirate you could say he converted to Islam, and then when the Italians took it over and expelled the Muslims he went into the Middle East.

I don't know much about Assasin's Creed but that's the best explanation I could think of.

Said Middle Eastern bloke travelled to Cyprus sometime after gaining possession of the apple to study it. He messed around there for a while, knocked up the Templar lady, and his descendants lived around there or thereabouts from 1190-whenever, to some time after the events of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, when they shipped off elsewhere.

what i dont get, is that if they are training desmond to become an assassin (you know stealth and what not) dont they realise that being an assassin 500 years ago is going to be different from how it is now considering they small (major) changes in technology.
