Nah, if there is an afterlife, I'm pretty sure Jobs isn't spending it with the guy upstairs...
agreed.

i might just have to poke my head downstairs with a troll face on saying "u mad? it's gonna cost you alot more than an ipad down here, instead of an arm and a leg it's your whole damn being."

No matter how you feel about apple, the man pioneered the home computer, graphical user interface, and basically monopolized the MP3 Player, Music and Tablet markets. I salute you Mr. Jobs. Rest in Peace.
Wait, so now we give people respect for attempting to circumvent antitrust laws?
When did this happen?
Why was I not informed?

In this case, it wasn't an attempt at circumventing anti-trust laws; he was just such a good advertiser that he managed to corner each of those markets right at the start. He didn't actually do anything anti-competitive, he just got there first. You see the same thing currently with Steam and the digital distribution market -- it's so entrenched that the very consumers that more competition would help are digging in their heels and refusing to use the competitor's product, not because it's actually worse than Steam, but because it's coming from another company, and is therefore a different product.
steam doesn't cost an arm and a leg though...

and they don't update it every single 6 months and make you shell out even more for it.

Damn you for being reasonable and constructing a logical argument. DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!

Ehm.

On the other hand, Steam is a piece of crap, but the other options are WORSE. I'd use Origin in a second if that shit actually had ONE advantage over steam (and no, carrying EA titles hasn't been an advantage for years now:). Same with the rest.

Though I can honestly say I don't even use steam that much. I crack all my games immediately after purchasing them. Why? Because I can, and because they generally run better after I do.

R.I.P. to one of the most influential people of our generation. And a big fuck you to all the disrespectful pieces of shit who use the death of a person to force their opinions onto others or make jokes about it. You fuckwits are as bad as the Westboro Baptist Church.

Actually, after seeing the sales figures for iPhone 4, I'm betting that Jobs has a cushy managerial position down there. No way that many people are THAT retarded.

WTH? Really? That's...incredible.

But he's so young. It's like...damn...like MJ dying in 2009, except for computers.
Never saw that coming.
So, an egomaniacal child molester and an egomaniacal tyrant...

Good company, that.
Ok, I get you had a bad day or whatever. Was that really necessary though? I just made a statement of surprise that he is truly dead. I didn't believe the OP at first until I looked at a few news sites.

I thought he would live a bit longer. He wasn't in the best of health, but like when MJ died, I'm shocked to hear of his passing. It's going to be odd not hearing his name in the news constantly for something Apple did anymore.

It's like something happening to Gabe Newell. I'd be shocked as all hell for that too.

Neither do any of the other DD platforms; I know what you were getting at, but apples to apples, please. My point was about pioneers cornering markets, not about Apple's (highly successful) attempts at overcharging technologically under-educated rubes.

Fair enough. Have you tried Impulse or Direct 2 Drive, though? I haven't tried D2D, but I was quite happy with the two games I registered through Impulse. I don't know if it's changed since Gamestop bought it, but it used to be essentially DRM free, although Stardock was never able to get games as quickly as Valve, nor were they able to negotiate for quite as good sale prices. For all the dressing up of the DRM it does, Steamworks is still one of the most oppressive forms of it on the market.

A human being died.

That is always tragic.
Not REALLY, is it?

Jobs aside, surely we can agree that some deaths are either necessary or funny as hell?
No,not really.
Yeah, Kinda really. After all humor is subjective amirite? So by that logic somewhere someone will find death funny.
In short.
DON'T APPLY YOUR LOGIC TO EVERYONE ELSES
"DON'T APPLY YOUR LOGIC TO EVERYONE ELSES"

Exactly.

Actually, my day just keeps getting better and better. It wasn't exactly necessary, but it was FUN.

I honestly thought(feared) that he'd live forever, what with being the agent of devil on Earth and all, but hey, sometimes you just get lucky.

Actually, Gabe dropping from a heart attack would most definitely NOT shock me. Sorta like the guy, but let's be realistic here, the man is a myocardial infarction waiting to happen.

Here's a better example, for future reference; Les Paul died shortly after (like, in the same week as) Michael Jackson. He was an incredibly skilled Jazz guitarist, the inventor of the solid body electric guitar, the namesake of the Gibson Les Paul, and, most importantly, the inventor of multi-tracked recording. That's right, Michael Jackson's music (and that of pretty much every other major musician since at least Jimi Hendrix), would not have been possible without the contributions of Les Paul. I was so upset that Michael Jackson was all over the news for several weeks, while Les Paul barely even got a mention.

I found out about a half hr ago. Not too big a deal to me but I know several iSlaves who will be devastated.

Competition is important. I don't see there being much for m$ soon.

Indeed, it is sad, despite the apple haters, he was a key player in developing the personal computer.
I respect the man, as well as Apple's pre- iThings legacy. While I hate the ridiculous amount of obsolescence by design (iPad 3 ALREADY? What did they add???) and marketing to style over function, those tactics helped make mp3 players big and made smartphones mainstream. Jobs was a marketing genius and a creative mind.

hah oh i know, fair enough, it's just too tempting sometimes to poke and prod at jobs with a stick, even if he is dead (sounds like a bad simpsons episodes..bart is out in the woods and finds a dead body and just pokes at it with nelson or something)

i get what your saying, and you are right, steam does have a vicegrip on quite a few people after making them too "comfortable" with their software, while quite a few other DD's out there are just as good if not better in some ways.

Yeah, it's pretty sad. I wasn't really a fan, but damn, the man knew how to succeed in this market.

I think for all of us, whether we liked Apple or not, we cannot argue the impact he has made to technology, and society as a whole. May his vision for a better tomorrow forever live on in Apple, the people who worked and knew him, and in everyone.

I suppose I will have to honor him by wearing a black t-shirt tucked into my jeans at school tomorrow. That was kind of his thing. He will be missed.
