I think it is more of a jab about Beiber than anything man. I mean she is an alien. Kind of a who else could be attracted to him but a blue alien.

Before I back away slowly from this topic I'd like to point out the difference...

A young underage girl is very likely NOT that sexually active. Even if she was, some old guy who could easily pass as her dad would more often than not be extremely creepy to her. Also, we usually feel the need to protect young girls from this sort of thing because we know how disgusting men can be.

So now let's look at a young adolescent male. Chances are that the moment he hit puberty, he is VERY sexually active (I wont go into detail but let's just say the tissue industry has a lot to be thankfull for). You really think a young hormonal boy will be creeped out by someone lusting after them (assuming she's not grossly overweight or a granny)? As I said before, young girls will likely NOT do what these guys will be imagining until later so getting together with a lonely milf is probably the only way he'll see some early action.

Okay, I've said my piece. I'll just be leaving now.

Double standards! In this society! WHAT?!?!?!

Oh right yeah, we have a lot of those...

Although you are totally over-reacting on this one. As would the general public if this was the other way around.

Also, it's an alien, clearly a gag, maybe she wanted to eat him? I don't know.

This is dumb. Even if there is a double standard when it comes to the fantasy aspect of it (which I disagree with), there is still an equality in the actualy PRACTICE of it.
That is to say, if a middle-aged woman is with a reaaaally young guy, say 20, people will look on it negatively. HUH. I'd actually argue that this is seen even more negatively than an older man and a younger woman, because cultural values from our parents generation and the ones before that actually said it was okay.

In terms of the fantasy, no one actually cares until you really voice these thoughts, and then most of the time you'd prolly have the other moms looking at you like you're some kinda freak for breaking the fight club rule.

Considering the terrifying celebrations that came from the Olson Twins and Britney Spears turning eighteen, I'm creeped out, but not surprised.

Why can't women have fantasies of 18 year old boys? They are of concenting age here in the states. Men do the same thing.
Except that men are considered creepy for doing it, despite it being legal.
So are women. Have you never heard of cougars?
Yeah, cause the term 'cougar' has the same negative connotations as the label given to males (you know the one it begins with p), when the gender roles are reversed....

17 is the legal age of concent in Missouri. Plus Beiber get MILF trim all the time according to the paternity suits being filed against him.
He has had ONE count them ONE paternity suit filed against him his first line of defence is he has witnesses to his whereabouts and the lack of intercourse happening and the second is that he took the DNA test and the mother WONT let it be tested against the child. A child who by the way she has already accused two other men of fathering.
Nevermind that since this happened in a time called "the past" when Beiber was under the age of consent she has been claiming to have committed statutory rape because in the current political climate in the US she would stand to profit LEGALLY from committing said crime. In fact many states still allow the "sexual initiation" defence in these cases when boys are the victims HOWEVER "it was rape" is not enough to get you out of paying child support.

This sounds to like like a Western World Problem. You want to ogle young girls without catching flak, move to Japan.
You do realize he is making is that middle aged adults SHOULD NOT be openly fantasizing about minors right? That in a society that celebrates "equality" we should not be so willing to celebrate or at the very least turn a blind eye to behaviours like this based on sex.

Yes, but they were not not being portrayed in national Xmas ad campaigns for large retailers. False equivalence. Some thing that happened in some corner of the internet vs out in the open on national TV.

Now this, I understand and agree with what you are saying, society does have certain expectations of each gender. Which is why these big things for womens rights, and getting paid the same as men annoys me, (not that I disagree with them being equal) but when they can campaign about equality, yet still expect men to act chivalrous, and pay for things, and allow ourselves to be hit without retaliation. Again, I don't condone violence to women, but when they can campaign all the time about how both genders should be equal, then throw up double standards everywhere, it irks me.

It's a similar situation with racism in the UK. (not sure how it is elsewhere) If a white man was to say that white people are better, he would be instantly shot down for racism. If a black man was to claim he was part of the superior race, then he would be praised for having racial pride.

We are part of a hypocritical country and it cannot be helped, minorities, and those seen as having less power, will fight valiantly for equality, yet still feel as though they can be protected by certain double standards.

Anyway, rant over..
well that`s our lovely world... it`s funny that in most countries the least juridically protected person is a white male... and that really sucks... it`s the white man that made these laws in order to prevent himself from harming other races, and females, thus making him now the weakest. not saying that they`re a bad thing, but it puts him/us in a really uncomfortable situation, because almost anything we say/do can be turned against us...

no racism intended...

Not quite. The point I was making was if, it is aright for one sex then it should be alight for the other, or not alight for both. I make no judgement on whether middle aged people think about minors (for arguement above 16) is OK or not. That is a whole other discussion for another time. I am was merely trying to highlight another example of the disparity....

Men who are attracted to 18 year old girls are called perverts or dity old men. That has the same negative connotation as a women being called a cougar. Hell I think couger is worse.
Yeah, cougar is a terrible term, that's why they had a whole TV show called 'Cougar Town' about it. Haven't seen many shows called 'dirty old man (or similar term) town'. And we are talking about a 17 year old not an 18 year old.

Edit: Yes, age of consent in UK is 16, but remember like most other places depictions, even drawn of under 18's being sexual is punishable by at least inclusion on a register. So I think openly lusting after an under 18 year old is not exactly 100% OK. Certainly if you were male this would cause you problems in the current climate.
That refers only to pornography. Pornography, even drawn, featuring particpants under the age of 18 is not okay.

Anything else? Fine and dandy.

Now, there is still a double standard to be addressed here, because if this advert was made in reverse then yes, there would be outcry, but that exists in a lot worse places than an Argos ad. If you're going to get worked up over the double standards between men and women, set your sights higher.

My my someone didn't get the joke. Also someone quite clearly doesn't realize that North America is pretty much the only place on the planet left where the age of consent is as high as it is.

Get a sense of humour.

^^That, and I was obviously making a joke about how only in the Western World would a remark like, "Mmmm Beiber" coming from a middle aged person would shock people.

I'm more concerned about what the fuck is in that box.
I'm more bothered about the misappropriation of a classic Smiths song and it's lacklustre covering by some watery tart? (©1974 monty python holdings inc). The box probably has, like, a tamagochi or buzz lightyear or whatever this year's cool toy is.
It's a dog's head. You know it is.
