Resident Evil 4. Now before everyone has a fit, let me explain. Im a resident evil fan-boy. I know the story and dialogue are atrocious, and I know that the inventory system was on the ridiculous side. I know that the strange camera angles weren't very helpful, and that every game basically ended the same. But I loved it that way. It was the first game I'd ever played, and will always have a special place in my heart. With Resident Evil 1, 2, 3, and Code Veronica following the same basic (and thoroughly entertaining) format, I was hoping 4 would do the same. I was let down. If anything, the story was even worse! The addition of quick-time-events angered me, and the fact that I wasn't even really killing zombies made me not like the game. Bringing back Wesker... AGAIN, seemed like a terrible plot choice. But the game was FUN. It was GOOD, or at least close enough despite all of it's failures (like that fucking *****, Ashley Graham). I loved the weapon variation in the game, but I hated the fact that you had to buy most of them (and they tried to fix that in RE5, but failed ten times as hard). I was disappointed, yes, but I wasn't hateful of the game from a gamer's standpoint.

Empire: Total War, yes I'm still complaining about it.
Same here

But nothing compares with Spore

I will not terrify you with descriptions of how I feel about this piece of long-procrastinated piece of poo, but I will simply say that if I ever, EVER meet Mr. Wright, I WILL punch him.

Just once, mind you. And this isn't a "I will merc that fucker" bullcrap statement angry people make, I solemly swear I will biff him on the nose with a vengence

Everyone has to have been let down by a game in their life time. Maybe once, maybe twice.

Mine personally, was Fable 2. After playing Fable 1 and saying "wow, this is a pretty good RPG" I started thinking about what they could improve on. Then when trailers and gameplay footage's starting to come out, I was like "HELL YES!" it looked like everything I hoped for. I bought it the first day it came out, and started playing it right when I got home. I very soon discovered that It was the same as Fable 1, only sucked more. The story only took me 6 hrs to beat, and since all the money you would need to get the better weapons barely come from the quests anymore, and the Arena gives you half as much money as the first one, I had to rely on the jobs, which became boring, really fast, And there is no variety in the Job mini games, it is all the same controls. wait for the arrow to hit the green, press A, wait for the arrow to hit the green, hit A. But the biggest let down of them all, was I killed everyone in the game, just by using my lvl 5 lightning.

Any way, my Paragraph got waaay to long, so now, what was the biggest video game let down, of your life.

I don't wanna hear "search bar" because my computer froze the last time I used it
I was ninja'd by the OP I never played Fable 1 because I had a PS2 and not an X-box but I always thought it looked really good so when I got Fable II I was expecting an enhanced version of the first one, boy was I wrong, pretty much everything you pointed out is also a problem I had with it. Didn't they admit that they didn't even try when making Fable II and that all the work was going into Fable III at some point?

It's a hard topic, I've been fooled many times.

Assassins Creed was a huge letdown, the constant repetition of same ol' same ol' got dull after a few hours, and the fight at the end was a big WTF.

Dead To Rights (GC) looked like a cool Max Payne wannabe game but delivered something... evil.

The whole Halo franchise past Halo 1 was disappointing.
Halo 1 gave the world a new look at FPS games, and when the sequel released I was really disappointed.
I got Halo 3 with my preowned 360 so I felt the urge to play through it too just for old times sake, but I just couldn't bare the poor execution, and I'm still amazed that it's one of the highest ranked 360 games ever.

Fallout 3 was another letdown. It's so incredibly slow and boring, and you never really get attached to anything or anyone.

Farcry 2 sucked hard too, and I LOVED the first one.

I could go on and on but I think I need to give a first-placer, so I guess I'll take a piss on the Halo franchise.

: ) It makes me happy to see I'm not the only one. At least it's not as bad as RE5 which just shits all over the old series.
Oh god, doesn't it though?!

TOO HUMAN. i walked into too human knowing nothing about it, not seeing any reviews or getting anyone's input beforehand, just borrowed it from a friend and started playing. i started getting excited while watching the opening scene, and when they started introducing the lore (FUTURISTIC NORSE GODS IN SPACE, how can you screw that up?!)... but then, the targeting mechanic. the item overload and tiny fonts in the inventory. THE UNSKIPPABLE MINUTE LONG DEATH SEQUENCE. by far the number one BIGGEST disappointment in gaming of my life.

right after having to uninstall WoW and freeze my account, that was worse. DAMN YOU ECONOMY!!!!!!!!!!!

Far Cry 2. I LOVED Far Cry. Awesome game. The second? Just... Bad. After about 4 hours of driving about trying to shoot people with quite crappy guns I turned it off and traded it in. I got no fun out of it at all.

Honestly?

Super Mario Brothers Wii.

I realized it about the third time my brother jumped on me and I got hit by a Goomba.

In that regard I'm very lucky, I thought Spore would be crap so never purchased or played it.

Oh I also want to throw Supreme Commander out there (as well as a second vote for Empire: Total War), it was a large let down considering it being a spiritual successor to TA, Supreme Commander I managed one campaign play through and was done, I still play TA, with mods of course.

My biggest disappointment wsa definitely Final Fantasy XII. Was a big final fantasy fanboy and I love the ATB/turn based systems you always got with JRPGs and the fact you were the centre of an epic story to save the world. Got even more hyped by all the the good reviews it was getting. Bought it on release day, went home and started playing. 4 hours later I switched it off. That was the last time I ever got really excited about a computer game.

Spore is a good one, also Left 4 Dead.

If it hasn't been said already, L4D was nowhere near as fun as the recent amazingly innovative Orange Box games, was horribly unbalanced, and received little to no updates.

Crysis. The developers lied through their teeth about the type of computer needed to run it, and it just seemed like everyone involved with the game was trying to take it so many different directions that nothing contributed toward the whole. Random example; you can choose to sit in the backseat of a Jeep BF2-style by pressing the F3 key. In singleplayer. You don't get teammates who can drive, so it doesn't DO anything.
