Did you guys know about Simo Hayha before the cracked article? There's bound to be better snipers somewhere in history... only they were so awesome they were never found.

Kudos to that guy, though. I have enough problems at short ranges...
There are plenty who are well known, if you do the right reading. Like Carlos Hathcock, a US Marine in Vietnam. Before Furlong and now Harrison, Gunnery Sergeant Hathcock set the record for distance kill using, get this, a scoped Browning M2 .50cal machine gun with tripod that he'd carry instead of his rifle.
Not really, he was on sentry duty and simply put his scope onto the M2 for the duration of his turn, he saw a kid on a bike with AK47s so shot the bike, when the kid brought up the AK to fire, he shot the kid. This was from a guard tower, he didnt carry an M2 around with him...

Wait, wait, wait. Why is a British guy using feet and miles? Kilometers and meters, damn it!

Oh, and gz. That's pretty impressive, once you do the pointless math and read it correctly ;d

My head was about to explode, I had to read through 3 pages on a sniper thread before "Lông Trắng du Kich" was even mentioned. Thats Vietnamese for "White feather sniper" which describes Gunny Hathcock. Ever seen the movies where one sniper shoots another through their scope? Hathcock is the only one to ever pull that off. He also advocated the .50 BMG as a sniper round, so you can thank him for the Barrett M82. Greatest sniper ever.
Is that the one that they use to kill tanks?
In WWII the Russians used 14.5mm anti-tank rifles, and Germans used a 13.2mm anti-tank round. The .50 BMG fired by the Barrett would convert to about 13mm, and can pierce almost an inch of steel armor with normal ammunition (almost 3 inches with SLAP rounds). Modern tank armor is too thick so the Barrett is an "anti-material" rifle, effective against anything from people to light armored vehicles.
Do we still bother with anti-tank rifles now-a-days or is it all missiles now?
No more anti-tank rifles, but there is still anti-tank bullets like those fired from the 30mm Avenger cannon on an A-10 Warthog or the M230 Chain Gun on the AH-64 Apache. But the majority of modern anti-tank weaponry is missiles and rockets, a Javelin can penetrate almost 2 feet of armor... a helluva lot more than the .50's 3 inches.

Anyway, good for him, setting a new record.
Correction, he killed a TERRORIST. They don't count as humans, in my eyes.
You were joking about that, right?

Because a terrorist is someone who comes to another country to cause terror, hence terrorist. And there have only been a dozen or so Middle Eastern terrorists.

Not to mention the fact that the whole Vietnam war was a terrorist act.

And yes. A man fighting for his country and beliefs is just as human as you or me. Regardless of how extreme he is about it.
Correction, the Taliban are fighting a Jihad. It calls for the eradication of all infidel, foreign and domestic. Soldier and Civilian. You very well can be a terrorist in your own country. Timothy Mcvey anyone? A terrorist is someone who commits acts of terror. Where they do it makes no difference. The Taliban use suicide bombers on civilians, blow up buildings to kill civilians intentionally, the list goes on. They are very much terrorists.
Regardless, that doesn't make them not human.
Of course. But would will kill me, you, and whoever said that in a heartbeat. If we were armed or not. So I'm not losing any sleep over it. The more the merrier.

Two Feet?!
Makes me wonder why one would bother armouring tanks much at all, then. Especially with that new anti-missile forcefield tech the Brits are making.

Oh, yeah. I'm not fretting over the death of anybody who kills others without remorse (that includes everyone, mind you) but it bugs me when people label humans as less than human.

So fighting non-humans is better than fighting humans? How do you figure that?

I still say the most awesome sniper was the guy in WW2 who fought off the Russians, forget his name. Used iron sights and racked up over 700 kills.
Oh yes, I think I know that story. He was a Norwegian, right? Or at least northern-european. Over 700 kills while surviving by himself in the snow, often taking out multiple snipers with only iron sights.
A friend once told me about him, awesome guy. Was he the main character in some kind of game aliens are playing with us, I sometimes ask myself.

Are you actually fucking proud of this? this is disgusting.
Are you getting enough air up there on your pedestal? It was a brilliant shot yes, but we are not celebrating the kill itself, we're celebrating the awesomeness of the shot. Just pretend the guys who died were actually targets on a range... squishy, bleedy, targets.

ZOMG Abrams rush haxxor?

I hope they buff training in the next patch to compete with spammers.
I feel like I've just walked into solid stupid.
Then my job here is done. I was aiming for "hit by a bullet made of solid stupid from 8120ft", but that'll do.

One person's terrorist is another person's freedom fighter.
