Yes, yes, and I'm sure you're making a huge impact on whatever it is that you do.

I'll just be over here, being a corporate whore, paying for the things I enjoy, instead of being a self-entitled thief.
What gives you the logical opportunity to call me a thief when im not doing anything different from what you do?

As usual, anti-pirates are being hypocritical. Nothing new under the sun...
Um, how is he being hypocritical? He said that he pays for the things he loves, while pirates download everything for free, and rob the industry.

OT: Well, in my experiences from the Religion/Politics section, people will gang up and jump on you if you aren't an atheist or socialist.

I'm just paranoid but I feel that there's about 90% of people (who post) that don't read much of a thread besides the opening post, and 10% that do. :D
I am reading your post now and quoting on it. So I must be the 10%!

To be fair, I usually read the OP a couple of comments in, then make my post. Then I look up above my post shocked about people talking about something completely off topic and now forced to go through the thread on how a debate about piracy happened with such a tame topic that had nothing to do about it.

I agree with the nonsexual/asexual suspicion. I'd never seen/heard of any specific asexual people before I came here. Unless something about the Escapist brings them in like flies, some of you escapists are confused. Or your just trying to sound hip and outside the norm. Which is what I'd say is the best unifying trait of a majority of the Escapist. Don't worry, I love you all anyway.
I really don't get all these people claiming to be asexual/nonsexual. I mean, its supposed to affect approximately one percent of the population.

I'm pretty sure that I am a genuine nonsexual asexual, but considering that there has been very little sexual pressure in my life to influence me culturally, and my doctor describes my hyperreaction to seemingly normal fluxuations of the lady hormones as, "like being menopausal and three-months pregnant at the same time," I have good reason to suspect that my "Never had any sexual feelings whatsoever" will remain a "Never will."
And I'm completely serious. I never get turned on. Not by people, not by any sort of weird fetish, and not by any of the things that are supposedly designed to help people deal with an internalized sexual repression.
Yes, 19 is young, but after 18 years, most people typically get something. I've been thorough in ruling out other possibilities before I have taken on this label.
And when I finally gave myself permission to identify as asexual, it really felt right.

The most common thing I hear when I ask someone who claims to be asexual is that they think they're asexual because they "Haven't felt anything in a long time."
This does not make you asexual. This makes you straight or gay or bi and just not aroused in a while. Unless there's something physically wrong with you, there's someone on earth who would turn you on if you've had past sexual interests.
Asexuality is as much not being all that horny as it is a sexual orientation- or more specifically, the lack thereof.

It's like magic...

OT: The words I would use to decribe the community would be cynical, atheist, and ponies. Lots of ponies.

Other than that, we are all nice folk that like top hats, monocles, and vidya games.

You forgot atheistic and cynical.

But otherwise, fucking this.
Also American hating, teenage, British or Canadian, furries? Just what I have picked up on in the short time I have been here. Oh, and English grammar loving nazis, maybe?

edit: I forgot, I have also noticed a lot of people here don't like or understand art for some reason.

Due to time spent on advice, I tend to stereotype the rest of the site as nihilistic misogynists who find stories of stupid people as told by retail workers to be the height of truth.

In reality, I'd say people who play video games sometimes is the best generalization.

"One of the most sequel-phobic, anti-mainstream, "popular is bad (Unless it's Valve)", indie-snobby sites on the internet."

This is a description I used once. This is when I was disillusioned about the whole "we're the most intelligent gaming site" thing people love to tout. Little did I know that I just scratched the surface...

I'll just add one more, and let the rest of the thread speak for me. Heavily biased. The piracy issue is the only issue this site is completely honest about and wields admin power over. Openly, anyway. This site's community (and its mods) take sides and play favorites. I'm not saying what sides are taken, if you been here long enough, you probably are familiar with one or two of them.

But despite that, I do enjoy the community here. I enjoy this site, and I enjoy the forums. There are just certain aspects that occasionally make me think "Why do I post here again?" when they get particularly out of hand.

If i was to give my opinion of the escapists users i would probably be banned. I only came here for ZP and made the mistake of making an account. I almost never post but I feel the need to post this time. I HATE EVERYONE ON THIS SITE, EVERYONE READING THIS I AM LETTING YOU KNOW I WANT TO PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE. Mind, i could say whatever i want as no one actually reads my posts.

Most of us probably hate society to some degree, have a higher than average IQ, and we're mostly gamers. Except the few people that come to Escapist because... iono, for the thrilling RP threads?

Mentally disabled people

Will I get banned for saying that here?
Not if its directed towards someone, and yes, you could get banned for that.
Also, your on a gaming website, and gamers are most dominant here.

I seem to have a rather more forgiving impression of the user base on this site then others... I find most people here to be relatively pleasant and welcoming (for the internet), if a little pretentious and smart-arsed at times.
That too.

Yeah, I read it champ, you seem to miss the point of the community, but none the less, yeah, you could be banned for threatening people, letting you know now rather then later.

Eh, I can't really think of anything right now.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go play my sophisticated RPGs on my PC while thinking about how great it is to be a tri-gendered asexual panromantic. It's a real shame how narrow-minded people who don't "get" me are, and how much better I am than them. All those girls who have "friend-zoned" me don't know what they're missing. I'm also going to survive the zombie apocalypse with complete ease, because everyone's an idiot, except me of course.

God I'm so awesome.

... I read your post. And I'm not entirely sure if I should have.

OT: Gamers is probably the only real truism that can be said about Escapees. Also generally a lot more troll free than the rest of the internet. Also the whole userbase tends to be on polar ends of a lot of issues, which makes things more exciting to read.

I've gotten the impression that the userbase is mainly made up of anti-piracy suckers of corporate co... Well you get the idea without me having to get too graphic.

And yes, it does sadden me how so many people who actually claim to like video games can be so easily duped by corporate propaganda...
You're one of those people huh.

The only one who can truly see the world for what it is and can't believe that we're all suckers who fall for 'corporate propaganda'.

You don't happen to own a Chez Guevara t-shirt by any chance do you?
Probably a closet full.

And a bookshelf full of nothing but Ayn Rand's pretentious crap.

Im far from "the only one". Where I live, theres an entire political party devoted to pro-piracy ideals, so you're not very successful in tryin to make me look like some "lone nut" here.

Also, the socialist activist you refer to was called "CHE" not "Chez". And no, I don't own any such t-shirts, having pro-piracy beliefs is in no way or form a leftist opinion.

Any more, not so educated, presumptions you'd like to toss out there while you still have the chance?
Yes, yes, and I'm sure you're making a huge impact on whatever it is that you do.

BAZING!!!!!!!!! Also, wouldn't a pro piracy stance becoming popular actually eliminate the need to create because people wouldn't be able to....live? it's like communism except somehow more bleak and depressing!

The Escapist community are the people who also comment on the interesting articles I want to comment on, and thus I must put up with them.

high five indeed.

OT: well there are quite a few athiests, as seen in polls from before, there are quite a few very vocal sexists (on both sides) and there are quite alot of pessimistic hipsters out there...

and then their are bronies. you'll be spewing out rainbow sewage from your anus for weeks after delving into a MLP thread.

also, elitism and being a smartass while saying your not being a smartass are sometimes common...

the occasional bashing for whatever reason (choice of system/nationality/religion/etc..) which usually doesn't make much sense and the person is just being extremely cynical about it.

That sounds like a pretty good explanation. I think the whole "Escapists are cynics" thing might tie into it, too, in a hypochondriac sort of way. They say, bah, sex and people of the opposite sex are all shallow and corrupt, so then they prevent themselves from feeling attraction towards anything and claim its natural. Of course, I know nothing about this (discussing things we are unqualified to discuss, another escapist trait) so I could be totally wrong.
